Unlucky for Crouch. He spoke really well after the game in the shed and seemed to finally have some real confidence that his game was good enough at AFL level.

Hopefully he will be back in a few weeks ready to go!

Crouch has got years ahead of him, so in one way it's just a temporary annoyance.

However, it really did piss me off when I heard the news, because what was obvious last week was that Crouch was starting to feel that he belonged at this level and could make an impact at this level.

Continuity and momentum are so important in a young player's development, and IMO we would have seen Crouch's game go to another level over the next 3 weeks by playing every week when full of confidence and self-belief.

While IMO that will still happen later this year, it could well take a few games to build up that momentum again.

As said previously, it's only a temporary annoyance, but nevertheless still an annoyance. :(

DAMN IT

time to bring in Lyons for sure. Swapping he and Crouch doesn't change the age or experience profile of the team, and we must reward his good form of this year. TBH I screamed for his inclusion for half of last year, he's too good for SANFL, we know he'll be a major fixture of the team in the future, let's start his education now.

Damn... looked like he had adjusted to the pace of AFL and was now ready to take the game on (like with that running goal). Very unlucky for Crouch.

ON THE OTHER HAND potentially very lucky for Lyons. It wasn't ideal for him to have a break out season last year when there were no injuries and the team was dominating. Now that a bit of fortune has come his way he needs to seize the opportunity.

I can't believe there are still people who think van Berlo is a crappy player.
Not crappy, but definitely not in our top 5 players.

He is a player that we can cover easily. We have been more upset about Crouch being injured than VB!

Let's not de-rail this thread with VB nonsense, has anyone found out about the extent of Crouch's injury yet?

Nethertheless, he is our best "run with player" and IMO he is not easily covered, far from it. He would no doubt have been given the job on one of Carlton's vast array of quality mids.

So whats a fair assessment on his absence? 2 weeks off then a week in the SANFL?

2 weeks then straight back in, or a run as the sub for a week?

i think if a player misses 2 weeks they should come straight back in. any more than that and they probably need a week in the SANFL. (except for a handful of legit stars).

more serious injuries are case by case.

That's because we all love the potential that Crouch brings to the table. Everyone loves to watch a young gun take those first steps into their AFL career, and look at home while doing it.

In terms of winning matches in 2013, however, van Berlo's injury is much more devastating than Crouch's.

Just finished a browse through the teams stats player by player to see who has dropped off since last year.

Vb tackle stats this year appalling. .. dropped off in other areas to.

The way our luck is going he most likely has torn the hamstring off the bone. He will need a bovine hamstring graft and they are out of stock until mid next year.
It wasn't on the serious side of hanstrings strains.
