Usually I would agree with this. If the club sticks to its statement that we will match the offer and keep Brad. I dont think too many people will be laughing except the Vic Media. We have already upfront explained that Brad is welcomed and that he is happy in Adelaide. Its been made clear that we have given him the chance to try for a major deal. I dont see why anyone would laugh at us unless they are complete idiots.

On the other hand if we capitulate and accept a band 2 for Brad then yes we will be the laughing stock of the AFL.

That's the way the rules work, the compo isn't decided by the AFL until after the decision is made not to match.

Trouble is that there are people here saying we should accept the compo, while others are saying we should match. either way we will get smashed.

the club has Publicly stated that if compo was pick 2 then we would let him go but that if it was less then we would keep him. whilst it’s disappointing that we didn’t get pick 2, I fail to see how the club is in any way to blame.

You'll have to excuse me here, my memory is a little hazy on this because I only briefly glossed over it online but wasn't there some talk about the two clubs doing some sort of shrewd deals involving Crouch, Dunstan & Webster ??

It went something like the Saints trading Dunstan & Webster for virtually peanuts to offset the loss of Crouch via FA ?? The theory was that the two clubs were colluding even though it was within the rules.

Have I got that somewhere near right ??

And if so, would getting those two players in exchange for a third rounder plus the compo pick in exchange for Crouch sort of make it a little easier to accept ??

I’m assuming Brad and his management have accepted the offer as it is highly incentivised, which wouldn’t have been included in the compensation calculations?

He is on record saying he wanted a fair outcome for all parties, so will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days...
