I don't think we could have got much better for JHF last year.

If he's going to be crucified for a deal it's the CCJ one.
I think you need to think a little harder. Port were desperate to land JHF. Look at the deal JHF received. We did not push hard enough. Remind me what did Port cough up for JHF? :stern look

No need I will remind you. :stern look

MEGA DEAL DETAILS

NORTH MELBOURNE
Trade out: Jason Horne-Francis, pick No.1, 2023 third-round pick (tied to Fremantle)
Trade in: Picks No.2, 3, 40, 43, 2023 future first-round pick (tied to Port Adelaide)

PORT ADELAIDE
Trade out: Picks No.8, 43, 53, 57, 2023 first-round pick, 2023 second-round pick, 2023 third-round pick
Trade in: Jason Horne-Francis, Junior Rioli, 2023 second-round pick (tied to Collingwood), 2023 future third-round pick (tied to Fremantle)

WEST COAST
Trade out: Junior Rioli, picks No.2, 40
Trade in: Picks No.8, 12, 2023 second-round pick (tied to Port Adelaide), 2023 third-round pick (tied to Port Adelaide)

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
Trade out: Picks No.3, 12, 2023 second-round pick (tied to Collingwood)
Trade in: Pick No.1, 53, 57

So in essence Port coughed up their first rounder plus a future first rounder plus some low picks in the forties / fifties for not only JHF but it also included Rioli. We should've made them pay more. :stern look

It's a bit simplistic, the deal was dead at one stage because of the AFL's restrictions on what picks can be traded. What are we going to push for? Players? None wanted to come. It was a four team trade for a reason, for us to maximise from a shit spot we needed other clubs picks flying around. Port got what they wanted but I'll take three first rounders and change for Judas and naming rights for pick 1 in a player we weren't going to draft in Cadman.

You know which player wanted to come? Hunter Clark. I would've said to Port. "Now listen up you Turkeys. I don't care how you do it but you need to work in with the Saints and somehow get Clark to the NMFC. Otherwise the deal is off." To do the best deal you need to be prepared to walk. You know it. I know it. And Nonna Francesca knows it. :stern look

Yeah Clark was a miss and personal opinion this should have been a workaround if we were dealing just with Port (who were being slimy as they were still trying to work in Rioli and Ratugolea). Imagine trying to weave a fifth club into the megatrade, especially a club who said firmly Clark wasn't going anywhere until for some reason they decided they were open to the trade on deadline day. We thought Port were playing silly buggers, the Saints were f***ing everybody about in the worst game of bluff until time was nearly up.

I've been a Brady supporter, but his hits just keep coming. Not getting Clark, I guess we could blame the Saints for that, but very few players don't get to their club of choice these days. Lazzaro, Ford and Cunnington all contracted for 2024, all got 1 year too many. Re-contracting Turner. Continued negligence in not sufficiently addressing the lack of KP and small forward depth at the draft. This is all very recent stuff, not the stuff further back like CCJ, MSD stuff-ups.

He was Luff's boss. Hard to imagine a world where he doesn't get a say.
As a boss you aren’t across every bit of data and decision, that’s why you have people under you.

But I think we are on the same wavelength anyway, bloke hasn’t set the world on fire in his time at North and it’s not like he left West Coast in fantastic shape.

He’s probably running at a solid E- at the moment with him being one **** up away from a F.

Yep. Not getting Clark done is a big red x

True Glenn luff and cam Joyce for mine are our 2 biggest staffing mistakes outside of nobles
No one knows if Rawlings had much say when it came to the Nov draft but reaching for Dawson was a big mistake.
Massimo is the exact type of player we need and now we have to put our brightest star down there to fill that hole.
CCJ and judas + pick 1 deals should of been better as well

Luff drove the CCJ deal with his ******ed points based trade system.

Completely out of his depth in a negotiation.

Tbf Saints wanted pick 3 for Clark and their first

We wanted their future 1st as well but I reckon they thought it would be an early one. I’ve heard from a few people (on both sides) they rated Wardlaw through the roof.

The other problem with that trade period is the Ratten sacking, I suspect if that never happened Clark would be at North.

Funny how he looks like he’s done a good job when the playing group bring effort and the game plan clicks.

Whilst it’s reasonable to question all aspects of the club, the critics need to be consistent.

Phillips, Powell, Ford, Bergman, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Drury, CCJ all looked like big ticks yesterday.

I have said it once, and I will say it again. Rawlings isn't to blame for what has happened.

We have very few players from the Joyce era firing on all cylinders and we're now being carried by what Rawlings brought across. It's the 2015 draft and before that which has ****ed us. This has, and will continue to be the issue until we get more talent in whether it may be mature or young.

List balance is shit
Lack of developing KPF , wingers , small forwards
