Feels like this whole draft period we've been trying to bend reality to our draft strategy, instead of the other way around. We know our weaknesses are, but we just don't know how to solve them. Parker and Darling were a tick, but we didn't consider enough what Caleb Daniel
was costing us and we should have definitely walked away.
Same goes for our F1 and pick 2. Our strategy was to trade both out, but our reading of what they would net us was way off, and we waited, waited and then took the last minute offer. Seems like we didn't do enough to get to the Suns, Hawks or Essendon's future picks, and were just hoping would come our way. Richmond had the cards and played us all the way. Again, if the deal wasn't there, we should have walked away.
It's not all Brady's fault. Clarkson especially has talked a lot in the media about our need for a developing tall and experience from other clubs. Our draft strategy was open for the world to see, and with us a rock bottom, we're an easy club to push around.
This could all work out, we have gained some talent, experience and a tall forward. But we have put a hell of a lot of pressure on our tall players picked in the mid-20s (Dawson and Whitlock), and some rapid gains on the field next year.
