I was wrong it seems. My thinking was that we had all but wrapped up the Ebert trade, and hadn't needed 28 or 33 in it, so we then went on to trade 33 for Renouf. Seems i was way off.

Also, does anyone know why on earth Gold Coast have picks 31 and 32????

Not only does it show we have no forward planning/list management planning at all

by bypassing rucks in the form of Jacobs in trade then Lycett in the draft last year

but then offering our second round draft pick for a "back up" ruck this year?

Renouf is a trier, certainly not worth any more than pick 40 or so. He does have endurance on his side, but no real game nous or kicking finesse. I guess time will tell if he can fix those things. In the meantime, this is how Rhode may look to the footballing world:

Don't know much about this bloke, but some of the descriptions of him sound a bit like a young Matthew Primus (ie. compete all day, aggresssive, shocking skills and decision maker). That one turned out ok, let's hope he has better knees.

He may not have the best foot skills going around, but he really does try his guts out. He was basically the only ruckman we had on out list at one stage who was playing games and he played out entire games with no backup ruckman.

He's a real bash and crash style player, throws his body around a lot. Pretty fair trade IMO. Im just hoping he's not a late bloomer like Cox or Madden were.

Well apparently it's a shallow draft and Renouf gives us some redundancy list-wise should we have a ruck go down. I don't think it's a bad move and the bloke is still young for a ruckman relatively speaking.

Time will tell whether anything really good goes at pick 28/33 or later but at this point I'm satisfied since we haven't sat on our hands during trade week.

Here's my problem with this deal. We've either made our best 22 stupidly top heavy (Lobbe, Renouf, Westhoff, Butcher and Schulz, plus possibly Brett Ebert, all as offensive KPP players) or we've traded an early second rounder for a 23 year old who we don't think is in our best 22.

The only thing that makes me feel somewhat better is that he's apparently a good contested mark, which will come in handy with our stupid 'kick to pack of 10 on the wing' strategy to get the ball out of defence.

Gopower needs to remember maybe we couldn't prOmise what he wanted, which is first choice ruck!!!!

If so, that's just as bad. Jacobs was streets ahead of both Brogan and Lobbe this year.
