News Brent Renouf traded to Port Adelaide

Got to say congratulations to you Port.

Renouf is a competitor, harder than a cats head, runs all day, is a handy contested mark, useful in dropping back to help out in defence and on a rare occasion can be handy in front of goal as well.

He's a classic ruckman, ie handballs off to the smaller player running past behind him whenever he takes a mark. He's not a brilliant tap ruckman, but is still young and has plenty of time to learn and with his endurance we will get to contest after contest after contest.

He is durable, rucking practically the entire of 2010 solo, and has no history of injury, only missing this year because because J-Pod jumped knee first into him front on and ruptured his spleen. And even then he was looking to get back ASAP, so you won't have to worry about him missing too many games.

Sad to see him go but with Bailey, Hale, Roughead, and two developing rucks in Lowden and Grimley his opportunities at Hawthorn were becoming limited. So it's best for both teams.

Its hard to understand why players are allowed to do this sometimes.

Cheers mate, I'm certainly hoping the guy turns out well for us.

I like Renouf because he is a tireless competitor

Sam Jacobs wanted a bigger pay packet than what we offered, so he chose the Karparkistanis.

HOORAY!! It's about time people on this board who keep whinging about why Jacobs isn't at Port read and re-read the bit in bold!

For the money he's getting at the cows, we should all be glad he's there. It may well have made the re-signings we made this year much harder to achieve.

...and we needed to put up a better pick than 33.

Any idea how we were going to do that.

That part wouldn't have been hard, our Krakouer compo pick might've done the job - then Carlton could've got the pick #35 and a pre-listed state league player deal we got from GC.

No, it wouldn't have. The hard bit was agreeing to pay Jacobs what he was demanding. I suppose it's easier, though, to keep ignoring that fact in order to go on about all the pretend reasons we don't have Jacobs.

Jacobs demanding too much cash is far too boring a story.

Totally agree, and I'm not in the boat of `gee we should've got Jacobs'. But as far as problems for the deal, `what we could trade' was the smallest one.

I wouldn't be too surprised. I'd prefer to see Lobbe continue his improvement though, and become our best himself.

Or Bass to come back Lazarus style.

I think it will be a healthy competition. Renouf will probably be number one ruck more because Lobbe is a better forward IMO.

Lobbe's three greatest assets at the moment are his huge tank, contested footy at ground level and his winning smile.

Not really conducive to key forward play.

I still maintain that as his ruckwork improves he'll be a sexy Dean Cox/Ben Hudson hybrid. Able to run all day but prepared to get his knees dirty in a scrap when needs be.

"New recruit Brent Renouf says he is not aiming to push Matthew Lobbe, pictured, out of the team"

And there is a pic of Renouf.

Also, in that video is it just me or does Renouf appear to be in possession of the lowest IQ in the AFL.
