Brian Lake must learn a lesson

The 'he was warned' argument doesn't hold any water.

So the umpires can get out there at the first bounce and say 'OK guys, if anyone goes within 10mtrs of Ablett, it's a free kick - you've been warned', and then it's a rule?

Can't just make stuff up. If someone breaks a rule, it's a free - no warning, nothing. If they don't break it, it's not a free. Pretty simple.

I think paying a free against Lake for exactly the same thing in the second quarter constitutes a warning. This free was reversed when Eddy bumped Callan at almost the same time. But reading this thread and the dozen other threads, you would think the free in the third quarter was the only one of its kind given out in the history of football.

No it's not that one. Who is your worst kick?

Yes, it was on the coverage. There was a stoppage for a ball in, Lake knocked Riewoldt over and was pinged for it. Eddy immediately came in and crashed into Callan's back, and it was reversed. It happened about half-way into Q2.

Ross Lyon referred to the incident in his presser after the game.
Callan is the worst kick IMO. Okay I must be thinking of a different incident also around the middle of Q2. Ended up with Callan kicking it straight to Kosi. Will have to watch it again.

Either way, to the letter of the law or not, they haven't paid it all year and the Prelim is not the place for it. I can accept Riewoldt's last goal being paid when it was touched, because as Buckley says "That is paid a goal 100% of the time". But 99.9% of the time Lake's actions were not a free (same can be said for a number of other suspect frees/lack of).

Exactly, so y wasn't the Revolt free reversed when Kosi bumped into Lake ?

i reckon maybe you're a rugby league supporter masquerading as an aussie rules supporter. let me explain:

aussie rules is the game that has sublime skill as the primary drawcard, with occasional exhilarating exhibitions of violence as fun icing on the cake which have unavoidable consequences. the stars of the game - the most skilful players like ablett or riewoldt - get frees to encourage skill.

rugby league, on the other hand, is your game. the primary drawcard there is blokes hitting each other. it's all sanctioned by the rules and the governing body. every few games someone does something skilful, and the opposition usually responds to that by belting them next time they get the chance.

do you see the difference?

now piss off to your game and leave ours to evolve naturally into an exhibition of skill.
Now,let your posts evolve naturally to the point where you can hit the shift or caps lock keys. You have tried to sound clever, but gee, what a tosser.

Anyone who calls Brian Lake a dirty player, a sniper etc really should give up watching the game and try a non-contact sport. That's a disgraceful slur on a great player who has had a stellar season.

Lake was silly. He should have been more alert to the situation he was facing.

But, Roo took a dive. He fell over like a pansy. A man of his size should not fall over so easily. It is embarrassing. We like to take the piss out of soccer and claim that our sport is tough and uncompromising, yet we have to stomach this crap.*

If we continue to reward this, it will keep happening.

*I am aware that Brad Johnson dives. When he does, it sickens me. If you cannot put your club bias aside and admit that what happened before the openning bounce of the third quarter on friday night was embarrassing and not in the spirit of the game, then you are an idiot.

Ok, it seems to me that most non Stkilda supporters agree that the free kick was soft, and I agree too. But this thread is about, was Lake stupid. Imo Lake lost the game for the Dogs, like it or not he did what he did and got pinged. Yes Reiwoldt took a dive, yes it was a soft free, but the cold hard facts is, in the rules of this game you can not bump or shepherd a player more than 5 metres off the ball. So why would Lake give the umpires the chance to give the free kick in the first place, because he is stupid.

You don't notice the irony of your post? Riewoldt regularly manages to stay on his feet in a pack marking contest involving half a dozen 100 kg brutes bashing into each other. FFS, take the free kick and the result and move on - don't you have a GF to look forward to? Riewoldt made the absolute most of the contact (as he should have) to benefit his team - stop making out like he was knocked over by a Mack truck going 120 kms on the Hume Hwy.

You won't hear me defending that will you? My original post clearly states I hate it when one of my favourite players takes a dive, it sickens me.

And I thought I was pointing out the irony?
