It was fantastic, the 60s and 80s weren't too bad either.i always forget how hard the builder and cowboy go... good lord to be alive in the 70s
Maroochydore appear to be supplying most of our AFLW academy draftees, along with a couple of the boys, Carter Michael last year. The biggest city in our academy zone that isn't Brisbane is the Sunshine Coast, which has given us players like Eric Hipwood and Jack Payne. I think we should be planning for ten years' time by proposing a facility upgrade to one of the ovals on the Sunshine Coast, so that we have somewhere to play matches while both the Gabba and Springfield are out of action. We could pitch it to the government as a legacy investment in facilities for one of the local clubs, maybe even agree to play one game year there for a few years leading up to the Olympics. It's already a good nursery for talent, playing games there should make it better still.
I notice that for the masterplanned development of Aura just west of Caloundra, they have a proposed sports stadium included in their plan, which could easily be an Australian Rules and cricket oval. We could partner with the Caloundra Panthers to build this oval, which might help them get into the QAFL. Or we could push to upgrade Maroochydore's home ground also, which is a bit more central to the whole coast.

Hard to imagine the players will want to drive 5 days a week out to Springfield and do all that preseason running in the Ipswich summer heat. Maybe weights and swimming at the new complex and pre season (summer) running at Yeronga when complex completed.Things starting to move along at a reasonable pace now, lots of machinery on site and plenty happening >

I can't see that happening Ralphy, we wouldn't put all that lobbying and time into the Reserve and then not use it as much as possible, I live a 5 minute stroll from Yeronga but sadly for me it's days as a Lions training base are numbered.Hard to imagine the players will want to drive 5 days a week out to Springfield and do all that preseason running in the Ipswich summer heat. Yes 'Jason mp' your very likely correct, they will certainly use it. Just reckon the players wont be over enthused driving out there five days a week. With the AFLW schedule occurring mostly over the summer, you never know 'Jason mp' the Lions men still might have the occasional preseason running sessions near you at YerongaI can't see that happening Ralphy, we wouldn't put all that lobbying and time into the Reserve and then not use it as much as possible, I live a 5 minute stroll from Yeronga but sadly for me it's days as a Lions training base are numbered.
Yep, driving an extra 25 minutes to training in your upmarket car is the epitome of a first world problem.I would imagine that will happen over time.......in the meantime our current players will get used to it.
50 mins both ways ..Yep, driving an extra 25 minutes to training in your upmarket car is the epitome of a first world problem.
50 mins both ways ..
As long as the SUV has a good coffee holder. I mean, there are limits.
Here's another thought- maybe new recruits might choose to live in what is and will be one of the fastest growing regions in SEQ. Just saying.
One of my personal likes re this area- where a huge new hospital will be established in the near future.
C’mon last time I saw Dan McStay having sushi at Carindale, he was driving a 10 year old (or older) suv (think it looked like an old Rav4).Yep, driving an extra 25 minutes to training in your upmarket car is the epitome of a first world problem.
Guess they’ll have the same choice every other person faces if their work place moves location. It’s far more then an extra 25min drive from Camp Hill and Bulimba Jason. Most of the players leave around these suburbs. Expect Jo of course he’s on the Northside. Even longer drive for him.
