GCS would hand over 8+22 for 5.
Huge points gap, not sure it would get approved. Would we give up a player or two?

They then pick up 6 from the Tigers for Prestia, and pay for Bowes with whatever the Hawks cough up for JOM.

They walk away with picks 4, 5, 6 and Bowes.

We walk away with pick 8 (and we know who is being selected at 1-7 so it wont be a surprise) and get a free hit at 22.

This Gibbs deal is holding everything else up, and we're missing out on some great deals as a consequence.
And if Brisbane bids on Bowes at pick 3?

The way I see it, you've just made an excellent argument for them to trade with Essendon.

There is a 330 point difference between 5 and 8. Pick 22 is 845 points if it stays there (and it wont, most likely being pushed back to 26 or so).

A 500 point differential is around = to pick 36 in value. It would pass muster as is, but we could throw WBD's 4th rounder at them (55) to make it more even.

5+55 for 8+22

They wont. They're taking SPS. The discussions have been had behind closed doors and everyone already knows who everyone is taking.

1. McLuggage (Dons)
2. McGrath (GWS)
3. SPS (Brisbane)
4. Brodie (GCS)
5. ?
6. ?
7. English (Freo)

Grabbing 5 and 6 not only gets GCS a free hit at Brodie (and picks 5 and 6), but it also cuts off a bid on Bowes before pick 9 at the earliest.

They would value it very very highly.

The highest points gap we've seen so far is still under 300, which might be the AFL's basic metric for pick for pick trades.

Gibbs deal holding nothing up for us at all...

All players mentioned by us have been rejected as they are all required and don't want to leave...

2017 first rounder from Adelaide not an option...

Bolts keen to hang onto Gibbs...

SOS bends over for nobody...

Crows want him but they don't want him THAT bad, their supporters think otherwise...

Marchbank deal the priority...

That makes sense to me because why would Gibbs be holding up other deals?

I'd just walk away from the talks with a "take it or leave it" Simple and fair for everyone, I would have thought.

Why would we be spending time talking (what begging?) to Adelaide? Nonsense.

Why would Brisbane take SPS?

Furthermore, by the time pick 8 rolls, the high end midfield talent would have been snapped up.

I dont want players, I want picks. And their future 1st should be an option, more so if he hand over our 2nd this year.

[Pick 13 and future 1st] for [Gibbs and pick 24].

Bolts keen to hang onto Gibbs...

Then Bolton is an idiot.

SEN reported that Carlton have refused to talk to Adelaide and have not spoken since the first morning of trade week.
They have told his manager if he can negotiate a fair deal then come back to them or other wise Gibbs is staying and Bolton does not want him to leave.

Wow,

So why haven't we been able to snag Marchbank then?

Exactly, up until a few days ago Gibbs was not even being considered by us as a trade. We would have been talking to GWS for months and the Gibbs news would have nothing to do with that trade, even though Adelaide supporters seem to think otherwise.

Barracked for Brissy as a kid (huge fan) and they've been into him all year. Just the kind of classy high impact player they need.

Ainsworth will still be there. Id be more than happy for him at 8, and 13 for Venables.

Excellent.

Don't care if Gibbs stays, we need all the midfield talent we can get.

sounds like sos has no interest in pick 13. gibbs for lever is the deal or bugger off. really starting to think he will stay. whipping boy will take on a whole new meaning

Crickey will it ever, I can hear the jeering now.

Friend I go to the footy with can't take to him....if he stays it will be unbearable !!

Then Bolton is an idiot.

That is a bit rich Mal. Reckon he has a fair idea of the mix required to build a side. Okay to push youth, youth, youth and be dazzled by draft picks on BigFooty but we'd be coaching our own sides if it were that easy.

Really...really...?

Adelaide can GOGF - if they want to pull a player who has 3 years to go on a contract it is up to THEM to come cap in hand with lube and all the other BF metaphors one might think of and do a deal that makes CARLTON happy.

and by Carlton I mean Bolton and SOS.

Carlton is playing this game EXACTLY the way it SHOULD be played.

Heard that also. Aside from my desperate desire to keep Gibbs, it was just encouraging in general. It says to me, We are not to be trifled with at Carlton

The only problem with what you say is the rumoured 'low balling' of Tuohy's offer - if the Club rated him highly the offer shoudl have bneen better, it isn't like Carlton is short of dollars right now.
Maybe I worded that wrongly, I just get the vibe that they'll miss him more for his influence on the kids they're bringing through.
