Traded Bryce Gibbs [traded to Adelaide] - (cont. in Part 2)

Very happy to take the Lever picks off Adelaide. Gibbs loss maybe weakens Carlton shorterm, not sure he is what Adelaide needs to take the next step, they had a dozen or more very soft players on GF day so adding another one is hardly likely to make a difference. Can see Crows supporters turning on Gibbs when he has his down games.

Gibbs isnt soft. You know that, you've watched him long enough.

We had a lot of guys play awful on GF day, but I wouldnt say we have a soft team.

You'll do well from the picks, will set you up bigtime.

Misunderstood what he said

I would think its a pretty even deal really, maybe Adelaide paid a little extra but it should be worth it in the long run, Carlton have good picks but still have to use them so no guarantees there, overall both clubs should be fairly happy.

Adelaide probably paid slightly overs

Compounded by when they got reemed by Geelong for Danger

You do realise the pick swap means its a first rounder and about a 5 or 6 pick downgrade next year.

Thats like saying you paid $20k for a car, when there was a $5k discount offer.
No, you paid $15k for the car.
can you explain how it is a 1st rounder and a pick swap considering we have given up 2 x 1st round picks + 2018 second round pick + small change for Gibbs and Carltons 2018 2nd round pick + 2018 3rd round pick

Because their 3rd is like our 2nd.
Our 1st is like their 2nd.
They're only a few places apart.

You gotta take you mind off "first rounders and second rounders and look at the numbers"

Crows get: Gibbs, approx 21 in 2018 and approx 40 in 2018
Crows lose: 10, 16, approx pick 35 and approx pick 60 (which we likely wouldnt use).

So in reality its Gibbs for 10 and two minor downgrades. (Graphic below)

I see what you mean - although the caveat is that we finish at the pointy end and Carlton finish down the bottom or around it

Thanks - but Reids pen at end of trade was even better.

Just kidding - Gibbs is quality and will be weaker without him

After we completed the other trades, the summary for Carlton is:

Out: Gibbs + 40 + '18 2nd + '18 3rd
In: Pick 10 + Pick 30 + '18 Crows 2nd + '18 Dogs 2nd + Kennedy

That is truly amazing deal for Carlton. You cannot squeeze any more from that.

Yup. Might even be able to squeeze it a bit further next year, depending on where the Crows and WBs finish, and use those future second rounders to trade back into the first round. You never know. Said all year SOS plays several moves ahead and works more off net gains than individual trades. I hate losing Gibbs tbh, but he’s done a pretty good job here.

Great graphic and makes the deal seem a lot more even than my initial thoughts.

My concern with it is that it assumes Carlton don't improve, and they are a strong change to gain a few ladders spots.

In isolation I'd say Adelaide paid overs, but if you factor in the rest of the draft period, including signifcant wins in the deals for Lever and Cameron, then it ends up a pretty succesful trade period

You've done well, but lets not forget you've gone backwards for the next two years.
I still think thats the right call though.
