Has more credits to his name than most of the players you named.

I wonder if you would've said the same thing if he was actually playing for another club rather than yours. I think your bias is blinding you from the fact that there are past and current aboriginal players that are far more superior than the mentioned player in your topic. Good player no doubt but the best? Debatable.

1. how can you possibly put him in front of players such as andrew mcleod, michael long, gavin wanganeen etc etc

2. hes an inconsistent thug

He is comparable with those flashy and inconsistent players but none of them can apparently hold a candle to the legendary Polly Farmer.

He's one of the most talented players i've seen and lays the best bumps in the AFL, however he has never been consistent throughout his career. Perhaps could have been the best ever but hasnt delivered for several reasons.
Great to see him doing well at the dees.

Hes not yet in the same league as the Krakouers, Maurice Rioli, Polly Farmer, Wanganeen, Winmar, Mcleod, Peter Matera, Michael McLean etc.

If you took all of the Krakouers and combined them into one player, you'd almost be up there with Choppy.

You've gotta love some of these poor little Dees. The've been so soft for so long that when they finally get a player who is "considered hard" they completely cream themselves. Here's a thought for you & Byron....Hard is putting your head over the ball, not standing back & then hitting the guy brave enough to do it. Yes when he actually concentrates on getting the ball rather than snipping he has been a good player but to even suggest that he's the best aboriginal ever is simply stupid........When does the ski season start again:rolleyes:

Picketts form this season has surprised me heaps, i thought he would add toughness to our side but not much more than that. He has given us another option in our midfield, and he is also playing with alot more discipline then previous years. Hopefully his form will hold up the whole season and not get suspended....BUT GEEZ i wish he would clean up someone soon!!! Josh Carr TARGET #1

Don't feed the God Damn Trolls, they're everywhere. And FFS, whoever thinks Pickett is better than Polly Farmer should be lined up by Shotgun's shotgun. Pickett is a good player, he is not a great player, comparisons between him and champions who have been major contributors to their teams like Farmer, McLeod, Wanganeen is just sheer stupidity. BTW, Byron was going to be delisted by Port, I hardly see that as the sign of the greatest Aboriginal player ever, tools.

You are on the money with any of the pickles who think Pickett>>>Polly.

For mine, the best three I have seen are Maurice Rioli, Barry Cable and of course the great Polly Farmer.

Shane Woewodin has a Brownlow. What's your point?

Foolish to suggest that Pickett is the greatest Aboriginal player ever. Foolish!

He's in the same league as all of them and is better than Wanganeen, Phil Krakouer and probably Winmar. Didn't see enough of Rioli and never saw Farmer.

Oh and while he was exceptionally good at North, I wouldn't say he actually 'lifted' the Kangas once he arrived. Was drafted in 1996 - the year we won the flag.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a more over-rated player than Michael Long. Maybe Gavin Wanganeen, but he did have one or two brilliant seasons. Would love to hear from Bomber supporters about any of Long's very good seasons

Have to agree with you re Long, HOWEVER daylight between him (and Wanganeen) and Byron. Thats before you even get to Polly, Maurice and Cable who were out and out champions regardless of "race".

Byron got by for a long time on a few good games a year.

Two clubs let him go. Says it all.

I dont know about you guys but Ive been watching this game of ours for many years and Im yet to see an aboriginal player of the quality of Maurice Rioli. You dont earn the name Black Magic for nothing. He was almost impossible to tackle and would spin and blind turn on a threepenny bit. Then he would deliver with the most sublime footskills. He was a true pleasure to watch.
