Roast C4[2]Yo`DooR's - Wall of Shame vs. Essendon

Fev is not to blame for us losing on Saturday night. He's won us many matches so we perhaps expect him to perform Herculean, Houdini acts every week. We can't expect this to happen for 22+ rounds if we want to move forward.
I'll just put it down as one of those bad nights. Wonder whether his heel might be affecting him a bit more than we think.
Kreuzer going down with a head injury didn't help at all, and we were smashed in the ruck with Hille single handedly beating us.
What should be blamed is our pea hearted defensive pressure when we didn't have the ball. How many times did we see the Bombers' midfield in particular sweep the ball downfield, and straight through the corridor, with run, carry and handball, and in particular once they hit the front, to me once we scored a goal they would rush it out of the midfield and score.
Their pressure was at a much more intense level than us, and the seemingly overly cocky level as well is to blame. You would have thought they would have learned in Round 13 last year about it, but no, probably not.
Fev, Judd and probably Stevens, Betts and Waite all tried hard last night, but I will not be giving a pass mark to anyone else I'm afraid.:(
My beloved team will go a long way to redemption if we can rectify yet another embarrassing record next week, and that is to ****in beat Sydney in Sydney at the SCG (you have to go back to 1993 would you believe to find the last time we beat them over there).

"Wall of Shame" for a 4 point loss. Congratulations on the over-reaction.

We lost, sh1t happens. No-one goes through undefeated. We lost to them twice last year too but beat Collingwood twice and the Bulldogs, that's football. All teams lose to sides they shouldn't. It's more about how they learn and bounce back. We don't need a "Wall of Shame" rubbish.

I've highlighted the important bit for you.

i think the important thing is that we lost the match, we were not beaten by a better side, we kicked badly, at goal and around the ground, we went down to their pathetic level and smashed in important moments by the umpires. yet we still should have won and with one bit of luck, we would have. and all this without our full back.

if we play hard around the packs this week we will beat swans easy.

btw, betts point that hit the post, actually (from my angle in the stand) hit the back of the post after it had clearly crossed the line, how is that not a goal??? could they make the padding any wider? why not have padding to the fence fro m the post, make it 4 goals to 3 every week?

and we can all hang sh1t on fev for crap kicking but he still stood up when it was really important, his 4th goal was one that imo, only 20% of league footballers would have kicked, yet he did on the worst night since 2002 for fev.

and one more thing, on a positive, welcome back hard man hoops, those 2 goals from set shots outside 50 was blast from past and is he the missing link to answer the forward questions of the last few years?

Dont get me wrong - there is no 'the sky is falling' mentality here, no such overeaction in the slightest.

This thread stemms from the frustration of losing to an inferior side with key players missing.

Fact: Jordan Russell was rubbish and his direct opponent tore us up.

Fact: Fev's goal kicking return of 4.7 was costly

Fact: We lost the game in the coaches box and at the selection table.

Some of you are acting as if there is no shame in losing

"ohh it was only 4 points"

What rubbish - We didn't lose to a Geelong, or Hawthorn or even the Bulldogs .. we lost to a rabble in Essendon.

That was a f**kin goal and that would have meant a 1point win.

ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Want to tell us all where and when those free kicks were paid?

... didnt think so

Happily do it..having watched the replay.

Majority of the free kicks he paid were in the middle of the ground.

Chris Donlon could be looked at - he was the umpire in charge during the double goal thing in the 3rd term. Wasn't McLaren in charge.

To Essendon's credit though, they executed things much better than us. We struggled to get it out of our defence after a behind in particular, with them setting up a defensive zone very well, and with our unpolished skills on Saturday night it was always going to be a struggle.
They also took the game on in particular by not allowing our mids to dictate the terms, in that being they didn't appear to be any hard, set tags in the midfield and they took us on in that regard.
Lloyd played where he should be and it was no coincidence he returned to form there, and the team was better for it. Monfries, Lovett and co were on fire once again, Hille won at the end of the night in the ruck.
Having said all that, we have tended to go missing and play terribly against one of our most hated rivals for some unknown reason (probably getting ahead of ourselves is one).:( We didn't work hard enough when we didn't have the ball and it was so frustrating when they hit the front late in the third term we weren't able to get it back.
I've not yet read that "Fab 4" article as I very rarely read the Victorian papers, but you get the feeling they're not there yet. When the game was on the line, Murphy and Gibbs didn't take the game by the scruff of the neck. That's not to say that they won't get there, players don't normally peak until at least their 4th-5th year so they should only get better.:)
It's a hiccup but I'm still confident we can make the 8, but top 2 is out of the question (premature odds for the premiership is why I've said that.)
My prediction is 13-14 wins, 5th-8th spot, and like last year when I made this quote I am confident that it will be 100% accurate and spot on once again.
As good as Carlton are going, I really don't think we are top 8 material just at this stage. Mind you though, we should be aiming for 10-11 wins and probably a finish of between 9th-11th, that would be a realistic target.
;)

We lost a game by 4 points that we should have won comfortably. We dropped off 10% as a team and this shows how much 5 or 10% drop or increase in performance as a team or player makes.

We should have been 45 or more points up at quarter time, we weren't, we kept them in it, gave them a sniff and did a few things wrong. On another night Fev might have kicked 7-3 instead of 3-7 or what ever he kicked and we would have been touted as the next big thing after a big win and Essendon would have been sitting on the chopping block.

Anything can happen in footy, in '95 we lost to 2 bottom sides and Essendon lost to the dogs in 2000. Bloody hell Collingwood beat Geelong last year!
It's what we do for the season and where we finish that counts.
