Oppo Camp Caleb Poulter (Bulldogs MSD 2023)

No shocks here, his strengths did not suit McRae's new game style at all. Poulter was a good link man with a nice kick, super outside and lacked intensity / urgency with the football. He was a genuine outlier in the new chaos style, relentless pressure, surge football we played in the 2022.

Best wishes to him.
You mean the “all duck & no dinner” game style.

Without searching back - i was happy initially with Poulter with his junior clips....

However was not that impressed last season.

Was his weapon meant to be his kicking?

Farewell young man.

I wanted him to succeed because he had all the makings of a cult hero. Just couldn't put it all together on the field and looked to be going backwards from 2021 to 2022.

I wish him all the absolute best and I hope he can make a career elsewhere.

That mullet deserves a 2nd chance!

Stay awesome young Caleb and keep believing in yourself.

Best of luck to Poulter, seems like a good human.

From a football perspective, he was probably best suited to a wing, and yet there he has J Daicos, Sidebottom, WHE, and now Carmichael and Bobby Hill ahead of him in the pecking order. No bueno.

I thought he was in trouble watching him this year. Appeared very one dimensional in his play and a very ordinary decision maker. He also didn't improve in any area from his first year.

I wish him all the best and hope he can land at another club and prove me wrong.

That game he dropped kicked the ball and turned it over is when I was finished with him.

Never been more confident of a bloke not making it.

Good luck in the future.

I’m very disappointed. Especially to see him cut after just two years when the far-less talented Cal Brown got 6-7 years. I guess it’s a sign that our list is now much stronger but regardless I hope he gets a chance elsewhere and eventually moves into the middle, where I think he is best suited.

Geez there are some very harsh judges in here of a 20 year old.

Poulter is a much better runner and ball gatherer than many here claim. I remember seeing at least two passages of play in the VFL this year where he gathered the ball in the last line of defence and then linked up by hand and foot another 4-5 times in single unbroken possession chains to move the ball the full length of the ground before kicking the goals at the other end.

Yes, he’s a bit laconic and yes he makes some bad decisions but I reckon Poults has all the tools if more time, coaching and support is invested in him.

I personally think he has at least as much chance of forging an AFL career as Bianco, Macrae, McInnes, Draper & Harrison. Why are so many here in a rush to kick him to the curb?

Yep, I reckon more time, more experience, further dedicated individual coaching and some maturation of that lean frame would've created a very handy AFL player.
So sad that the club could not show further patience for whatever reasons.
I shall especially miss that magnificent mullet.

Its interesting i remmeber him saying he saw himself as an inside mid, did he ever get a crack in that vein in the reserves ?
Don't think so, not that I can recall. Was always on the wing. The likes of Browns x 2, Chugg, Draper, Harrison, Macrae, Reef had more centre bounce attendances than poulter

Played once this year v dogs. But don't think he was much of an emegency eeither for any games after that. Was then overtaken by Bianco for the next in line on the wing.
Needs to work on his game, but hopefully gets another shot and I do think he is more of a mid than a wingman, as his disposal he seems to panic.

He seemed to have decent endurance and find the ball , its a shame we really didnt try him in there at vfl. All the best to him , seems like a decent lad

No surprise with this delisting.

Just didn't play with enough aggro. And by aggro, I mean tuck the footy under the arm, slip a tackle and go for a run.

Just think he lacked confidence above all else, for whatever reason.

Anyway, this happens to most footballers, 2 or 3 years then out.

It's a tough business holding a spot on an AFL list.

Good luck to the kid with whatever the next chapter of his life brings. Will always have his last 2 years on his resume. Much better than many of us can lay claim to.

Cal Brown got longer because he showed more. Not sure why slighting another delisted player somehow equates to supporting Poulter.

Geez Cal Brown gets a rough go around here. Others went past him whilst his composure deserted him in the end but he definitely wasn’t far less talented than Poulter.

Wasn’t he talked up as a potential first round pick in his draft year?

What did he do in junior footy that made him look promising? I never saw any part of his game that seemed great or a weapon.
