Player Watch Callum Brown (Delisted 2022)

Panics regularly.
Finds himself in poor position because he puts himself there.
Poor decision making (this is what really does my head in for a 70 game player).
Executes disposal poorly.

If I’m the opposition coach, I’m hoping he has a 30 disposal game because the turnovers just come.
The chains of play he is part of just break.

Callum Beige and Tyler Taupe.
Enough.
I can’t understand what game people watch. Everything he does creates unwanted pressure or turnovers. Literally everything. He just doesn’t want the ball, and when he has it has 0 idea what to do. He’s a ruckman in a small man’s body. Anyone disagree, no dramas. Go and watch his highlights from the match.did anyone expect him to kick that goal 30m out? Of course not… He’s a great vfl player, can’t fault his work ethic, but he ain’t afl standard. People complain about our list decisions in recent times and where we are at, well Callum is an example of that. Afl is a brutal industry and tough decisions must be made regardless of your pedigree

Cal was one of the players that was in doubt due to illness and it seems from the after game interview with the coach, he wanted him to play and was sweating on doctor report.

Pies see off challenge from Suns at about 4.30 mins in.

It is absolutely relevant about the comments made by supporters about players. I don't see the point of using derogatory words that are unrelated to their playing and that address their character. Lazy use of words.

I was originally not a fan of Mayne and would often comment on his game but would refer to instances in the game where I thought his decision making was poor.

You can still be critical of a player without being demeaning.
Your right I can but I chose not to and that’s my prerogative. He’s not my kid he doesn’t deserve my undying love and unconditional support. Im a Collingwood member and a stakeholder in my eyes 5 years subpar performance and minimal improvement is enough to be shown the door in any other industry.

I think Jordy will be back in the midfield. Reef into the Jordy/Elliott role and they'll want to bring Henry back too. Even if only one of those occur, I think Callum is the most likely out.

Time will tell. This might be a “No Change” week if we’ve got a clean bill of health.

Not so sure....
They may just go with Henry to play the FF role and bypass Reef all together.

back to callum....
He is clearly in the team for the defensive workrate (as you said earlier).
Its the staple of our gameplan and based on the coaches selections recently, they are valuing this in the fwd half over other attributes.

So can Reef / Henry provide the defensive pressure that Cal does?
doubtful.

is a very underrated role because it doesn't show up well on the stats sheet.
a bigger question on his influence was how many of his defensive efforts allowed us repeat I50's or shots on goal?

Given yesterday was our lowest total km's in a game (down by nearly 18kms from cats game)....i also think the coaches are worried about us running out of gas, so want players with better tanks. Just an opinion.

Not defending Cal because he is limited as an offensive player. But just providing an opinion that possessions & stats don't mean everything to someone's contribution to the side.....
I agree with you, those second and third efforts without the ball are non-negotiable and we haven't got guys in the ressies who can be relied on yet, but I think Reef can apply the pressure that Jordy did and McCreery to play higher on the attacking half back to apply what Cal does.

I'd want to find a spot for Henry as well whilst his tail is up.

I don't disagree with you based on what I prioritise, but when two different coaching panels give him games, there's a fair chance that it's us who have our priorities wrong.

I do think it'll be his last season though.

Yup would like for that to happen as well.
My concern is Reef went completely AWOL against the bombers and we cannot carry people that, if they have a bad day, provide nothing defensively as well as offensively.

So i think the staff are going with a 'better the devil you know' with Cal.

But at some point you need to bite the bullet.....

I need to stop engaging in his discussion. It’s a list decision that I can’t comprehend and yesterday was just… But I’ve said my two cents and will try my best to avoid the topic 😃

Another poster said during the week that the Brown boys are both bottom 5 in the league for metres gained

Going sideways or backwards might of been tolerable in the late Buckley era… when mayne played down back weekly and all that mattered was switching so as to kick to ‘the fat side of the ground’

But it is completely counter productive to the new game plan…

Surely the coaching group will realise this at some point

Won’t survive list lodgement at years end. I’m sure he knows it as well. Isn’t even mildly competitive at this level. In fact he was a better player 2 or 3 years ago. He has got worse over time it seems.

How he still gets selected nearly every week is beyond me. What more proof do the coaches need to know that he is clearly not AFL standard. Just go already

I feel a bit sick badmouthing the Brown boys, but Callum isn’t up to it. Tyler has some attributes which make me think he could get there, but he should spend a couple of months playing as a centre square mid in the VFL and see if he can hit 30 possessions a week before coming back into the AFL.

I actually worry that Arlo Draper is another Tyler Brown. He has good size, a nice sidestep, decent kick… but just doesn’t get near if often enough.

His skill level by hand and foot is just deplorable' he couldn't even hit a handball target last night
Currently mentally shot, he knows he's not up to AFL standard and as such has lost all confidence at this level.
Can't knock his fitness or effort, but time is up. Delist sadly

Callum ain't it. He just ain't.

It hurts my heart to say it, but it is what it is. His spot needs to go to someone else.

I like to think I can see the brighter side for all our players, but for Cal I think the time has come to put a line through his name for senior selection. The thing is he'll go back to VFL and get 30s and be in our best three each week, and with so little depth he'll always be thereabouts for senior selection.

Until the time the losses build a bit more and we go complete youth, I think Cal will still be considered. I'd much rather see Harrison or Murley get a go now though
