I doubt we'll ever see normal again. It's an extra week of footy and that's pretty good.

At least one team has a bye every week and they can't keep 23 games as it doesn't add up. I think they may add in another gather round in WA if they can pull it off logistically- 22 games - 10 H&A + 2 gather - spread out over 25 weeks.

Worked well for over a hundred years, why wouldn't we change round 1 so its actually round 2 to really confuse everyone for no reason at all

WA would be better though as it'd help shut them up about travel. Oiling the squeaky wheel is a bit of an AFL thing I think.

That would be even more confusing for the morons who get confused by the concept of Opening Round not having a number - after the opening round teams have their bye, every round number would be one ahead of the game count, ie in round 8, every team would be playing their 7th game.

I may have missed something here or I'm not quite getting your point.
As it stands this is what happens anyway. In round 24 every team is playing their 23rd match.
The round number is already ahead of the game count with the current system.

And it's out for the 8 Opening Round teams before they have their first bye. But frankly who cares. It's an extra week of Friday night footy and I think it advantages the Pies to be taking part in it, so bring it on - Round 0 as a numbering system is stupid but who cares.

I'm with you.
I wish the football season ran for 50 weeks.
I don't care what they call it or how they number it. It's extra football and that makes me happy.
