I don't think Neita would one of those Captains that would stand down at the end of the year so he could increase the chances of him playing longer. He values it very highly.

Melb Captaincy 2008

Ok guys and girls,

It no secret that Neitas not getting any younger and I have heard word that our captain may change as early as this year.

I think it will be Cameron Bruce, he's a ball magnet and works hard, sometimes his disposal is scrappy but he'd only have it for 2-3 years until Brocky comes thru.

Other possiblities are:
Green - very skilled but a little too soft to be a captain.
Brock - poor form and injury riddled in 2007
White - he'd make a great captain but i think Bruce is just infront of him.
Robo - not another forward as a captain.

Personally i'd give Neita till he retires, hopefully Brocky comes on very well by then.

So i'd like to hear your thoughts?

Green too soft? Bruce is hardly shinboner of the millenium you know. I think if Neitz doesn't want it bite the bullet and give it to Brock. Give him the years to settle into the role then by the time hes 24-25 he'll be reaching his peak and will have had the captaincy long enough to properly deal with it.

None of this 5 captains too. Load of shit.

Re: Melb Captaincy 2008

I think J Mac would only be the only person likely to take over from Neitz untill Brock and Jonesy were ready. He's a solid player wihtouth being flashy and has the respect of the playing group. He is old but has a 2 o3 good years left in him just enough time to groom say a brock mclean

J Mac is a good one i haven't really considered... 2nd in competition in tackles... Good call....

I think our next captain will only be doing it for a couple of years.

Re: Melb Captaincy 2008

Give it to Junior!

He has now won two consecutive B&F's, plus AA last season, and is one of our most dedicated, courageous and respected players. It can be either a one or two year stint, until someone else (McLean) emerges.

Next Melb Skipper??

I am pretty sure Neita will get the gig once agian and rightly so. But who will take over from him???
You would think they would have to be VC then this year.
I know most people will say Brock McClean but I am a little unsure about that, depending on 08 he needs to have a consistant year!

A couple of names I would like to throw round:
McClean - Has the leadership qualities, needs to have a big year in 08.
Rivers - Young, can do the inspirantional things back into packs, big marks, starting to show signs of leadership.
Bell - Prob not but, does all the team things 1% and puts body on the line, may bring the best out of him.
Green - Starting to be a real leader, and is toughening up!!
Bruce - Prob bit to old by and a little quite.
Jones - See Bell.

Any thoughts??

brock at the moment is head and shoulder above anyone we have in a leadership capacity who is young.
But u make a very good point about bell. He to me has improved year after year and does the 1%ers that all leaders need too. I really do like him as a future leader but u would have to say brock at the moment.
Green and Bruce i do want leading us anywere unless its to the toy shop to buy a skipping rope or leading us doing the ymca!!!

This year i would do this

Capt: Neitz
V-Capt: Junior Mac, deserves his chance to be a leader even though he is old. If neita goes down with injuries again i would let junior lead us through those games for this year
Dvc: Brock and belly groom them both for next year and see what transpires, but i really like brock as our club captain in 09
