"carey was a champion footballer", beloved this, beloved that......... - listen, carey's made many crap decisions, not just one, & who's throwing stones? many really do know that he's had this coming for YEARS.
Are you not throwing stones? Do you know the man personally? I've met him and was completely surprised at how genuinely lovely he was. He was shy and humble... both traits of which I saw in that interview.
Have you made the mistakes he has in his life? Have you owned up publicly like this, like he has? Have you experienced the ultimate highs followed by the deepest lows like he has? If you haven't, and you are passing judgement, then you are throwing stones. Nobody deserves to be ashamed of going to the grocery store to buy food. Nobody deserves to have all their dirty laundry aired so publicly. People make crap decisions every single day and they have to live with those consequences. Luckily for them they can do so without every single movement they make coming under a microscope. Wayne now has to live with the consequences of his actions under intense public scrutiny. This interview hopefully will relieve some of that pressure as people begin to understand that he is human, he has made mistakes, and he is beginning to take responsibility for those mistakes.
Just too many instances for them all to have been blown out of proportion or not that serious, once or twice (or even 3 times) sure, but Carey had a reason or a denial or an extenuating circumstance for just about every incident.
Not buying it.

How very naive of you to not think a story as big as Wayne Carey ____ing up isn't going to be blown completely out of proportion. Look at what happened in the Ben Cousins arrest fiasco. You only have to look at that and the resulting withdrawal of all charges to see how things can quickly be overstated when a big name is involved. The bigger the name, the quicker the water gets muddied by people who know people who know someone who was related to somebody that saw it happen.
Carey did not deny anything, rather he clarified the "facts". Unless you were there you cannot possibly say his clarifications were lies.

Can't expect him to do a 360 degree turn psychologically.
As people of said, there is a lot he won't accept but heck, it's a shitload more than he has in the past.
He is taking small postive steps in the right direction though. Recovery doesn't happen overnight.

Why would he look comfortable? Carey basically admitted to the entire nation what most had already figured out - that he is an A grade tool.

How very niave of you to think that there are no bits of truth in any of the incidents reported. You're entitled to your opinion but mine is simply that there have been way too many incidents for them all to be explained in some small way as he did last night.
And don't kid yourself - while 'clarifiying facts' as you put it, Carey denied plenty.

- He didn't glass his girlfriend he just threw wine in her face and accidently hit her with the glass.
- He didn't know who Jason Moran was or what he did when acting as a character witness - he was just being a good neighbor.
- He didn't attack the cops just tried to keep them out of his house. The other time he was tired/drunk and did not know what he was doing.
Anything he did not have a scripted excuse for he would deny (breast grabbing at flemington, new york hotel incident, new idea payment) or claim he was too drunk to remember.
As a side note - notice how he constantly said he has not received payment for the new idea story? Kept using that term over and over. I bet someone else recieved payment - probably his girlfriend.
It was obvious his media/spin (and probably legal) team has carefully coached him with all his answers.
He used the interview as a step to right his current public image problem. It was very calculated.
I don't believe the interview was a step to self improvement. Carey does not believe he has done anything wrong except drinking & occasional coke use.
He has an excuse for everything - it's not his fault.

Sorry, but what actually does Cousins have to answer for?
- Did he grab and assault any girls in the street?
- Did he shag his best mates wife at his other best mates house?
- Did he belt up his girlfriend?
- Did he glass anyone, including his girlfriend?
- Did he resist arrest in 2 countries?
- Did he allegedly assault Police in 2 countries?
- Did he do anything at all that directly inflicted damage on anyone around him?

If you all new Wayne like i do maybe most of you fools wouldn't be saying half the crap you are yes he has done the wrong thing and he is trying to correct things but with all the talk thats going on in the media and from fools like most of the people in forums like this one what hope has he got.

You say you know him, and I know things have got worst since Carey departed North, but why didn't North Melbourne do more to help him early on or was it a case as Glenn Archer said last night 'we all drank heavy'
