Happy for Chugga but Pick 38 for him is absolute shite. Must have been as you suggested or Salary dump (cant see his contract being a problem though).
Nope. Purely and simply Cooper Lord and Ben Camporeale will be demanding game time as inside mids and Ashton Moir will be looking for game time in the half forward role that Matt sometimes played. The writing was on the wall so we asked him to look around.

Once he found a home we could hardly so no to trading him.

Ben Camporeale is a skinny kid. I doubt he'll get much gametime this year.
Ashton Moir takes Martin's spot. Cooper Lord will play Cerra's role (I'm hoping) but we'll have no big body midfield depth.

We were never getting 25. That was very wishful thinking. 38 better then it could have been. I doubt it gets eaten up by a bid. Have a couple of options.

1) Move up the pick on draftnight by packaging it up with our later picks to goldcoast or brisbane for points. Just go into deficit for Campos if need be.
2) Hold the pick and swap for an F2 if a bid comes in. Use it if it doesn't

We'll make sure it's advantageous for us. It won't go to waste.

Agreed.

There will be a way to use it.

You that off Cerra? Or just predicting injury? Lord isn't replacing cerra if dudes fit...

Kennedy trade is the cost of Voss's appalling treatment of him at the end of the season. He literally left his newborn son behind to travel for a final, only to be scapegoated and subbed out in the second quarter because our genius match committee started TDK on the bench

When you net it all out our trade period essentially becomes pick 3 (in) for pick 12, our 2025 first, Kennedy and Owies.

(There's second round picks swaps both years, and we added pick 63, but pretty minor stuff)

I don't know what our cap situation was this year but that all suggests it was pretty dire when you factor in we let Martin, Marchbank and Cuningham all go as well. Our depth has been gutted, but that said, the depth we had was fools gold (how useful were those 3 delisted players if they could never reliably get on the park).

Pick 3 is now arguably our most important pick ever. We have diabolically thin stocks under 23 right now, have barely had a first round pick in 5 years, and won't have one next year. Get a star and they become our Joel.Selwood, helping take one generstion of good players into real contention and setting up the next generation too. Miss, and our list starts giving off distinct 2013-14 vibes...

Will be interesting to see whether we move 38. Just having a look at the indicative draft order, I wonder whether some clubs would be interested in getting into the second round. e.g. Adelaide have nothing between 4 and 64, Collingwood nothing before 52. Could see us trying to work a trade of 38 from a future pick (maybe third round) and one of their later picks this year.

Insanity to not understand that 38 is a good result for Kennedy. He was not going to play for our seniors again. We have moved on.

Elijah and Pick 3 definately go past him on ball. Also guys like Lord and Binns and Moir and Wilson get picked before him next year on.

He did his job for us Kennedy. But his time came.

38 is a good result. I was fully expecting 45. We'll have an established plan for 38's usage.

2nd round this year (even late) is worth more than 2nd round next year. If we need to trade it out for future picks, it will be easy to find buyers. Might not be so easy to get back in.

If the Ben bid comes after this pick, then it’s a decent trade.

Might need Ben to start dropping some Diddy jokes into his interviews…

That's a strange take. Hewett and Cripps will play inside mid with Hewett as the defensive mid. Walsh and Cerra will play as attacking mids. Cooper Lord is an inside mid and wouldn't be playing Cerra's role. So if cripps or Hewett are out Lord is next cab off the rank with Ben hopefully pushing for games late in the year.

Cerra and Walsh play as attacking mids and hopefully get back to full fitness. Pick 3 is likely to be an attacking mid and every chance to impact from early on. E. Hollands plays half forward with some midfield time.

So there's 4 inside/defensive mids and 4 outside/attacking mids. Might not be the exact right terminology but there are going to be 8 looking for opportunities in there.

I loved Matty Kennedy but you have to continually regenerate your midfield. Sadly he was the man left without a chair when the music stopped.

Kennedy and Owies had to go.
Simply not in the plans for next season.
Good luck to them both 👍
If Austin’s work in landing pick 3 doesn’t tell you he’s a planner then nothing will.
Pick 38 will be put to good use …
You know who should have gone. Pittonet, Young, Fantasia. Not Kennedy and Owies.
Blatant list mismanagement and the reason why we will probably waste this era.

Pittonett - our only backup ruck
Fantastia - contracted and nobody would want him
Young - contracted and nobody did want him

Pittonet? When we have no other ready to go ruck? And Young with no key defensive depth? We can cover Owies and Kennedy so much easier, what your suggesting would be blatant list mismanagement

Pittonet is 2nd ruck who would have to be replaced, Young was asked to look elsewhere but had no takers. Fantasia is a DFA who cost us nothing and we are paying peanuts who is a 32 - 42 type list player who got more games than he should have due to injury. None have any value, take up much salary and are likely to play too many games next year barring major injuries.

We have done the right thing by Owies and Kennedy who have landed at new clubs on 3 year deals.

We are primed and ready to go. We have established top liners and Cowan, E. Hollands, O. Hollands, Wilson, Moir, Binns and Lord pushing to be regulars. We also have pick 3 and the Camporeale brothers locked and ready to go. We just need an average run with injuries and a our coaches to make some smart choices and 2025 should be a great year.
