Time to put the cue in the rack
With 2 wins needed from 2, with no ruckman, it’s time to put a pin in season 2023.
Even if we win both, we’ve never been any good at elimination finals. And our best has fallen short v lions, freo, giants, pies twice, Carlton
Best bet for me is get the blokes to surgery now, give touhy smith Menegola and anyone else a farewell game, hit preseason with no injuries, bank the wins early next year and manage the older blokes when needed.
Season 2023 never got going thanks to injuries and drop off in form and confidence.
Take an earlier draft pick, bring in a free agent and go again
I’d like to see Neale and esava share **** duties for this week and possibly Neale is big enough, 12 hit outs last game and 2 contested marks. Otherwise the ghost of Tom Morrow, 1951 premiership ruckman, is next in line.
Loch Ness Conway, according the official injury report, rolled his ankle at training, so he’s not a chance.
Frustrating year, but by dropping the next 2 games we could move up to pick 6, get another preseason into bruhn knevitt Henry Clark Conway (if he’s actually real), and have the full fit 22 ready to go round 1 2024

Gentlemen....
Can you guys give us any hope for us in recruiting Darcy Parish? Is there any inside information that he might be heading to Geelong next season? Or is he just trying to get more $$ out of Essendon and using us as leverage.
Cheers FoxDog50 🍻

How on earth has Bewsy not made the 23 last week?

Surely his lock down small work is what we need given our propensity for leaking goals at the moment?

Also thought Neale showed glimpses of talent and ability and a hearty dose of nerves in his first game in front of 70k+
With Rohan questionable and Hawkins mabe back - id keep him again this week. Thoughts?

Cheers

Thanks for the year boys.
Chris Scott can scoff at the "not as hungry this year" quote from the media, and I understand it is alot more sophisticated than that, but it was a factor as it is just human nature. The skill level and decision making over the last 6 games has been atrocious, is that a result of being to slow and therefore under pressure or precived pressure? Need a carefully orchestrated tank this week as we only have our first pick 8ish, and then pick 80. Maybe Scott and Bevo can agree to the Cats throwing the game in exchange for a Bailey Smith trade.

Thoughts on a Toby Conway debut this week given we have no other fit ruckman, he played well in the VFL and its essentially a nothing game for the cats with minimal pressure or expectations?

Hi guys thanks for the season, Kingy I can’t believe you have survived another season with Benny. I’ve thought that for most of the year the cats were playing catch up, so many players on short pre seasons or none at all, nothing seemed to click. Injuries played a part. I think that by the cats always being in finals especially the last 3 or so years where they went to the end of October 2020 then end of September both 2021 and 2022 I think the longer break will do a lot of good. What do you think the cats need to get over the off season to jump back into top 4 consideration.

Cats fans, we need to talk.

Fire in your questions, comments and criticisms by 12pm Thursday.

Hello darkness my old friend….
This season reminded me of a video I watched on the internet the other night, promised a lot but let me down
In truth I don’t think the cats ever got going. Never go the full choir together, seemed like every game we had injuries in game. Only miers atkins and Zac Guthrie have played every game this year
Tried to play too many guys away from their strengths ie kolo on smalls, Holmes inside mid, Stewart on ball. Play to peoples strengths rather than make something happen.
I still believe we can compete for top 4 next year, but we need a fully fit squad and to win early games so we can rest the older players.
I’d love to see knevitt Dempsey Conway Whyte mullin and even Brad Hardie get a run this week. I know you guys aren’t sold in Dempsey but I watch vfl every week and he’s got the skills, evasive, speed, knows where the goals are. Needs to keep throwing the iron around but will be a player.
I also note that Bailey van der hueval has been invited to afl draft combine. Again he’s 200cm, hasn’t missed a beat in cats vfl as the main key defender, 25, ready to go. Esava leaving and jack Henry’s feet as trustworthy as Christopher skaise, be silly not to take a punt.
Kolo is listed as 193cm and 100kgs.., surely he could afford to drop 5-8kg off if he’s not taking the big forwards ?

Finally, not my joke but I will repeat it
With the retirement of the 15, next the the cats will have……. (Drum roll)… close but no ceglar

Ben.... Have jumped on the board to get Matt Crouch now ( remember his 28 and his a free agent and won't cost a thing )

Kingy, I'll ask you? Do you think we should go for him?

Hey is there a chance you guys could do another show a week after trade period has finished? As it will be great to have a discussion on who came and who left?
( pretty pretty please )
Cheers FoxDog50 🍻

The last time the Cats missed the finals we played Adelaide in a home game against our number one trade target Patrick Dangerfield.

This year we play the Western Bulldogs in a home game against our number one trade target Bailey Smith.

Does this mean Smith will win the Brownlow in 2024 in the hoops, and we will be back in the top four, AND we are guaranteed a flag in 7 years?

Gentlemen

On behalf of the Big Footy Geelong Board many thanks for all the time and effort you've put in this year to bring us the weekly CAP and of course all the hi jinx and frivolity that naturally ensues.

Benny - thanks for the weekly jokes and answers
Kingy - thanks for somehow dodging the Broadcasting Standards Act and getting the jokes thru and reading all the questions - still reckon CAP after Dark series will rate like a MOFO.

Sadly the Cats got hurt too much, and left too little to too few too often to be good enough for long enough this year.

Some will have indicated they will move on, some are yet to say they will move on and some will get told to move on.

Is there any truth the to the Jhye Clark rumours of wanting out even thought it seems most unlikely to be real?

Can Shannon Neale push Rohan out in '24 and play the 3rd Tall roll and cover the ruck when Stanley (presumably) is off.

And whom on the list currently is your breakout to happen in 2024?

Cheers, thanks again and hopefully Josh James Johnathon Jeremey JARED from Kerr's Hire stumps up again and gives you the Sponsorship $$ to front up again for Season 12.. or 8 actually.

Go Catters

Hi all,

Apologies for the lack of a podcast this week.

Benny's been struggling with a back issue and has gone under the knife.

We will wrap up 2023 next Thursday.

Kingy
Send Benny our best in his recovery.

Actually you should have the bad back Kingy given the amount you carry him home LOL!!!

Hi gents
First time long time.....
With all the speculation the baily Smith is on the way how does that deal even get done seen as his contracted and the dogs will want the farm for him.

In saying that If it comes to fruition and he plays inside a midfield of Smith Guthrie danger blitz Bruhn Atkins which pushes Johnny Holmes to the wing with knevitt on the other does look very promising considering the oldies stay fit.

With the forward line still in good nick and hopefully a fully fit Henry and SDK it could be a quick bounce back

Just need a ruck can't see it being Grundy as port seems likely what other options are there it can't be Stanley one out

Love the pod gents keep up the good work looking forward too 2024

Some of Benny’s best work tonight, we can leave the surgery but we might need to find more of whatever pain killers they had him on! And a new wok to iron the shirt…
