Look at it this way.
If, as predicted, Gold Coast were going to select Lukosious and Rozee with picks 2 & 3, they probably know that Rozee will still be there by pick 6. Either him or Bailey Smith will be, at least, unless the Crows get in front of it. GC have seemingly held onto Jack Martin, easing their need for an electric small-medium forward, but their midfield is thin and they need to replace Lynch. So GC don't actually lose anything by trading out pick 3 and gaining pick 6, but probably gain a player from the Hawks and later/future selections as well.
With Wingard gone, we have a pressing need for a small-med creative forward. Rankine is far and away our dream selection, but he won't be available at #6. And by picking up Burton as well, that fills some of the Polec void.

Ken Hinkley and his band of merry men, KT and Koch have Choco'd the joint. It'll be a long recovery, one that won't even begin until all three are gone.

FFS we are going to give some Half Back Flanker a 5 year deal $500k+ probably $600k according to Barrett. He has a dodgy knee. He has had 1 very good season and is a good ordinary player.
Lycett we are paying the price for 4 years stupid list management and ruck management and glaring need. A HBFer isn't a glaring need and he isn't that good.

If we aren’t looking good mid-year then Hinkley won’t make it to round 15 and Keith Thomas and Kochie won’t last much longer.
They must have something in mind if they are willing to push Wingard and Polec out because they know the supporters won’t accept us looking like anything but a guaranteed top 4 team.
I still think we were really strong this season, so I have a little bit of hope that they have something up their sleeves (wouldn’t expect to see it until round 1) but it’s going to be a long off season as I have no idea how we improve our midfield from 2018 to 2019 right now.

koch and KT have done a good job in turning this club around, members, sponsorship, attendances, profile. It’s the football dept personnel they now need to focus on.

Polec was interviewed on "The Trade Table" tonight and he said Chad wanted to stay but this stemmed from his exit interview. Kane Cornes was a bit less than sympathetic and as exit interviews are to point out your shortcomings I would have expected Chad to be prepared to be told a few home truths. Although a good bit also lies with the person doing the interviews, no-one likes to be told nothing but negatives about themselves.
Wingard is also probably our closest replacement to Polec right now. Would've been happy for a '1 more year' with him being coached by Schofield or Monty. Very much disappoint.
Burton deserves every expectation thrown at him. He's been glorified as an up and coming superstar in Victoria, and I'm going to treat him as one.

Exit interviews are conducted by I believe three people. You would hope they are balanced but he was always going to have a target on him. Given the agitating from Jenny Williams in the past few weeks it wouldn't surprise me if the delivery wasn't so constructive.
