Honestly we ****ed up making him leave, but Cripps is right that if he was leaving next year anyway we’ve done better to get what we did than let him leave for whatever the AFL decide he is worth (probably a second rounder).

The coaches and players are who forced Wingard out, not Chris Davies and Jason Cripps.

The Hawks would have been aware of the stories about Chad's attitude towards football but that didn't deter them one little bit. They know he can't be turned around completely but also know that even a small improvement will make him even more of a star.
They turned Stuart Dew from a 1 year retiree the size of a VW Beetle into a multiple goal kicking GF winner. They turned inconsistent and injury prone Shaun Burgoyne into one of the best utilities since farken. I'll be beyond surprised if Wingard doesn't morph into something outrageous there.

I really would like to hear a full and honest account from Chad about what made him leave. There is so much gossip and innuendo from people here, some who do appear to have legit knowledge, others who I suspect just have an agenda.

If Chad genuinely wanted to stay but was being pushed out for whatever reason, how does that fit with him saying he found it tough to tell Ken he was going. If he had a poor work ethic but desperately wanted to stay, then surely he would have got his act together and shown the club he was prepared to do that rather than get traded out. Footy clubs are usually pretty forgiving places and I'm sure the other players would have taken him back into the fold if he had demonstrated a commitment to staying fit etc.

I can understand if some players were ticked off with him if he was slacking off. Say you are Travis Boak, Ebo or Ollie and you do everything you can to be as good a player as possible and the best you can be is a good to very good footballer, you could work your arse off 24/7 and you will never be able to do the things that Chad or Robbie Gray can do. Your team is losing games sometimes by just a few points and it's enough to keep you out of finals, but you have a player along side who is capable of being an absolute match winner if he gives the same level of effort and commitment as you and a lot of your team mates, but he chooses to take short cuts with training and diet/fitness, of course you are going to resent that.

I agree that the coaching and game plan didn't help, but there have been changes to the coaching staff (I know, I know, we still have Ken) one of which would have impacted a lot on Chad if he was to continue playing midfield. Both Kochie and KT spoke about the gameplan not working and having to change and the emphasis on putting the fun back into footy, something that would also suit Chad. I would have liked to see Chad playing under Schofield as his coach and whether that would have made a difference as well.

Chad, sadly, is gone from Port, but at least if we knew the truth we could decide properly who to blame. ;)

All this talk about Wingard leaving next year to free agency and not getting as good compo as a trade yields this year is interesting, did Chad actually tell them he was going to leave next year to F/A or are port just jumping the gun and got a little trigger happy on the idea that that he may leave?

If it turns out that he never planned on leaving but got upset by the club offering him around due to being scared at the idea he may leave next year ill be dam annoyed.

I see a theme involving one team

Jason Cripps did not go into detail but he mentioned that the Club had information that Chad was looking at his options for 2020. Chad can tell us all that he loves us all but the fact is in twelve months time he still could have said, 'thanks for the memories' but I want to play for 1M in Melbourne. It happens all the time.

I posted this at a Hawthorn supporter late last week but the Port Adelaide Football Club did not 'offer him around' and to put that up as an argument is way off the mark. Wingard, who was under contract, and his management were told to explore options which he did. The Bulldogs and Hawthorn showed real interest with Chad finally settling on Hawthorn. Wingard may have been forced out of the Club but then again he might also have decided to do today what he was intending to do next year. There is no conclusive evidence as to which way it was but there are a lot of people jumping to conclusions.

Port Power: we exist to jump at shadows.

This, and it's what makes all the posturing about his attitude and motivation ring so hollow.

Some people are carrying on as if he's Harley Bennell and Ben Cousins combined. Yet despite this, Hawthorn were so desperate to get him they risked pissing off a favourite son and alienating their supporter base, as well as giving us their only decent pick and best youngster. Compared to Clarkson's usual modus operandi of offering peanuts it was a lot, and it's because he knows Wingard is pure quality. The fact that he's not the best trainer and Chad Cornes thinks he's a shit bloke clearly didn't matter, and nor should it, because it's all completely secondary to Wingard's genuine talent and match-winning abilities.

Meanwhile at Port we're all sitting here with our arms folded trying to feel smug about imaginary 'standards' a bunch of losers keep telling us we're setting.
