It's more than that. It's a full blown addiction, not just a hobby. It's a big reason why he's not meeting fitness standards and it's contributing to his poor posture and back related hamstring problems.

It's not 1992, and footy away trips are not pub crawls and car park shagging. It's insanely expensive and an elite sport with millions of dollars involved in sponsorship, endorsements, contracts and on field performances.

No one begrudges someone a hobby, but no one sane endorses a self destructive addiction either.
**** off, this is such bullshit

Bugger wingard, I'm backing the club in on this.
I'm pissed at the club for what we've given up In the first 2 trades, but I'm cutting them some slack here.

Agree here. There is a lot we are not seeing but Chad's on field persona stinks. My son / daughter attended a clinic with players and did not even try to look interested. Bottom line is relationship broken and its either Ken or him....and unfortunately Ken is not going anywhere. So milk the best trade and move on.

I haven't tracked Burton as much this year - just how good was his year 2 and how much do you not want to lose him? Is Burton + 15 for Chad seen as good for you guys?

Now i dont know if you have any idea of my posting history, i rate Wingard. Ive mentioned a number of times over the years he is the number 1 player i want to see as a hawk, never thought it would happen though.

Now back to your question, i wouldn't even be happy with a straight swap.

Maybe i overrate burton but a kid like him to recover from such an injury to get to afl fitness and perform at the level immediately. Just has it all skill and mindset.

Yes he had a down 2018 where he was nothing more then a role player but .. he was given defensive roles all year along with opposition teams putting in alot more effort into him.

Let him off the leash and watch him go imo. He is a Rolls Royce.

Im not saying Burton has more talent then Wingard, they are both ultra talented. Just where we are at, what he means to the club, id be devastated if we traded burton for Wingard who unfortunately for you guys is a FA next year.

This is the port board so i dont want to get into the FA stuff, just when Burton is apparently on the table. Boy does it stick into like a knife.

Burton was runner up in the Rising Star last year (in front of SPP). Had a great year. This year not so much. Can play forward, mid and Clarkson has been improving his defensive side this year. He's a good mark. I'd love him at Port.

Burton is kind of overhyped because he's like the only young guy that Hawthorn has where you could deem star potential. For reference, Lienert played better than Burton did this year.

16 possessions a game in the easiest position to win the ball plus also dropped doesn't fill me with confidence. I mean if we're going to ignore bad seasons and go on past history, the same should be applied to Wingard who had two AAs under his belt at the same age.

So what do you expect? To get a two time all Australian and B&F winner for nothing? Do you believe that Hawthorn should be allowed to run around the AFL taking whoever they like without paying a price?

You are right about one thing Wingard is a RFA next year but that does not mean he would automatically go to Hawthorn or that he would even go if we match another offer. If Wingard does go next year the AFL compensation pick is likely to be better than the #15 currently on offer. Twelve months in footy can be a long time and Hawthorn are not in a position to dictate on this one.

From our perspective it ought to be two top ten picks or Burton and a top ten pick and we want them 2018 vintage no future picks. How they get the picks is up to Hawthorn.

To me that’s a strength but it also points to my one concern. Is his past injury a non factor. From memory it was horrible and dropped him down the order.

I was simply replying to a poster asking about my view of burton.

Port are in there rights to ask for what the deem worthy but.... for arguments sake would you be happy to trade SPP and a 1st for Gaff?

A bit, not much. Ollie will learn from that mistake but Robbie has been missing regulation shots for a very long time.

Not trying to derail the thread, my original point was in agreeance with yours - we've put more expectation and scrutiny on Chad while others avoid it. Sure he hasn't been at his AA best but how many others actually have a ceiling that high?
Ollie has been playing for 6 years now his kicking for goal & disposal in general is a lost cause.

I'll miss that nearly as much as I'd miss Dixon kicking six straight behinds in the same game.

Wines's shot in the second showdown this year.

Boak missing it all running in to goal vs Freo.

Jonas marshalling the defence in the last 30 seconds vs West Coast.

Ryder knocking off early vs West Coast.

You can go through the whole list, including our biggest names, and find moments of amateur plays that contributed to shocking losses.

The fact that Chad's last few kicks in that game are continually brought up while others are forgotten, does reek of the tall poppy to me.

The fact that he literally kicked to the ONLY player in front of him who, in typical Port fashion, was outnumbered, one of whom being the best intercept defender in the game, is also glossed over, reeks of our inept coaching also being given the all clear.

'I know it's close and they have the moment, but what if we do get it past half way?'
'Get it past half way?!?! Why would we want to do that!'

Wingard though.

If only we still had Schulz and Angus Young in the forward line hey ??

We do not want Gaff so the point is immaterial. You want Wingard you have to pay the price.

As has been pointed out the problems for us with Burton are his injury record and the fact that we already have a 193cm player with very similar stats and fitting Burton into our side would not be that easy.

As I posted if we wait until next year we will get a top ten draft pick as compo if we do not match an offer. It is reported that we have the second lowest cap in the AFL so we should have the capacity to match if we choose to. If Hawthorn want Chad that badly they have to seal the deal in 2018 and the only way they can achieve that is to come up with top ten draft picks.

Western Bulldogs are also in the hunt for Wingard so we could negotiate a potential deal with them that sees their #7 pick and 2019 first round pick come to us in exchange for Chad. We then tell Chad that we cannot deal with Hawthorn as they have no currency but that if he wants to leave Alberton badly enough and if he wants to go to Victoria we can work a deal with the Bulldogs. Not saying that will happen but it is more likely than Andrew Gaff coming to us.
