Changes for Gold Coast

I am bit of a glass half empty sort.

I think we are a very good chance to lose this weekend and will definately get smashed by the mob up the road the following week.

Johnson is a week by week proposition and Pav is now liability in the forward line - just too slow. Both should have retired last season. Pav especially has done the club no favours by hanging in for one more season. I predict both will retire before the season is out.

Our game plan has been done and dusted for a while now and it take a season to master a new one. Lyon is a top coach and he will get the job done but it will take time. If it pans out as I expect that we will start the season 0-3 or 0-4 then watch the changes that will start to happen then.

If we get McCarthy and Hooker in the offseason and plenty of games in the youf this season then the future is very bright.

The cry to play more youth is interesting. You would think that Ross never plays youth, or develops lists!
lets look at a few things:
Of the 2011 list, only 18 players remain on the list.
Of the drafts that have happened since Ross came to the club (2011-2015, national and rookie), the players drafted in those drafts have played 665 games!....Compare that to Hawthorn with 327 games for players drafted in the same period.
Interesting :)

But hawthorn got the excuse of 4 GF
Us GF, out double chance , preliminary final. Umm get you flag maynebe.

I think Saad would be best played as loosely as possible. Running line breakers like him get a free run against us.

That's the big question. We all know how good Saad is at running out of defense, but based on NAB 3 where he destroyed Betts, we now know he can perform a lockdown role too. The question has to be asked which is more important. I'd argue that since Walters is so absolutely key to Freo's scoring, limiting him to under 10 disposals would really damage Fremantle's ability to score. My current thinking is that if Kolojashnij is healthy, play him as the loose man and play Saad on Walters. If not, play Saad as a rebounding defender. It's a tricky situation.

2013 we go to GF
2014 we out of the competition with 2 home k0
2015 we lost to hawthorn in preliminary final
2016 maybe Mayne kick straight and won us a flag in GF.

Although I agree with you that Pavlich should have retired last year, I think Johnson's still got some good football in him, at least for this year. But he might be a bit touch and go for whether he plays week by week. But he's too good to have him just up and retire after the preliminary final last year.

Pav looked alot quicker than Barlow.

Barlow looks absolutely cooked and it is round 1. I suspect he will end the season in the magoos.

Am I one of the only ones who doesn't rate Spurr? I just think that he has been so average for such a long time and nothing gets done about it?

Outs: Griffin/Clake/ Spurr/ Mayne

In: Sandi/Johnson/ Langdon/ Grey or Hughes

He had a forgettable game but has been one of the best small defenders for the last couple of seasons, hence 'nothing being done' about him.

Maybe the diet that make him look thinner had an effect on him.

Crozier. Play him for 4 quarters and for several weeks at least. Mayne has had 2 years of free passes. Croz has the tools to play the same role.
Tanner Smith is not an AFL footballer. No idea why he's still on our list.
Agree, Crozier is a real talent. Mayne has survived because there has been no alternative. Agree with Tanner comments - I don't think he'll make it.

I posted this at the end of last season and it derailed a thread. This might cause some melting, but we could have traded Barlow for McCarthy. I'm still not sure I would have banished a club great to that swamp.

As far as I am aware the club asked Pav to play on when the McCarthy trade fell over. Pav will play out the season if he is physically capable.

could easily see us delisting barlow at the end of the season and then GWS getting him for free anyway. I dojn't think the pick + barlow was ever on the table though.

I doubt there was anyone out there "not trying" on the weekend. There certainly looked like a lot of guys who had no clue, and spent the whole day chasing tail and corralling opposition instead of attacking the ball. The coaches can blame lack of effort, but I think that is a cop out - they have had the whole off season to have the boys primed and ready to go.

To me one of the problems is we still try to pressure teams by shutting down space and corralling people, but the only real pressure that counts now is scoreboard pressure. West Coast let in over 100 points on the weekend and still won easily - and seemed to have a whale of a time doing it. When was the last time you saw a Fremantle side that seemed to be actually enjoying their football?

I'm sure the players would rather win 11.9.75 v 10.5.65 than lose 16.9.105 v 18.12.120.

No it was never tabled. Freo weren't interested.

BS. Why would GWS want Barlow??

He barely got a run in our midfield rotations last year, FFC would have preferred to offer a first rounder and Barlow than 2 x first rounders.

As a trade last year Barlow would have been worth a pick in the 30-50 range.

Silvagni has to play. They've got 2 decent key forwards in Lynch and Day, and Dawson and Silvagni have to take them. We've got no-one else.

Unless someone that's seen Collins play that reckon he's up to it.

Silvagni had another good game and deserves a spot. Dawson did not cover himself in glory with his handballing and I suspect MJ and Silva would do a better job ATM but for this game it may mean Silva, Dawson and MJ play with Clancee missing out.
