Changes for Gold Coast

Unfortunately as much as we like to express our opinions on this forum the fact is that Lyon will always stick with the tried and true. Its his modus operandi and he will not change

I expect minimal changes this week. Clarke replaced by Sandi and Weller dumped for DeBoer and maybe bring in a extra tall for Gu.

This decision on Sunday to omit Silvangi for team balance was horrendous. God help us if we go in on Sat with only Dawson against Lynch and Day.

Did Griffen actually get any ball at all Sunday. Griffen forward is a disaster. He can't hold a mark and his defender runs of him at will. Agree with you on most things but Griff no.
Griffin was the biggest disappointment for me. Against a third string ruckman he should have at least won the hitouts and given our mids first crack at the ball.

He failed around the ground like everyone else but he has no excuse for losing the ruck. With Clarke injured i don't know what Ross will do. Don't think he had ever gone in with just Sandi.

Alex Pearce could give Sandi a chop out.

IMO we are no chance of a top 4 finish let alone flag contenders.
The bottom line is we just do not have the fire power up front. To me it's like every week we'll go to a gun fight and we show up with a knife.

You might be right but the same forward line managed to kick enough goals to win 9 games in a row last year and finish top of the table. We also kicked 9 goals in a quarter against West Coast last season.

What's changed in the space of 12 months? It's not like we lost a Dunstall/Lockett/Carey in the off season.

He's a rolls Royce and they should not be played in the ruck. Appness had better get back quick if Clarke is injured. For all griffs competitive instinks he is not the modern mobile ruckman and neither is Hannath.
I thought Hawks really struggled against the two mobile rucks the cats had yesterday Stanley and smith .

But we don't improve , other do .last year we got Johnson , macca ,pav , and Sandi one year younger.

Nothing to do with firepower, everything to do with structure, endeavour and skills.

We could have had Josh Kennedy and Buddy Franklin up forward on Sunday and would still have got a belting. The Eagles have an A grade forward line and see how well it went in the GF when they were belted around the ground?

For whatever reason we don't seem to have a coherent game plan any more, and try to slow play down at every opportunity - giving opposition teams time to cut off our floaty 20 metre lateral passes.

I'm hoping it's an adjustment to a new game plan, because even our highly skilled players (E.g. Hill, Walters, Mundy) missed easy targets and put the ball into dumb positions. Maybe we are in that phase between getting the old habits out of the system and the new ones becoming ingrained.

People calling for the heads of all and sundry after that effort is dumb - what we should be calling for is some glimpse of a working MODERN game plan. If I see that this week I will be very content to give the coaches some leeway.

Yes and double yes. We can get away with Sandi because of his size. A mid size non mobile ruck man in todays game is just no.no.no.

Still would like langdon, weller and a.Pearce to play against GC I don't even care what the position they are playing get the ball out of defensive 50 whether by precise foot or hand.

Tab if he can't mark , can't play defense just let him ruck a bit , Griff / Clarke got beaten anywhere.

It's impossible for us to kick a winning score with a 35 year old key forward and Tabs.Mayne can't hit a barn door!

We are no chance of booting 100+ plus per week and keep the opposition to under 86 pts per week. It's not going to happen with the personnel we plonk in our forward line week in week out.

The ball struggle to get to forward half, with Sandi maybe we get first use will help improve 10-15 %.

Agree to disagree free at last - unfortunately we won't be able to slot in anyone better in the near future.

I would love to have a better forward line, but we don't. Essentially it's the same forward line that demolished the Eagles in derby 1 last year, smashed Geelong and scored well enough to be what 9 and 1? Pav is a year older but still looks as fit as last year, Taberner has another year's experience. Walter and Ballas are still in their prime. Granted Mayne is a liability at the moment, but I daresay he's not the worst forward in the game.

I still think if we had a game plan that allowed us to get the ball into our forward line quickly our forwards would get more opportunities, confidence would rise and we would look a lot better. Look at the good sides now, most of their goals are easy shot because they have got forwards into space through quick transition. We can't even spell transition.

I would love to see some of the younger guys getting games into them, and I think that will help with the enthusiasm of the whole squad, but they are not a panacea. I said in the preseason I think we will have to wait until about June to know what our season will end up like.

This is not the week for speculative selections. The only changes that should be made are those that are forced through injury(Clarke) or the inclusion of best 22ers who missed Sunday's debacle(Sandilands, Johnson). The only exception to this I would allow would be to alter the team balance by including another runner(Langdon) or excluding a ruckman for another tall(Pearce).

Before a gameplan we need effort.

Hopefully the boys show some this weekend after the wakeup call they just had.
I doubt there was anyone out there "not trying" on the weekend. There certainly looked like a lot of guys who had no clue, and spent the whole day chasing tail and corralling opposition instead of attacking the ball. The coaches can blame lack of effort, but I think that is a cop out - they have had the whole off season to have the boys primed and ready to go.

To me one of the problems is we still try to pressure teams by shutting down space and corralling people, but the only real pressure that counts now is scoreboard pressure. West Coast let in over 100 points on the weekend and still won easily - and seemed to have a whale of a time doing it. When was the last time you saw a Fremantle side that seemed to be actually enjoying their football?

That was 12 months ago.
We don't have the cattle to implement a strong offensive game plan starting from our D50.
Our players miss targets willy nilly.

From what I've seen already,we will slide for sure, how far,I'm not to sure.

Do we actually had a game plan or our game plan is truly been exposed without Sandi we will lost our centre bounce , with Sandi we win ruck but opposition analyst who the ball go to. If opposition put forward pressure on us like what we do , do we got game plan to get out of it. WB will not look that good in the second match against St kilda just my feeling.

Let not overlook WB improvement, let hope other team may not improve that much.

bit late to the party. surprised he got off.

The match day charge laid against Fremantle’s Matthew Pavlich for engaging in rough conduct against the Western Bulldogs’ Easton Wood was assessed. The panel said it was their view that Pavlich was seeking to contest the ball and had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball in the circumstances. No further action was taken
