Just rewatched parts of the Melbourne Geelong game.

Geelong gave Melbourne so much room! Luke Jackson by himself in the 4th quarter. Gawn walks past 5 Geelong players dawdling behind him to kick a goal.
The 'geriatric' name tag for the Geelong players makes sense. Didn't run didn't compete and there was always a mismatch of some kind or a player out of position, Kozzies goals coming from this lack of effort by Zac Guthrie.

Sure Melbourne are a much better team than Geelong but any other team would not have lost by that margin.

Has to be Dunkley.

I’d put Dunkley on Oliver, which would stop Petracca getting it as much from him. Petracca is better running away with the ball, rather than winning it himself

I don't think we'll tag anyone off the bat, it'll be whoever is inflicting damage on the day. Dunkley would be the man for either.

No point trying to tag Oliver unless you go full De Boer on him which only costs you an effective midfielder. Oliver has actually become pretty effective by foot after being a big time butcher early in his career. Just looking on footywire his average number of kicks has increased year on year which matches what I've seen of him the past few years. And he sneakily gets a lot of ground too, he can cover 50m + very comfortably after breaking a tackle coming out of a pack. Need to force him into dinky handballs as much as possible.

This week off sucks. I hope it doesn't kill our form or run of pressure.
By Grand Final day Melbourne will have only played 1 match in 28 days. It could easily backfire for them as well.

The extra week is really important for Martin. And he is the guy we really need to stand up on GF day. We need to halve the stoppage contest with Gawn.

It’s also an extra week for Keath, Weightman, the Bont, VDM and anyone else carrying injuries etc.

We are more banged up than Melbourne. We’ve played a lot of footy and travelled quite a bit so I suspect that the week off is a godsend. But who knows.

You could argue the week off kills our momentum. But the same applies to Melbourne who have won 7 in a row.

I would rather the week off than not. I’m loving it as a supporter. We can soak up the glory of being in the GF again.

Will be interesting to see how Melbourne go with two 14 day breaks. Unchartered territory. I suspect they will come out firing and we will need to be at our best to win.

Edit - If I was playing and fit, I would hate the extra week off. Would just be keen to get out there. Luckily for everyone on here I won’t be playing.

This is a bit off-topic but...

I just had a look at the Melbourne board to get a sense of the vibe over there. The first thing I noticed was how clean, organised and structured their board is. Every thread title is uniformly and neatly formatted. It's incredible. Then you look at our board and it's an absolute mess. It's like a lawyer's desk vs a mechanic's work table covered in oily rags and c** socks. The stereotypes of both teams supporters are pretty spot on.

Clearly you’ve never seen my desk

Watching the freedom Bev gave Oliver the last time we played, I reckon he thinks Oliver still isn’t that damaging by foot. I think he’s happy enough to see him have the ball over others. Or maybe it was just an acknowledgment that Oliver is difficult to stop.

The problem is, like Petracca, if they get enough of it they will eventually hit targets.

Bevo doesn’t like to tag all that much. Dunkley is our best at it. But not too many. Would he bother?

I'd tend to go with the latter as he is pretty quick as well as strong. The trick will be disrupting or at least compromising supply allowing a defender that split second longer to catch him before he breaks or not get it all.
