Fritsch is the one we need to clamp down on. He's a classy and clever player and can put 4 goals on in a hurry. Reckon Doc has to go to him and close him down like the dis Cameron.

He may be a bit too tall for Duryea and we need someone to match up on Kosi Pickett. I would give the job to Wood. Wood didn't have the pace to go with Cameron, but he does against Fritsch.

We got away with playing a smaller opponent on Jackson both times. I would risk it and do it again.

That would leave Williams to take Brown, Jackson or McDonald?
Williams on McDonald is perfect for us
McDonald travels far and wide - when he doesn’t mark it, Williams becomes an extra creative midfielder with a ranging kick and good evasion - not something Melbourne would be comfortable about and our forwards should be salivating

JJ has to be starting 22 for mine. A great prelim and former Norm Smith medalist. I reckon he will play very well again.
In - Keath, Weightman.
Out - Cordy, VDM.
VDM sub. If fit his speed and pressure could be a weapon coming on later in game. Cordy very unlucky played well and another guy who has been there before and did a great job forward in 2016.
Left field Cordy sub instead of VDM. Imagine losing Keath to hamstring in first qtr or another tall.
Cordy is the rational choice for sub - covers a number of angles

Becomes a tough call between VDM or Roarke
Would never have thought it but I’m tilting to Roarke for balance

I'd be surprised if we went a tall as sub. Reckon our Sub will be whoever misses out of the 22 from Vanders, JJ or Roarke, or else Scott.

I’m surprised the odds are $1.64 to $2.24 with Dees favourites.

Thought it would be more like $1.80/$2 in Dees favour.

What were the odds before the 2016 GF? Sydney we’re favourites weren’t they? I don’t remember feeling like we were underdogs in 2016.
Odds are stupid just like they were against Port but all the better for us

I can’t believe Jordan Lewis actually said he thinks the Melbourne midfield will eventually wear the Dogs midfield down, I hope they really believe that!

While their midfield is better than Port's comfortably, I think we may just shade them if we can stop Gawn belting us
Gawn belted us last time we played and our midfield still won, I reckon the Gawn hype is way overdone. Th Cats had well and truly stopped in the 3rd Qtr when Gawn dominated

Vdm execution worries me. Swap for cody. JJ and Josh lifted big time against PA, loved there contribution. I think Keith for cordy. But I'm not paid to make those decisions so it wouldn't surprise me if someone stays / goes that doesn't make sense to me although from a strategic point of view does to bevo. Just hoping like hell Martin doesn't hurt himself in training.
Martin won’t hurt himself in training as he won’t be doing much I would guess

I know I'm being a total floggish spelling nazi here.... but it's KEATH not keith. And it's GARDNER, not gardiner.

And with that off my chest it's ZAINE, not zane. And I want him in. I know I'm in the minority, I know he's got his critics (especially in here) but I'll be backing him in for sure.... he always seems to find another gear in the big games. Has played very well in Finals previously and that includes last week. Not a knock on Gardner and maybe all three play - it's a tall forward line with Brown, McDonald and Fritsch... throw in Jackson and big Maxy resting down there. Doubt it though with Woody more than capable, so the obvious scenario is either Zaine or Ryan make way for Keathy. Cordy's one of those soldiers Bevo talks about, and he's harder and more physical at the ball carrier than most. Yeah, he's a touch on the slow side, but if he gets you, you stay got. Has to play for mine.
You have been doing too much home skooling !

Schache has high footy iq and I would expect him to execute the plan against Lever. A lot is said about how great May and Lever are but the Naughton and Schache duo may win us this game. Naughts could have a blinder playing in front of his home(WA crowd), he also may have a shocker but either way May will be very worried. we need to isolate Naughts at times as if he does not beat May in the air he will destroy him at ground level. Naughts is so bloody quick and agile, May has no chance keeping up with him, especially with a concern on his Hammy. I expect Petty to go on him And May on English now.

Schache Just play Lever from behind. Goodwin knows we will target him the most going by the port game so hopefully this blunts Levers intercepting. Cody is also great on the lead. We have 4 to 5 marking options up forward and Optus is a bigger ground so there is space to lead.

my only concern is big Max and don’t think Stef can go with him. If we can curtail Max‘s input and make sure he gets close attention when he runs forward we have a massive chance.

i think Wallis is a smoky for the sub. Can play 3 roles. Inside mid, medium forward and most probably forget how great a tagger he was. If Steph runs out of gas in the 3rd running with Gawn and giving 100%, Mich comes in and plays on Lever. English and Schache rotate the ruck. Just say Oliver is killing it And Dunks cannot quell him, late in the game a fresh Wallis could clamp down on Oliver, yes I know is quicker but would have faith in WALLIS. If libba or dunks are injured WALLIS could play a inside mid role.

My changes are still:

Keath, Weightman in
Roarke, Cordy out

wallis sub. Of course I don’t think that And expect Scott, but an article in the age today with Steve Wallis say how hard it is Mitch is not going to play in another GF just made me think.
Naughton had good games already at Optus as he didn’t AO I reckon he will be confident

I think Scott is a certain omission, and it’s most likely VDM will be the sub. Weightman matches his defensive effort so we don’t lose that.

JJ played one of his best games for the year and is a Norm Smith medallist and Roarke really plays a different role.

Still, it’s Bevo. If Schache went out for Louis Butler it wouldn’t surprise me at this point.
I think the killer move will be, and I hope it is, Woody to full-forward.

Fair call.

These two gonna be amongst the ins for the dees?

I bloody loved that from Bugg and Watts. Footys entertainment and we need to encourage players to do that sort of stuff, not kick them in the balls every time they do.

Gifted the last 50 games of his career, such a beat up the coverage he receives.
He’s been a warrior throughout Melbourne’s bad times, I salute him.

And I couldn’t care less if the Dees get ALL the publicity 😉

Barely reading it, for good reason.

Besides, I know the narrative which is the same as us in 2016 being the fairytale so that is why many more want Melbourne to win

Got paid well to play a game and hasn’t been best 22 for years. It’s not like we’re talking about a legit star like Shane Crawford finally winning a flag.

We’re gonna ambush them I feel, our best is on a different level to Melbourne and we’ll be at our best for a granny
We kind of need to. Our mids need to mob them and our forwards just need to bring it to ground. The hidden weakness Melbourne have is ground ball defence it’s just no one sees it because they never get bullied enough around the ball and their tall backs intercept mark.

if you deny them on clean enough entries which we’re capable of you can mob them like we did Port.

that Port defence was amazing. Jonás and Aliir rock. But we crushed them.

Our weakness in this game I feel is defending the air down back on their clean entries.

they have 3 genuine talls to our 2 in our backline. Wood and Williams will have their hands full with the third tall- probably Jackson.

but quite simply we just need to deny them quality entries on repeat. Which our midfield is extremely capable of doing. It has amazing defensive instincts.

Our rebound is another strength and once it hits the deck I trust us to be slick and attacking.

Anyone heard from the Doug (MD)??? I think making it to a granny with our backline including Dale playing a key part and Schache in the forward line is just a bridge too far for him to cross, blokes probably had a stroke just thinking about it
If anyone who considers themselves a true doggies supporter and is upset at the players in our team that have helped us get to another big dance, well then you ain't a true supporter.
I absolutely love this team and the players who have gotten us to another GF.
2 in my life time. So proud of every player.
