Changes For the sydney test

But expect no changes aside from Beer in and possibly Hughes out. Hughes should never have been dropped for the 3rd test in England. Talented but needs to show some patience.
But he was dropped, and yet he has come back into the side 18 months later seemingly having made no improvement to his temperament, his technique or his attitude.

What does that tell you about the guy?

Watson
Katich/Hughes
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Smith
Haddin
Johnson
Harris
Hilfenhaus/or Siddle
Beer

That'll be the line up with a paceman being replaced by Beer for Sydney.

Ideally, I'd drop Ponting to 6, shift Khawaja to three and possibly drop Smith with an eye to play Beer as the specialist spinner.

Alternatively, I'd love to shift Watson to drop to 6 and bowl a whole lot more, with that allowing one of the seamers to be dropped and thus accomodate another batsman up the order.

Very little will change for Sydney though.

Clarke did lead our twenty20 side to the final having previously been shithouse (even tho on batting merit shouldnt be near the twenty20 side). He's a reasonable captain but he's gotta get his batting right.
You don't need a captain in T20. You just need to guess the side the bat flips and you win automatically.

He lost ALL confidence when he was dropped he was made to believe by the media and public that he had a major defiency in his batting he hasnt recovered since.

He must wonder how ******ed it is to give other players magnitude of chances(North etc) he needs to make massive scores against some minnow teams.

Having seen our bowlers today...

Watson
Marsh
Khawaja
Clarke (C)
Hussey
D.Hussey/Ponting/Ferguson/Smith
Haddin (wk)
Hauritz/O'Keefe
Johnson
Harris
Copeland
12th Siddle

Mitch shouldn't survive but dropping someone 2 games since taking 9 wickets in a match would just erode the little remaining confidence we have. Hilf has kept it tight, but has lacked any real wicket taking deliveries, so there is little harm in trying Copeland, who is the most promising bowler in shield cricket atm.

Ricky is a gonner. Since the series is most likely gone he deserves one final game, but not at number 3. Something tells me this would never happen though. Khawaja is the best state batsman and he is perfectly suited to first drop. Marsh is not an opener, but he can't be any worse than Hughes and we literally have no one else who can do it for us (disregard Kat, we need to move on). Letting Hughes go back to NSW and regain his form surely would be the best thing for him.

Number 6 is impossible to select for. We only have one Khawaja, and he needs to be at 3. DHuss is the best of all potential candidates, but he is 34 next year. Ferguson has been good this season, but has he really done enough to bat at no. 6? Smith has seemed out of his depth but could quite easily stay for an extended period of time to see what he's capable of. I'd probably end up going with Ferg, averaging 48 with a couple of centuries deserves a shot (apologies to Hussey)

Hauritz adds batting and hasn't put a foot wrong since being dropped. If he must be over looked, then please let it be for O'Keefe. Up to 5 debuting players, but that's what you get for getting thumped by England.

This is all subject to change obviously if Siddle takes 10 wickets or Hughes smashes a hundred in the second innings :p

1.Watson
2.Hughes
3.Ponting
4.Khwaja
5.Hussey
6.Clarke
7.Haddin
8.Okeefe
9.Johnson
10.Harris
11.Copeland

Would like Ponting at 4, 5 or 6 but he does need to protect Khwaja if we lose early wickets. Cosgrove to come in for the next tour, Punta retires.

Mass changes will never happen.

- Katich should be fit to play - that takes care of Hughes
- Ponting will stay. His injury is an excuse.
- Khawaja should come in for Clarke but it won't happen.
- Beer for Hilfenhaus/Siddle
- Ferguson for Steve Smith.

Is this what you want to happen or what you think will?
Beer should be no where near the team. He was selected on the premise that he was suited to the WACA, not on form or his past record. It'll be a farce if he is in the starting XI over Hauritz or O'Keefe (saying that I think we can all accept that knowing our selectors it will probably happen )

This won't happen but this is what I would like to see:

W. Robinson (he is a very consistent opener for WA who values his wicket and knows how to spend time at the crease.)
M.Hussey
U. Khawaja
S. Watson
M. Hussey
R. Ponting
T. Paine
N. Hauritz
M. Johnson
T. Copeland
R. Harris

What will happen is that Beer will play for one of the fast bowers.

They chanced their arm by playing four quicks again here and unless they pick Hauritz for Sydney, will be picking a spinner to make his debut.

If Smith doesn't bowl, I'm not sure why he is in the team. He isn't good enough to bat at 6. He is fine batting in a Test match at 8 when the pressure is off as he is great batting in a one day or 20/20 match.

Crazy thing is that a lot of the issues that were raised re selection before Brisbane are still being raised before Sydney.

That's testament to the selectors sticking their heads in the sand?

Cosgrove is actually the most in-form opener we have. Khawaja should come in to take the number three spot. Ponting won't get dropped, but he can be pushed down the order. Can't see Clarke getting dropped either (despite his form). But Smith, IMHO, just looks all at see.

Maybe Hauritz instead of O'Keefe, given that the latter hasn't had much game time under his belt lately.

Agree with you on Cosgrove. He may be fat but he's an opener first and foremost...something that Hughes MAY be but at the moment looks like a park cricketer against the big boys. Also agree with having Khawaja come in at 3 with Ponting moving down the order.

Clarke should never bat higher than 5!!!!

Copeland is as good as any other bowler to come in.

So what you are saying is pea hearted flat track bully gets dropped, has a sook, gets selected again on 'potential' despite not having any form, and thats the reason why he is still lame?

ROFL

North a more worthy selection than Hughes on current form...As rubbish as North was in the test side.

Tim Nielson should apologise and resign immediately. replace him with border, steve waugh or greg shippherd.

The selectors should be all sacked.

Michael Clarke has to go. over paid pea heart.

Phil Hughes, Stephen Smith have to go. Both should never have been picked in the first place.

Shane Watson and Brad Haddin despite being servicable should be read the riot act for the way they batted today.

harris, katich left out unfairly if choose a side for future.

The best xl for Sydney.
Katich, Watson, Ponting, Kajawha,Hussey M, Hussey D, Haddin, Johnson, Harris, Hauritz, Siddle.

Future xl

*Copeland/George/Hilfenhaus

*I'd immediately include Magoffin instead of C/G/H whenever he is finally fit again.

The need to finally get rid of dead wood (eg Siddle, Clarke) and/or players who are not yet ready (eg Hughes, Smith) has been exposed big time today - when Watto and Hussey have finally failed to fire and stopped papering over the significant number of passengers in the side.

Laugh at how everyone is dropping Siddle and that was mostly before anyone had even bowled

If you think Hilfenhaus record on the MCG is appalling, wait untill you see his SCG one ;) Then compare with Siddle and try and suggest Siddle out and retain Hilfy with a straight face

Siddle and Hilfenhaus are as bad as each other. One moves the ball well but doesn't know how to take advantage of it (plus bowls way too wide of off stump) and the other reverts to half track bowling after taking a hat trick with full, straight deliveries. At their best they are both in our best side, but they hardly ever consistently reach that level.

D. Hussey won't get selected because they don't want to admit that they were wrong to leave him out while selecting North, SMith, Hughes, and a host of other players ahead of him.

As for Hughes bowling, he's only bowled in 1 innings of his test match career, he's hardly been the 'all rounder'

and his batting so far has been lame, pathetic, weak...blah blah

In fact in tests, whites batting > smiths batting.

no more michael beer. what the hell are the selectors thinking (not thinking) with his selection?

hauritz in as a spinner and three pacemen, watson can bowl, you do not need 6 bowlers!
