At this stage I'd stick with just Howe for Moore. Give Ruscoe at least a second game as he did enough to warrant it. That also gives Dean a block of VFL to get fully match hardened after so much time on the sidelines.

That said, if Carmichael (kid needs a nickname) plays well enough this week I'd consider bringing him in to give Pendles a rest. Looks like he'd benefit from it.

Wouldn’t be against a rest for Pendles or Sidey and give one of the young mids a look.

I would rest both, given we travel to Adelaide the week after. Good opportunity to play Carmichael and Macrae. Hope both can have good games today in the VFL.
Will be an interesting watch this morning, with eyes on Dean, considering the injury to Moore...

Not really.
A forward is meant to kick goals. If you can’t nail a set shot from 50, you ain’t worthy.
The team that scores the most, wins.
We score less without him, the three he kicked prior come off the scoresheet.

I think if he had his time again might be a little more conventional, don’t worry we wont need to drop him.

Yeah but Daicos is 4 years older and A BLOODY DAICOS! :tearsofjoy:

I think Ginnivan is the type that is going to make crazy mistakes here and there, but if he can slot 2-3 a week he's done his job. You can't drop a kid who's doing his job.
I just wanted to highlight this and there’s two

Would it be an indictment on McMahon if Dean is preferred to him after 2 VFL games? Or an overreaction from me?
Overreaction. Dean was the best young player in the VFL last year and preferred at the start of this year. Kelly though…

I’ve only caught up on the 1st Q so this is preliminary knowing of Moore’s injury.

In: Dean and Howe
Out: Moore and ?

There’s been suggestions on Ruscoe, but having not watched in full I can’t make that call. What I can comment on though is that we can’t lose Moore and not replace him with an anchor KPD. For us to make inroads as the season wears on we can’t be relying on Howe and Murphy as our key talls and we’re running out of matches to get someone else up to speed.

Yes because he’s not old school…. Just old. He’s a relatable likeable bloke.

He’s also spent years working within the AFL system so understands how clubs work.
Noble’s spent more time in the system than Fagan (Noble 98 at the Dogs and Fagan 99 at the Dees) he knows how clubs work as well as anyone.

IMO, he’s not up to it, but North have set both him and Shaw up to fail with their list management. They’re all in on 18 yo’s at the draft when most other clubs are embracing mature talent in some form and it’s left them with bare bones in the 23-28 age bracket.

FWIW you can get $15 on North at the moment. I don’t think they can win, but the 56.5 point line is very tasty.

Betts demonstrated explosive crumbing ability which I haven’t really seen from Ginnivan. He also pulled out the show-time stuff when he was consistently delivering. He was also probably one of the greatest small forwards of all time.
It’s a bit early to compare Ginnivan to Betts.
How about we let him try catching up to Gray, Papley, Cameron, Green, Ryan, Walters before we even put him in the same ball park as Boomer Harvey, Nathan Brown, Cyril or Betts.
He was interviewed post game on Channel 7. McLaughlin asked Burgoyne what he’d do with the same kick. Burgoyne said, “drop punt”. Mr Hotshot had the last word and said, “I hadn’t missed a snap set shot to date.”
That comment said it all. When a 400+ game, multiple premiership player gives advice, you let him have the last word.

Chill a bit. Do people not understand Ginnivans personality on and off the field ?

On the field he’s 100% alll in to win. He admitted the mistake in that same interview you are talking about. But his off field personality is to not take things too seriously. Which is probably why and how he’s handled the biggest amount of criticism and media spotlight I’ve seen for a sub 20 game player. Just remember he’s 19.

Naicos is also 19 but it’s a great example of people can operate in different ways. Doesn’t make one better than the other in how they operate. I love the contrast in both. I will say Ginnivan wants success and wins as much as Nick does. Which says a lot and it’s exciting for the pies.

He is 21st on the goal kicking list this year and pressuring checkers for club leading goal kicking. I think he knows his limits and ability around goals more than you give him credit for.

My changes are a bit different.

Mihocek will play defence as he was there in the final minutes.

That means a forward space is freed up or we can shuffle things around further.

IN: Dean, Carmichael
OUT: Moore, Chugg (medi-sub, but he won't play next week) and someone else.

TBH, JDG played liked a twelvie who got told he wasn't the only player on the team and took personal offence to it.

Ruscoe is more of a case of last one in first one out. He played alright, did some nice things and made some mistakes. He probably deserves a chance to build some form but it’s hard to find anyone else to drop but Howe needs to come in and Moore can’t be replaced with just Howe.

Same may argue we can get away with against north but one we haven’t been able to blow teams away so that’s not the sought of pressure I’d like to put on the backline and secondly wouldn’t that just be all the more reason to introduce Dean.

Hopefully Dean has a Murphy like performances in the VFL today and makes this selection simpler.

For team balance I agree. We have too many ahead of Ruscoe playing his position.

Deans a no brained for mine. Need the least disruption to structure as possible
