What amuses me, reading this thread, are all the calls for Himmelberg to be dropped - but so few calling for Fogarty's head. Don't get me wrong - Himmelberg was awful, and definitely deserves to be dropped - but Fogarty was equally revolting. Both of these players are absolutely deplorable, and so far off being AFL standard that it's not funny, yet only one of them is singled out for "fire him into the sun" type comments.

Fogarty is 2 years younger and actually has ability. Berg is just a donkey.

He wasn't the worst on the ground, he was the third worst on ground per champion data, beating only 11 minute man Jake Soligo and fringe Collingwood mid Tyler Brown.

He offers nothing. He picks up cheap possessions to pad his numbers, all while arresting momentum, kicking sideways ot backwards, or giving short hospital handpasses. On top of that he is so slow that he looks like he's jogging on the spot while even middling runners seem to burst away from him.

Berry isn't fast, nor is he a great kick, but he is aggressive, looks to run both ways, has an attacking mindset, and has far more of a future with this side.

Ok Coach.

With Alir out we have to bring Thilthorpe in.

Jonas and McKenzie massively exposed without Alir.

Agreed

Would still like Straughan to come in, but TT definitely. Still like the idea of Frampton in and Murray going forward.

Laird for Sloane
TT for Himmelberg
Davis for McHenry - Davis going back releasing Smith, Hinge and Dawson to play higher
Frampton in for Rowe, Murray going forward. Murray and TT to play deep with Fogarty at high HF

Changes are pointless at this point if Nick's is going to continue to select Crouch, Sloane and Keays in the centre square every time.

From today's game it might be easier to name players I think would actually fit into a premiership side.

Rachele.
Pedlar. And not as a forward.
Dawson.
Cook.
Hinge. With experience.
Schoenberg. With development.
Rowe.
Doedee.
Butts.
Gollant.

Fogarty, Jones, McHenry and Sholl would want to significantly improve.

That's it. Smith too old.
Keays tries hard. But I can't see him in Melbournes side right now.

Surely we need to determine if someone like Hately has a chance at AFL level at this point?
Our bigger issue at the moment is finding the kahoonas to break from the current core mix of Sloane / Keys / Crouch / Laird to ensure we can get decent looks at our up and coming mids.

It's an indictment that at this point of our rebuild Shoenberg is the only next gen mid getting regular minutes in our midfield.

With every week the ROB contact extension is looking less and less enlightened.

I genuinely think Straughn offers more than him at this point. He's on par or better than ROB with his tap work, is still competitive in the air (which is ROBs main strength) but brings a significant upgrade in ball handling and disposal.

Time to give him a run.

Out: Rob, Himmelberg, Murray, Crouch, Soligo, Sloane, McHenry, Jones

In: Strachan, McAdam, Hamill, Berry, Thillthorpe, Milera, Murphy, Hately

Jones for Hately, as a replacement for crouch. Use Hamill and Milera as HB. Pedlar replaces Sloane in the middle. McAdam replaces Pedlar in the forwardline. Berry for McHenry. Murphy as sub. I even hate Murphy, but he played well in the sanfl trial and McHenry was putrid. Imagine 8 changes.

Our two critical areas relate to two major problems:
1) as per fmtch, the club needs to show some balls to shift away from the focus on accumulators and bring in new blood to the centre. We need more time for Dawson, Schoey, Berry, Pedlar, Hately in there at the very least.
2) we need to prioritise players that have the skills to perform. Players like Dawson, Hinge, Davis in the back half, Cook, Smith in the middle and Tex, Fog and Rachele in the forward half who consistently hit targets and move the ball with speed.

Today we did neither
