Would you be unhappy with Murray out for McAsey/Billy?

Yes, at this stage.

I thought Murray was good last week.

We shouldn't be dropping someone after 1 poor game.

He had 9 kicks and 5 turnovers last week. He was one of the worst in that first half by foot.

I'm probably not dropping him until McAsey gets a bit more of a run at it - but he's on thin ice.

Murray is not AFL standard.

Changes:
  • Hately for Sloane.
  • McAsey for Murray
  • Thilthorpe for Himmelberg

We need to see all 3, but especially Hately and McAsey. On Hately, he's one of the only big bodied midfielders we have. He's a first round draft pick and we need to see more before we dump him for good.

Don't get me wrong, Murray was poor today... as many were...But he was good last week.

We can't just drop young players after 1 poor game... as they will be inconsistent... & they need some continuity. If they have 2 consecutive shockers or say 3 quiet games, then yes, time to send them back to the sanfl to regain form.

What amuses me, reading this thread, are all the calls for Himmelberg to be dropped - but so few calling for Fogarty's head. Don't get me wrong - Himmelberg was awful, and definitely deserves to be dropped - but Fogarty was equally revolting. Both of these players are absolutely deplorable, and so far off being AFL standard that it's not funny, yet only one of them is singled out for "fire him into the sun" type comments.

I forgot about him.
I dont think he’s up to it but tell him it’s career defining.🤔

Fog was decent last week.

Berg has had 2 ordinary games.

I was disappointed Nicks didn't pull Fog off the field & have a serious chat to him about giving away too many stupid frees.

If you had to decide on one or the other for investing into the future who would you back?
Case rested.

If you think Fog was decent last week, then you're setting your standards waaaay too low. He's been schiessenhausen both weeks, just as Himmelberg has. At best he was marginally less awful last week, but he was still awful. We're talking the difference between a 1/10 game rating and a 0.75/10 game rating, where 5/10 is a par score.

Neither - and therein lies the problem. Thilthorpe is the only decent KPF on our list under the age of 30, and he's a 19yo beanpole who is still growing into his body.

Fogarty & Himmelberg have had a great opportunity at the start of the season, with the absence of Walker. Instead, both have put in performances which screamed "delist me at the first available opportunity".

Geez mate it's not rocket science - Fog has at least some runs on the board and although his disposal count is low his disposals bring other players into the game whereas Himmel just fumbles and then puts others under pressure - he also has no runs on the board - he is done.

And no Fog is not 'far off AFL standard" at all.

Can we play Strachan as a forward?
We could but why not Nick Murray in to the Forward line for Himmelberg out never to be seen at AFL level again and Frampton who according to reports was dominant down back in SANFL against Port this morning?

ith the GIANTS naming just 10 AFL-listed players, a number of Academy players got the chance to impress with Western Sydney’s James Peatling showing promise off the half-back line.

Fellow New South Wales product Nick Murray – the brother of Collingwood’s Sam Murray – kicked three goals during an impressive stint up forward.

“Nick’s played most of his career down back and we decided to put him forward as we know he’s a big body who loves to fly and attack the contest,” Schnieder said.

“He did that for us and had four shots on goal kicking three, which was great to see for a young guy playing his first official NEAFL game for us.”

GIANTS 1.2, 3.4, 7.5, 8.7 (55)

Brisbane 6.3, 9.7, 12.10, 15.14 (104)

Goals
GIANTS: Murray 3; Hill 2; Idun, Bonar, Dunkley 1.

I agree with you completely. I think Fogarty has one saving grace that Himmelberg doesn't in that he could hurt a team with just 3-4 kicks as generally he does nail them. Himmelberg gets limited opportunities also and is very unreliable when he does finally do something. Aside from that however Fogarty is on the thinnest of ice for me too.

Where did the Fogarty of the WCE match years back go where he got out on the lead go?

As a team we weren't as bad as we are now, that was years ago, still had some decent kicks in the team...

This is why he is not a selector.
I'm not a huge Crouch fan but he was far from the worst player out there for us.

He wasn't the worst on the ground, he was the third worst on ground per champion data, beating only 11 minute man Jake Soligo and fringe Collingwood mid Tyler Brown.

He offers nothing. He picks up cheap possessions to pad his numbers, all while arresting momentum, kicking sideways ot backwards, or giving short hospital handpasses. On top of that he is so slow that he looks like he's jogging on the spot while even middling runners seem to burst away from him.

Berry isn't fast, nor is he a great kick, but he is aggressive, looks to run both ways, has an attacking mindset, and has far more of a future with this side.

I think Fog is out when Tex is back.

Said in the match thread I am genuinely concerned about Fog ever being a key forward. Just doesn't have the nous to hit the ball to mark it. Still a great kick (not today), but he lacks leading patterns and just the inate ability to connect with a mid.

Hberg doesn't have it either.

Early days, but Gollant has it.

Gollant is still raw but has some promising attributes. Certainly his kicking action today was much better than the awkward swing with floating helicopter ball he had in his game last year.

He didn't give them away, the stupid umpires did.
Bit of both imo.

If the umpires are hot on you, need to keep your cool.

Instead he saw red & gave away more frees... which is stupid.

Nicks should have pulled him for a chat.
