Gee, some of the replies on Twitter to the club announcing his comeback are remarkable. Basically, they still want to cancel him and couldn’t give two shits about anything he has done to improve his understanding of indigenous culture since then.
If someone found the cure for cancer, the usuals would be on Twitter complaining about something

When did they say it was a reward?

It was a acknowledgement of him having a great preseason and doing a lot in the internal trials, same as it was for most players selected.

That’s what they should have said because that’s reasonable and almost certainly true

Nicks in his post game presser said it was a reward

Would be an interesting task to delve into the lives of these people, and find out the number of casual (or blatant) racist things they have said over the years. There is a real lack of ability for footy fans to turn the mirror onto themselves. People in generally really.

The dude was suspended for racially vilifying someone. I'm not sure why the club think it's appropriate to be celebrate him returning like he's been out injured or something.

Would you think it would be OK if West Coast went "woo woo, Gaff is back!" after he broke Andrew Brayshaws jaw?

Yep

Surely this was time for a quiet in on the team sheet with no fanfare, simply listed with the other changes at 6pm on Friday

Broadcasting it / celebrating it just acts as a lightning rod for those who thought he got off lightly

I did wonder if the Showdown was deliberately scheduled inside the first three rounds

Where the **** did they say that? They just implied it’s cool to have him back, which it is. He’s a legend of our club and his return is important for our team. The media asked a question to one of our coaches and he confirmed that Tex was back in, seems like news worth sharing to me. Any reason why those up in arms about this announcement on Twitter haven’t said anything about the Hawks and Rioli?

Also, Tex didn’t send out the Tweet, the club did, yet from what I’ve seen people are attacking Tex for it and saying he hasn’t learned his lesson etc, crap like that.

If the Hawks were posting tweets implying "it's cool that Jeff Kennett is back" then yea, there would be people up in arms about that.

He doesn't deserve any sort of special treatment at the moment of which they're clearly giving him announcing 2 days before that he's in the team and implying it's "cool" on Twitter.

Club shouldn't have posted it. Just name him in the squad. OR, at least acknowledge the things that he has done in his six week suspension that shows he's been dealing with the issue at hand.

Those fckwits only want to cancel him because they're pooping their pants knowing he's likely gonna rip their team a new one. These virtue signallers can GAGF and SMD.

Standard Twitter response.

Disagree.

I like the way the club got it out of the way early.

Get the news out there and let all the nuffies on both side discuss it. Nationally, its already old news and will be mostly forgotten by Saturday.

Until he plays and then it will be in the intro and highlighted every time he’s booed but that’s inevitable

Sure the Tex booing/furore will peak and likely disappear.

However "It" is that our club is showing insensitivity towards racism, seen to be celebrating a player returning from a suspension for racism. Just a tone deaf action from the club.

People are being a bit harsh on Billy, Marshall got goals from a 50 that wasn't Billy's fault, and a throw in the goal square when Billy was on Geordiades at the time and Doedee was actually on Marshall. Billy was only beaten twice and that was because there was zero pressure from midfield, no defender would have been able to contend with those two entries.

He's only just started his defensive career, I'll take Billy's ability with ball in hand over a turnover merchant. If it means every now and then he gets beaten on a lead.

The first quarter he took a ripping defensive contested mark.

#teamframpton
Watching from the Riverbank Stand and seeing the defenders at work, I have to agree with this assessment. Frampton looking better than Murray and McAsey as a defender.

Reports on Borlase from SANFL have also been encouraging so I think it's time to revisit Murray and/or McAsey as forwards in the SANFL.

Frampton looked completely inept one-on-one defending. Marshall got away from him with absolute ease. We're lucky Port are an average team in poor form.

Where he looked good was with some intercept stuff and his ball use by foot

If I was coaching against the Crows I'd try to isolate Billy one out in the 50 as often as possible.
