Sure the Tex booing/furore will peak and likely disappear.

However "It" is that our club is showing insensitivity towards racism, seen to be celebrating a player returning from a suspension for racism. Just a tone deaf action from the club.
And yet if the club had quietly named him in the side without some kind of acknowledgment, or worse, left it until next week for a home game, it would have been accused of trying to sneak him in the back door and hide him from scrutiny.

You know I'm right.

Surely this was time for a quiet in on the team sheet with no fanfare, simply listed with the other changes at 6pm on Friday

Broadcasting it / celebrating it just acts as a lightning rod for those who thought he got off lightly

I did wonder if the Showdown was deliberately scheduled inside the first three rounds
Yep bit of an error by our social media guy

Memo for commentators this weekend.

Every time Tex touches the ball, they need to make reference to him being a massive racist.

Every time Tex is not involved in the play, the commentators need to remark that he’s probably doing something racist.
We'll have to hear about how he sleeps nude in an oxygen tent, which he believes gives him sexual powers.

Anyone else recall what happened last time we took an inexperienced forward line to face Essendon at Marvel?

We kicked 2.9. Our lowest score ever.

Thilthorpe - 11 games
Murphy - 53 games
McHenry - 23 games
Rowe - 16 games
Pedlar - 2 games
Davis - 3 games

Tex has to come back in for mine.
I was at that game with half a dozen bombers mates.... terrible decision. We were so bad.

The club and Tex were never going to announce his return to playing again in any way that would stop people from getting on their soapboxes. Yes, what he said was wrong. Has he learnt from it? Let's hope so. Will those that have negativity towards Tex every stop bringing it up? Probably not. Lots of opposition supporters never had a good thing to say about Tex before the incident, they sure as hell won't now.

I bet the AFL has suggested to commentators not to mention it.

Bringing it up is not just a slur on Tex, but the league as a whole.

So he had a poor first half - so he should have spent a week in the SANFL? Is that your thinking?

Dawson was instrumental in our 3rd quarter comeback.

Same as Murphy - had a stellar second half - should we have brought him back through the 2's? Hadn't played a game since August of last year.

And the key difference here, is that these players still performed coming off an injury.

The point is quite simple. Tex is in great shape, didn't miss through injury, has had 6 months to get fit and is coming off a very very good season last year. This isn't somebody who hasn't played much footy over the past two seasons. He knew he wouldn't be eligible to play until round 4 so you would imagine the fitness staff and club has planned accordingly. He has played 220 games, so I doubt missing the first 3 is a major calamity.

Personally considering he is replacing FOG who has been terrible, I just can't see any reason to give him a week in the SANFL? He automatically makes us a better side, his leadership is crucial to the youngest side in the competition and he is perfectly fit.
If fog was shooting the lights out and they looked like they wouldn’t benefit from any leadership up there well and good

But we are talking about a guy who’s had 1 acceptable game ( round 1 ) out of 5 including practice games

Is basically giving away free kicks for fun in marking contests and having a net negative effect on the team given all the things he’s not providing

It's a situation of damned if you do and damned if you don't
It's no big deal

Milera's selection was a reward for the hard work he'd done in his injury rehabilitation. He hadn't played in 2 years, so they wanted to reward him for his hard work over that time. They knew he was underdone when they selected him, they didn't need the game to tell them that.

This is in the top five most deluded things you’ve ever written, and that’s quite a feat.

Frampton looked completely inept one-on-one defending. Marshall got away from him with absolute ease. We're lucky Port are an average team in poor form.

Where he looked good was with some intercept stuff and his ball use by foot

If I was coaching against the Crows I'd try to isolate Billy one out in the 50 as often as possible.
Yep agree his strength is his offence as a defender not his actual defending

In some sort of miracle maybe he could end up 70% as good as Liam Jones but doubt it

The dude was suspended for racially vilifying someone. I'm not sure why the club think it's appropriate to be celebrate him returning like he's been out injured or something.
Too harsh, by far. What he said does not undo, cancel or nullify his record as a great player for the Crows.

Tex:
--- accepted responsibility
--- took the punishment on the chin and
--- has done his time.
I'm in NSW right now, but if I was at the game, as soon as I saw him on the ground I'd start cheering.

(Edit: the Tex/Gaff incidents are not comparable)

Keays, easily.

Keaysy has made a mockery of all those people on here saying he 'wasn't good enough'. The bloke is actually really ****ing good and pretty dynamic. He is literally non stop and will likely be in our midfield for at least another 4-5 years.
