Where did you get this from?

Agreed. Tackle pressure is good but if your small forward can kick a few goals that puts even more pressure on defence because they actually have to defend!!

And as you point - 2.7 tackles per game is pretty solid anyway

Can’t win footy games without forward half pressure

Sometimes it’s tackle numbers , other times it’s just pressure too rush opposition

Defence and offence are both equally important

Can’t win games without kicking goals and can’t win games without slowing ball movement from teams half back lines to prevent easy goals

Don’t understand people that don’t get this .. the yin and Yang of football

Who you taking out of defence from last week?
Smith - if it was based on the first 3 quarters. There was one goal in particular where his opponent, I think it was Lachlan Jones, waltzed into an open goal whilst Smith was ball watching about 30 metres away at half forward. The quick kick came out to the top of the square, and Smith was nowhere to be seen. Pretty horrible mistake for someone with his experience - completely lost his opponent, and this seems to be a regular occurrence.

Anyone tell me how Hately went in the SANFL? Stats wise looked ok, Why replace Berry - Inside Tackling machine with Shoenburg who everyone says is not defensive enough. If Hately has shown anything how about playing him in his natural position ala Berrys role and see how he go's not forward or wing
Schoenberg was far better than Hately.

Butts is definitely hampered and a bit down on form and confidence..

But some of those poor defensive efforts of our guys not getting back to fill those massive holes that Dixon was able to lead into were just ridiculous..

Ridiculous because they werent on occasions of fast plays coming in.. they came mostly from a port player up field taking a mark.. going back, taking their time and sizing up their options and then spotting up a leading Dixon..

There was an eternity for those holes to be filled and our players failed to do so.. that makes the life of our KPDs like butts and murray bloody hard..
I can't remember for sure which quarter it was --- they were kicking S, so maybe the third? --- but I think Wines had taken a mark. Our KPDs had manned up.
The camera shot from the N end showed a hole about 30m long and 20m wide, right in front of the kickout square.
I actually said aloud to the TV, with complete futility,
"C'mon somebody, fill up that hole!".

Wines even had enough time to nod and gesture to Dixon who led into that mini-oval of space under NO pressure and got the ball lace-out.

You and others are right. Our KPDs defending is made harder by lazy mids who won't run back to plug holes like that.
That's on the players but the Coaches have got to remind them.

(For those who want Schoenberg to return on the back of a game running around witches' hats (Port were awful), he won't help out back there at all. Carlton's midfield is strong and will leave him in their dust. Keep him in the SANFL until he shows emphatically that he's prepared to run both ways and not just walk/jog around when the opposition has the ball)

Probably Unpopular but I wouldn't mind giving Hately another chance, especially if Berry is out.
I'm far from a Hately fan but he should be considered in front of Brown this week if only for the reason we need to see if he's got it as an inside misfielder or quickly move on. He's basically playing for his AFL career this season so you would think he'd go hard and give it all he's got. He's really not proven to be versatile at AFL level so it's midfield or bust for him IMO.

I would play Brown in front of Hately

Hately gets more of the ball however Brown is more effective IMO

Has Tyler Brown hit a target by foot since he joined us?, kicking again was poor on the weekend past in the SANFL and bearing in mind he went ay 62% Disposal efficiency from a handball happy 26 disposals, 7 kicks, 19 handballs so even his handballs weren't always on target. The word was kicking was one of his strengths but we've not seen any of that yet.

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks has praised the club’s depth as the best in his four years at West Lakes.
The Crows had four AFL regulars – forward Darcy Fogarty (knee), high flyer Shane McAdam (suspension), defender Josh Worrell (hamstring) and half-back Patty Parnell (concussion) – missing in the Showdown on Saturday night, yet still prevailed by 31 points.

None of that quartet will be back for Saturday’s home game against Fremantle, while hard nut Luke Pedlar will also be sidelined due to a one-game rough conduct ban.

But with the Crows’ SANFL side thumping Port Adelaide by 78 points in round 1, Nicks said the players knocking on the selection door were able to fill the void.

“Our squad is as strong as it’s been since I’ve been at the club,” Nicks said.

“Our SANFL performances at the moment have been consistent and at a very high level, and we’ve got a lot of players who are hand-up ready saying ‘I can play AFL level if you need’.

“Even with a few guys out for different reasons … we’ve got guys coming in who are in good form.

“That’s the sign of a strong squad.”

Key defender Jordon Butts and midfielder Sam Berry did not train but Nicks was pretty confident both would be available to face the Dockers.

The club’s five-day break ahead of the Gather Round clash with Carlton, Berry being down on form and Pedlar’s absence are among the selection discussions this week.

Nicks floated Ned McHenry, who registered 21 disposals and two goals in the reserves on Saturday, as a candidate to replace Pedlar.

Midfielder Harry Schoenberg (34 possessions, three majors) is another contender.

Fogarty is recovering from a medial strain and will now be eyeing a return in the club’s Gather Round clash with Carlton next Thursday.

He jogged along the sidelines at training on Wednesday with his knee heavily strapped.

“It’s going to be one we err on the conservative,” Nicks said.

“He’s progressing well, there’s just no risk.”

Parnell will be available to face the Blues.

Nicks said the Showdown triumph, which took the Crows to a 1-2 record, helped reinforce the club’s belief it was on the right track.

But he was mindful that it was only one win and the team needed to string victories together.

“There’s no doubt the outcomes pile up and the noise becomes deafening from outside but internally we knew we were doing a lot of things right,” he said.

“So as a coach I do smile after those because I know we come out of it with more positive moment
um.”

A Father-Son is cut by Collingwood for a reason, he wasn't AFL standard. A cheap throw of the dice by us but I don't expect it to be a winning throw

Nicksy… Back to the old shitfilled well that is Ned Mchenry..

Its just so boringly predictable..

Why dont you ring up Rowe Nicks?.. see if you can organise to bring him back too you dickhead.

Ned has played dozens of games and barely any of them really good..

I dont reacon I’ve ever seen another player expel so much energy on a football field for so little a return as Ned Mchenry… maybe Ben Keays?..

Just give someone else a chance.. Ned has been granted enough games for us to all know he’s not an AFL standard player. The only reason they are persisting with him is because they used a high pick on him.. if he’d been a third rounder they wouldve delisted him by now.

I expect it'll be something like Pedlar and Berry OUT, Crouch and McHenry IN.
I think Mchenry is a lock to come in for Pedlar

If Berry is out they could go with Brown, he seemed to be the preferred option of the next group of mids in the SANFL with his inclusion in the pre season games and being the sub for round 1.

Chayce will be a high chance to come in, very hard to see him being sub 2 weeks in a row, especially after playing well in the last 1.5 quarters when game was on the line.

Yes good point, they could go with Jones in for Pedlar and then Mchenry in if Berry doesn't come up. Ned may also be the sub if he isn't in the first 22

Jones and Pedlar play different roles, it’s McHenry for Pedlar. Given Jones can’t play midfield, if Berry misses, to keep Jones in the team they will need a reshuffle. So possibly Sloane to the middle and Jones wing.

But the less disruptive will be Schoenberg in, Jones sub. 2 weeks in a row as sub now isn’t the same as when it was medical sub, they can still give Jones decent game time. O’Brien has been Carlton’s sub for the first 3 games.

That makes the most sense to me, clearly Jones is ahead of Ned based on last weeks selections. Only way I see Ned playing is if Berry also misses, otherwise he is sub. I would have personally gone with Schoey, but it doesn’t seem like he’s coming in.

Sounds like Berry out. VB on AA suggested they will give him till end of week. Never good when that is said.

Fog back against Carlton.
