I might be in the minority but when I see Varcoe as an inclusion it's pretty much meh these days.

His form last season was nothing different from what prompted Geelong to put him in on the trade table IMO.

If he continues to be played forward he must hit the scoreboard far more often.
I agree it's time to put him in the Josh Smith role and see if it works

Jesus. Outside of their top 6 players, their side looks extremely thin. I wanna back us at 3.50 but im worried we'll slip to their level like last week.
This has been a problem for two years. Our younger players relax on "gimme Games" There are none. There never will be. Playing what for all intents and purposes was the best performed side last year should never be viewed as easy. Yes, Sydney look a little light on, but any team that has Kennedy, Parker, Jack and Buddy scares the living daylights out of me. Anyone of those 4 could sink us by themselves. That said, on paper at least, we seem to bat a little deeper right now. It's at the SCG - gives them a 2 goal advantage. Longmire has visited the umpires this week - add another 2. Can our mid-range depth make up for this? Can our top tier - Pendles, Treloar, Sidey, Grundy and possibly Moore match the output of Sydney's big guns?
I'm betting yes to both questions, but I won't be putting the house on it.

No, not even close...
Exactly.

"better than Broomhead has ever played at even VFL level."

I hope you don't mind me reminding you of a certain game against Coburg in 2015.

Broomhead. 19 kicks. 22 handballs. 7 tackles. 3 goals. 3 behinds.

If he turned those three behinds into two or three extra goals then he possibly played the greatest VFL game of all time.

Are Swans going through a rebuild? Never heard of half of them. Did some injury plague strike?

Pies by 10 goals plus.

Lose this and questions seriously need to be asked.
2 more this week, to go with 3 in the first two rounds, and 7 last year.

I haven't seen half of these guys either!

We now have 12 players with less than 30 games I think:drunk:

If you're looking to avenge the 80 point loss last year, this looks like the game.

Oh well, it's nice to see the kids get a run...

The infatuation on this forum for players like Broomhead and Sharenberg is ridiculous. He had a crap game last week, he has maybe played 1 or 2 AFL standard games while he has been at the club. So overrated its borderline insanity. You realise he would probably fetch a 4th rounder at best from another club? He seems to only be rated by Collingwood fans and no one else.

Ben Crocker comes out in the 2's, kicks 3, takes some great marks, has a quality game, better than Broomhead has ever played at even VFL level, yet we have morons who for some reason think a bloke who played like trash last weekend deserves a spot over him.

The same people who call for Buck's head when he picks Blair every week are the same ones calling people idiots who suggest a bloke like Broomhead didnt earn his spot.

People seem to forget he has been on our list for FOUR years and has done nothing.

Yes.... Due to injury mostly. A fully fit Broomhead would have best 22 for quite some time. Last week's game was far from crap. You're indulging with adjectives. Quiet? Yes. Classy? Yes! Showed signs of his silky skills? Yes, yes, yes! But let's give him zero f**** chance to cement himself after years of perseverance and dedication to the club and throw in a player (who is not even the same type of Player mind you) with a 5th of his natural talent. Please don't apply for a job on our selection committee. You won't get it.

What position is Aish suited to?

Imo he's not a wingman, not a forward..

Half back or inside mid!?

I'd play him in one of these roles.
Also needs to ditch the long sleeve jumper.

Seems like a lot of people have got their wish.

Blair out, smells a bit of appeasing the crowd. Not saying that is wrong, it's time, just that it sounds like what we did towards the end of a season a few years ago. Match committee by medija.

Aish, fair enough he's cod ordinary with no go. We overpaid, Hine has to answer for this one.

Give this guy an award please.

Sharenberg was a pick 50 no one would expect him to be on the list next year.
That may be so.

But generally these days the early draft picks are deemed valuable because the recruiters are much more likely to be on the money with their picks.

Regardless of us being the club taking Matt, he was highly sought after as a junior.

That is no guarantee eg will be A grade talent. However his junior Promise has been hurt by injury.
It happens, but according to all reports his work ethic is incredible, great attitude, smart level headed guy (read doesn't play with his dog near pubs or night clubs or door handles) so he's worth persevering with.
Hence is regarded better than a pick 50 who would more likely be far less naturally talented.

He may well end up a bust but would you give him one game to prove himself or a minimum of say 20?

Lets see if we can pick which one of these two stat comparisons is the new whipping boy of Collingwood, James Aish, and the weekly lock that is Tim Broomhead. To help you out i threw in the player ages:

Player A (23 years old):

  • 2017: Disposals - 12.0, Marks - 1.0, Tackles - 2.0
  • 2016: Disposals - 8.0, Marks - 1.5, Tackles - 1.5
  • 2015: Disposals - 14.6, Marks - 1.4, Tackles - 3.6
  • 2014: Disposals - 12.9, Marks - 2.6, Tackles - 2.4
Player B (21 years old):
  • 2017: Disposals - 16.0, Marks - 2.0, Tackles - 5.0
  • 2016: Disposals - 15.8, Marks - 2.8, Tackles - 2.8
  • 2015: Disposals - 14.3, Marks - 2.2, Tackles - 2.6
  • 2014: Disposals - 17.6, Marks - 4.5, Tackles - 3.7
If you remove the names, which bloke would you be investing games into for future returns?

Weekly lock? Please... You're not actually that dumb are you? You're the one wanting a player out after one game who is coming back from a lengthy injury spell. This is not a player gifted weeks and weeks of crap games.... This is a former #20 who shows elite class and is at a mature age to either shine or bust. Give him a break ffs.

Ps weren't you campaigning for Ben Crocker? Where does Aish fit into this?

Man that Sydney side is inexperienced.

By my reckoning 12 of there 22 will have played less than 40 games including 7 with less than 10.

Our numbers are 7 with less than 40 including 1 under 10.

I've gone from hoping for an unexpected win to feeling disappointed if we don't.

Sydney:
0-10 games 7
11-20 games 2
21-30 games 2
31-40 games 1

Collingwood:
0-10 games 1
11-20 games 1
21-30 games 3
31-40 games 2

Of course you haven't. Have you seen that new Bud Franklins guy?
