Who is available to come in?

Need a few to play well for Peel.

Bolton, maybe Walters, Voss, plus maybe Erasmus or Fyfe to come in.

Erasmus in the middle must help.

NEED a midfielder to come in. If Fyfe is ready it’s probably him, otherwise whoever plays better out of Erasmus and Brodie. I’d even consider Aish. We know however the last three as good as blacklisted so it’ll be Fyfe or nothing.

Voss NEEDS to come in for Reidy.

Don’t know if I’ve ever seen worse use of depth than what we’ve done over the last 2-3 years tbh. IMO we’ve got around 28-30 very capable footballers on our list but JL seems to have blacklisted 2-3 of the, in favour of ‘footballers’ that offer very little to team whatsoever. 5-6 of those 28-30 are out atm but playing guys like Reidy and Worner makes it look like we playing 2-3 short. Banfield I’ll give a little leeway with as he’s at least played good games here and there and it’s not like there’s many other forwards available.

Just watch them drop Chapman back to the WAFL to get more minutes btw.

I don't think Erasmus brings the clean hands to dial back the poor handballs OR turn the poor handballs into positive ball movement for us.

Think of Serong and Reid's sticky hands that can take the ball at full stretch behind them and use it.

We can't bring Erasmus into a team like this. He'll slow us down even more. Needs to be Fyfe if he's ready. Brodie is nowhere near it. Aish isn't a big enough body. Our depth is really quite poor.

Think our biggest problem is how bad the skills are off the back line. Walker Wagner Pearce worner are horrible kicks. Ryan has no penetration he just goes long or sideways every single time. Cox is to casual with his skilll and Clark is probs our best even he’s prone to dumb errors.
We desperately need elite kicks off the half back line

True. If we are not winning the clearances, we need that quick transition off the backline to score. Too many times the defense chip mark the ball with their first instinct is not play on. They then kick it laterally, which either misses the mark or kicked it to the oppo for a goal. If they do happen to play on they do one too many handballs or kick it straight to oppo

Didn’t watch it after the reaming we were getting on all 50/50 calls in the first quarter but genuine question - would you put Treacy into the ruck v Swans and bring Voss in for Reidy? Swans rucks are pretty thin as well.
Voss can second ruck, easy question.

I think Fremantle had more mistakes, unforced errors, in the first part of the third term than the Cats did the entire game. I'm including missed targets, missed handballs, choosing the wrong option etc etc.
It’s time to select pose, skills and decision making over athletes.

Too many players who shit the bed.

He can, doesn’t mean he should.

I’m not sure bringing in another tall really helps that much. And if we insist on playing all 4 tall defenders (plus Chapman) then one of them should be taking the 5 minutes in the ruck. Between Cox, Draper (and Treacy if he needs a run up the ground) we should manage.

Full disclaimer, I only saw half the game. So I won’t pass judgement on Reidy. Just on what I saw, I don’t think Voss over Reidy would have changed much. I’d rather the extra run.

The worst thing with this is that we knew months ago we weren't going to have young and fyfe. To go into round 1 not prepared for that and picking 9 defenders just looks inexcusable.

Spot on.

Brodie will never be a star but should have been in the 26 man team that played against Melbourne a fortnight ago with the opportunity to force his way into today's 23.

Erasmus ships the bed under pressure, would have been a liability in the first half today.

Reidy was playing second ruck. Jackson had double the ruck contests. With Voss it would be the same but he’d offer more around the ground.

If you want extra run you still drop Reidy and replace him with someone else.

The use of that depth is waaaaay poorer than the depth itself.

Honestly what does Worner add when we’ve already got eight defenders in the team?

Time to focus less on hitting milestones (or whatever they call it) and more on whether the said player can actually play the role required. Our midfield was thin today and whoever was the best fit out of Erasmus, Brodie, Aish and Worner should’ve been picked. I’ve left Worner in there because that’s somehow who they decided to go with. To me it seems they just rewarded Worner’s hard work over the pre season despite him being nothing like the player we needed today.

Likewise if you’re going to use Jackson as the No.1 ruck you’ve got to ask why Reidy is even in the team.

Yeah that’s what I’m saying, I do tend to ramble though. If we drop Reidy, do it to get more run in.

It doesn’t have to be a case of well Voss is tall, so I guess he’s the next option. We have enough talls capable of doing it already.

Always a fun board after a loss.
