Hampton with 10 tackles. He's not moving. I'd rather him get caught holding the ball trying to create than constantly waiting on the perifery for easy possessions. Give the bloke some time.

I got the impression that Pyke was willing to back him in during the press conference.

I mean, the guy's a relentless tackler - I'd persist with him for sure.

He also has got some nice moves. Can make himself some room with a side step. But the best thing he brings is his pace. Our midfield looks really quick with him, CC, Milera, Knight, Atkins, Mackay. Hampton does need to get more of the ball and do more damage with his possessions. But he is developing into this new role. It will take time and he is fortunate in the short term that he will probably be given that. But he has to make the most of Crouch's absence. I really think that he is going to be fighting it out with Douglas for that 4th inside player role. I would say its 1-1 after 2 rounds.

Lot of people are saying Menzel for JJ. Who is going to ruck? Surely it has to be Dear to come in.
When we have quality on the fringe I think you reshuffle to accomodate a best 22 unless it is unworkable.

Those same people have Otten as staying in. He was relief today and went ok. Port have Trengove as back-up so its not like he would get outsized.

If JJ was out for 4-6 then you could argue that we would be undersized at times and Jacobs carry too much workload. Even then id have Jacobs ruck essentially solo with those short chop outs and eye off an easier game either in that period or soon after to rest him and play O'Brien (Gold Coast in 3 weeks probably the only realistic chance to do that) to rebalance that workload.

Can see why Hampton has the nickname "WTF", give him another ten games in the middle and he'll be chopping everyone up, he's playing within his limits currently, wait until he gets into the groove and up to speed. He's barely played 1s in two years don't forget.

Wait on jj before have him as an out

If JJ is in then it makes things interesting.

Kelly needs to be an out and Level needs to be an in. Dint think its that simple though as those changes leave us oversized down back so I think Otten and Kelly would be out for Lever and ??

Maybe still menzel, maybe greenwood, wing, whoever but either way it won't be a like for like defender but the same reshuffle that the proposed Kelly/JJ for Lever/Menzel would have to see happen.

Best second half ever. A first half of 4 disposals is classic Mackay.

Would his second half only today be better than any other full game though that he has played? I cant recall a match where he had turned the game on its head for the entire game.

He helped win it, so it's hard to argue. His 2009 semi against Collingwood was the one that made everyone go "This guy is only 21? He's going to be great". But we lost.

IN: Lever, Menzel
OUT: Jenkins (injury), Kelly

B: Brown, Hartigan, Lever
HB: Smith, Talia, Laird
C: Milera, Crouch, Atkins
HF: Lynch, Walker, Cameron
F: Betts, McGovern, Menzel
R: Jacobs, Sloane, Douglas
I: Hampton, Otten, Knight, Mackay

Otten takes Jenkins role as a forward/ruckman & can go back too at times.

We rotate midfielders through HBF as 7th rotational defender.

So at this early stage with JJ presumed out, id go with -

OUT

Jenkins - injured
Kelly - not good enough.

IN

Menzel - unlucky to be dropped
Lever - deserves his spot back, Otto to ruck/fwd.

Wouldn't be unhappy to see any number of youngsters get a run, Wigg, Dear, Poholke whoever.

But if Jacobs goes down during the game we would be in trouble. I just think that we need to go like for like with JJ. I would definitely be looking to Dear. Didnt have a great JLT or trials by looking at his numbers, but I don't think you can tell too much from those games. Having said that I would love to see Menzel get another game. Thought he was very unlucky to miss.

That's a fair point but is it a risk worth taking
