The Western Bulldogs have made one change ahead of a Friday night clash against Essendon at Marvel Stadium.

Youngster James O’Donnell comes in for his first game of the 2024 season, while Caleb Daniel has been omitted.

O’Donnell has been named on the bench alongside Ryley Sanders, Bailey Dale, Lachie Bramble and Jack Macrae.

A sub will be named one hour before the bounce.

The clash will also mark Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s 50th game in red, white and blue, having kicked 66 goals so far in his career.

Daniel, Rory Lobb and Riley Garcia are the emergencies for the fixture.

The game will be live on Channel 7, Kayo and Fox Footy with the bounce set for 7.40pm under the roof.

Like to see JOD back, a necessary move. Defense was just to small. Think with Jones, JOD, Khamis, Richards and then three smaller defenders is a really good mix.

A little weird that two weeks in a row that a defender has come in and no defender has come out. Probably signifies that Williams will be pushed up the ground. An understandable decision but thought the games against the Suns and Eagles (the easy beats to be fair) where he got moved back to defense were the best and most natural he has looked for years.

Was sort of expecting a defender to go out and then a Poulter or Garcia type to come in as the sub. Not sure who I'd choose for sub from that 23. Maybe Bramble but I've been impressed by him so far, even though last week was a struggle

Well, we asked for rockets to be put up the team after last year's end to the season garbage so I'm fine with it. Everyone should be on edge. Perform or you're out. No exceptions and Beveridge needs to be consistent with that now.

Maybe. It does seem like Daniel and Macrae are the only two in the firing line and have been since preseason
