Potentially could be a few big ins for our game against the Blues in a fortnight, including Rockliff, Patfull, Mayes, Maguire and other available guys such as Moloney, Harwood and Martin.

Will be interesting to see which players will be omitted or rested considering so many were well below par yesterday.

Whilst it is highly unlikely we would make 7 changes, I think the selection of all those I mentioned would drastically change the matureness of the team, although I am not sure if brining in Martin would make us too top heavy, particularly if Maguire and Merrett were to resume their normal key defensive posts.

I would like to see Martin tried in the back up ruck/resting forward role, obviously once he acquires match fitness. He is 28 yrs old and Lord knows we need a senior player to stand up.

Would definitely keep Close after his two goals and maybe drop Paine depending on how the blues line up. Apart from that I'd like us to bring in some experience but only so long as they have earned their call up. I would rather see us lose playing young guys than playing older guys reaching the end of their careers.

Two weeks is a long time in AFL, let's hope the boys have a well earned break and the seniors prepare to step it up. If we use this time wisely we can put a team on field that will maul the Blues. Need to have that want, will and drive and we have two weeks to get there. I have faith we can do it!

IN : Rockliff, Maguire, Patfull, Martin, Mayes

Out : Robertson, Paine, Raines, Lisle, Gardiner

Adcock - Maguire - Clarke
Golby - Patfull - Hanley
Aish - Rockliff - Zorko
Paparone - Brown - Martin
Green - Close - Taylor
West - Redden - Lester

Cutler - Merrett - Mayes

Beams

Named in the best too I see.

As much as I have never been a big fan of Martin, I would however like to see how he goes again and no doubt he will be afforded the opportunity to determine if he is a viable option moving forward. Martin's inclusion, be it next week or whenever it may be should then allow us to leave West forward for longer periods. The aspect of West's game that has particularly impressed has been his contested marking and in tandem with Martin, we may finally be able to have that tall resting ruckman forward as opposed to the bench which West has been doing considering he is rucking for three quarters of a game.

IN: Rockliff, Patfull, Mayes, Harwood, Moloney, Maguire
OUT: Lisle, Robertson, Close, Gardiner, Raines, Cutler

B: Patfull Maguire Harwood
HB: Golby Clarke Adcock
C: Aish Rockliff Hanley
HF: Mayes Brown Zorko
F: Green Merrett Paine
Foll: West Redden Moloney
Bench: Taylor, Beams, Paparone, Lester

Bit harsh on the kids but I wanna win. Raines gets dropped because they don't want him to tag.

A tad to early for me to predict any changes but I would like Maguire to come back in for Lisle. Patfull in for Paine(Close to stay in instead of Paine). Rockliff and Mayes also need to return, probably in place of Raines and Golby. It will be interesting if players like Moloney, Martin, and Harwood also get a look in.

If Martin is deemed fit by time of selection and with goose available for selection, I would personally drop BIG Sauce Merrett, he was terrible on sat arvo and is very shaky with the ball comming out of defensive 50. And as part of leppas game plan which involves swithcing the ball alot more across halfback we need all our defenders to be reliable kicks.
Now I understand he could of possibly be suffering the effects of gastro, BUT I feel goose would be a better option at this stage....IT wont happen BUT hey ...
I would also keep Close in the team for a extended period up to 8 weeks, He showed some great signs on the weekend, pretty sure he has just signed on for another 3 years, so club obviously see him as part of the future, so would be good for him to get a good run, get him use to the other senior plays and get them use to him, eg where he leads etc...

I have mentioned it before, BUT, another opposition player racking up over 35 touches against us. SERIOUSLY. I fully understand that leppa is not going to play a designated TAGGER, Personally i would play raines and play him as a pure tagger,he did a great job of it last year against some of the games best

Will be interesting team selection next round. Personally I think there's been a bit of double talk from Leppa on team selection. He has been happy to say we have to play the kids because we have nobody else, but at the same time guys like Maloney, McGuire, Harwood etc have been playing reserves. At one stage he even said the cupboard is bare and I might have to pull a guernsey back on myself. Which I think is a little disrespectful to guys like McGuire and Harwood. With guys coming back from injury will be interesting to see which way he goes.

Out: Robo (rest), lisle, Raines
In: Rockcliff, patfull, McGuire

Merrett plays the ruck/forward role.

Why would Robbo need a rest after the bye?

I feel if Raines stays in the side to face Carlton he must tag Murphy, he can shut influential players out of games and yet we aren't utilising that skill. I know Leppa doesn't want 'one dimensional' players but I feel as if we need him to do a job for us week in week out. I was at the game on Saturday and was amazed we hadn't sent Raines to Boomer after 10 minutes in the first quarter.

Out: Lisle, Brown, Gardiner
In: Patful, Mayes, Rockliff

This will be an unpopular opinion but I feel as if we should play the kids ahead of Browny now. Watching him on Saturday I felt sorry for him, he is so slow and almost a liability now as defenders run past him with ease. Put him in the coaches box and get games into Close & Paine and let them learn.

I think there would be a riot at the Gabba.

Don't you feel there's a contradiction in picking Raines to shut down Murphy but not picking Brown because you want to play the kids?

The way I look at it is that next year we will not have Brown, so why not start to moulding our forward line this season instead of the start of next year? I should of been a tad clearer, I didn't mean to shut Browny out completely but If we can have Brown play for 3 weeks and then not play for 5 I'd be happy. It means you have him out on the ground teaching and showing Close & Paine how it should be done but then at the same time also letting them learn on the job against AFL level defenders.

With Raines I don't feel like he would be hindering anyone's development or stopping getting game time into our future mids with a tagging role, or am I wrong there?

I don't disagree with you. But I feel that we need browny out there all the time he is fit. Even if it is his last few games we need him there. I think the only case would be if we had a tom Boyd or Jeremy Cameron type talent and at the moment we don't have that.

No, you're not wrong.

I think it's more that Leppa doesn't regard taggers as part of his long term plan, so the only way there's a future for Raines is if he can develop the aspects of his game that don't involve tagging.

Putting fringe players into the seniors after a LTI and one moderate outing in the reserves is daft.

I agree, which made me pretty bemused about Beams selection. Having said that, there is no point taking Beams out of the team straight away.

On Martin though - you would want to see him back it up a couple of times more in the reserves. The big problem with him is that for him to be in the side, Merrett would have to play back and Maguire would have to come out (or what was once virtually unthinkable - Merrett being dropped).

Otherwise we would be far too tall.
