Here are my changes:

OUT = Lisle, Paine, Close, Robertson, Cutler and Gardiner
IN = Patfull, Bewick, Maguire, Rockliff, Mayes and Harwood

I really seem to have no chance at predicting what Leppa will actually do though, so I am hardly holding my breath. However, I too think we are a chance of beating Carlton if we go with a far more experienced line up (a little harsh on some of the kids, but they have had a very good run so far).

I have to say I am not seeing why we would drop Robertson and Cutler. I think they have both been coming on very nicely and improving every week. After a week off I would expect that to continue.

For me it would be:

Out: Lisle, Raines, Golby, Paine, Close, Gardiner
In: Maguire, Rockliff, Mayes, Harwood, Patfull, O'Brien

The same argument that I had above could be used for Close and Gardiner but I would make the changes I have for team balance purposes. We are too tall and we need to run more and use it better when we have it. O'Brien's ressies form warrants a go and lets face facts the group we have in there atm has not been setting the world on fire so we may as well give him a go. As a mature ager he is likely to be hungry. The team for me would be:

Adcock Maguire Patfull
Harwood Clarke Cutler
Aish Rockliff Hanley
Paparone Merrett Mayes
Green Brown Zorko
West Redden Lester
Taylor, Robertson, Beams, O'Brien

With the reduction in height up forward I would move Mayes back forward and run Paparone a bit closer to 50 as well and let them both know I am expecting at least a couple of goals each.

Yeah I would have thought they look like they could do with a rest at some point but as you said with the bye you'd think they might be right.

I do like the idea of giving O'Brien a chance. Always tough to tell with the NEAFL form when all I see is the stats but he sounds like he is deserving of a go

It seems Leppa will not play more than one genuine inside mid at a time going off the Lester/Moloney situation though. Can O'brien offer us something on the outside?

Finally we get a chance to put a team on the field without too many compromises. It was glaringly obvious that we lacked midfield run and creative forwards against North. Martin if half fit would be a better option than Lisle and gives us the chance to play with two recognised ruckmen but if no Martin then Close should stay in and Merrett to the ruck . I see Beams as our future midfield general. I believe this team will provide plenty of midfield pace and creativity and the half forward line will present Carlton with plenty of worries.
Goose was good on his return and should be welcomed back. Gardiner is unlucky. Golby seems mentally shattered.

We should only not play Brown in games where we're no chance at all, eg; Freo in Perth. Need to play him in as many home games/winnable games tbh.

Not sure why some of you are taking Cutler and Close out. Close was our best tall forwward and had his best game for the club. Cutler is improving each week and getting more confident. I havent seen a lot of run in his previous week but last week he provided run and carry.

In: Mayes, Patfull, McGuire, Rockliff
Out: Lisle, Golby, Robbo, Gardiner

Tough on robbo and gardiner but not sure who comes our for rocky and mayes.

My attempt at our team would be:

Adcock Clarke. Patful
Cutler Goose Hanley
Aish. Rocky. Beams
Papa. Close. Mayes
Green. Brown. Merest
West. Redden Zorko

Gardner, Taylor, Lester
Sub: Golby

I was impressed with Gardner's DE% last week would like to see him more on a hbf so that he can continue to work on that part of his game.

I would like to see Robbo get more game time but I think that big minutes in the reserves midfield may be the best thing for him at the moment rather than limited game time in the seniors.

I think it's time to move past Raines and Brown has earned the right to retire on his terms so if he is fit he plays.

Close had 4 touches bit quiet. Very happy that he got his 2 goals though. Can't drop him when Paine did nothing,

Hi guys.... Long time reader... First time poster.

I see the team as follows:

FB Adcock Clarke Patfull
HB Cutler Goose Harwood
C Hanley Aish Green
HF Zorko Merrett Mayes
FF Taylor Brown Redden
R West Rockcliff Beams
Bench: Lester, Paparone, Martin.
Sub: Close

thoughts:
Green to the middle. He can rest forward and swap with Zorko, Redden and Taylor.
Mayes back to Half Forward. He is simply better there working from the middle Forward.
Redden to FF. Takes a great mark, can kick goals and applies awesome pressure.
Harwood back in. He is young and great last Year . Let him find form. We cant afford him not to play.

Lets see what Close can do 100% flat out for a 1/4

Abit harsh on paine bs21, he had double the possessions of close and brown combined. He just didn't hit the scoreboard. Its hard to judge forwards if they aren't given any chance by the mids/backs as per leppa's post match interview.

I'd be going...

OUT: Gardiner, Brown, Cutler, Lisle, Lester
IN: Rockliff, Patfull, Maguire, Mayes, Maloney

And I'd line em up a bit different...
FB: Payne | Maguire | Adcock (yes, Payne in defence - did anyone see his chase last weekend? actually thought he played alright at the back)
HB: Rockliff | Clark | Mayes (yes, Rockliff at HB - need some more class at the back)
C: Zorko | Hanley | Paperone
HF: Raines | Brown (Merrett) | Patfull (yes, Patfull at HF)
FF: Green| Close | Redden
FOLL: West | Moloney | Golby (yes, Golby on the ball)
INT: Taylor, Robertson, Aish
Sub: Yes, Raines as the sub.

But I'd name Brown, and then sub Merrett in as the emergency....

Close needs a few games without Browny in there.

To be fair on him he played in the backs in the 2nd half.

I'm unsure did you really mean to put Paine and Rocky down back, Patfull at half forward, Golby on the ball and Raines as the sub?

yeah I did... I think it'd work.

I am a huge Browny fan, but his lack of speed is a real issue on rebound...

Have a good watch of the game in reply... it cost us many goals.

Too hard for another forward to stand up with him there.

GILBERT GARDINER’S FORECAST: The bye couldn’t come soon enough for this lot. The young Lions struggled to make any in roads, outplayed from the opening bounce to the final siren. While Tom Rockliff and Joel Patfull were held out with illness, one wonders whether Dayne Zorko and Daniel Merrett had similar problems pre-match. Both failed to impact the contest. The good news is the Lions have three ‘winnable’ games coming up with Carlton, Western Bulldogs and Greater Western Sydney on the horizon. Young forward Michael Close looks a beauty and has the ultimate of role models on Jonathan Brown to learn from.

That looks hideous...although all things being equal, I don't think the designer had much to work with.

I agree it's not spectacular, but you're right, the colours and the big yellow face-lion do make it hard to put anything that combines and blends everything together.
