With 2 weeks or so before our next game i dont see Mckay being rested. Would prefer to see Parish play a half in the VFL.

Demons have small forward line so Reid & Ridley more than enough tall defenders + McKay looks shot mentally (doesn't need physical rest its between the ears with him I think).
Parish, Lav, Setters & Davey all will get a run in the VFL game 11am at the Hanger tmrow so should be right to go against the Dees if required

You think dropping him will help him mentally?.... interesting

I think he turned a little corner second half, got involved in a few chains, I'd be capitalising on that momentum

Demons have the same problem where they bomb it long like us, i can see him having plenty of intercepts like comben which will do a lot for his confidence.

We look much better when Perkins is not in the midfield and I don’t understand why he was in there so much the first two rounds. We’ve seen enough to know he’s not a mid. If he comes back I would hope he plays more forward.
Agreed,

Not only does he impact more, he takes his chances and is a moments type of guy.

If we are actually rebuilding I would like to see one change only.

Out: Shiel
In: Tsatas

What I expect to see

Out: Edwards
In: Parish (Moving Harry Jones forward and SEH to wing with Menzie as sub)

Perkins and Lav can force their way back in via VFL please.

McKay topped the Bombers with 6 intercepts and went at 90%. I would keep him in as a show of confidence right now. He/we turned a corner when Reid went to Georgiades.

Also, ordinarily I would say drop Menzie. And when he missed his set shot, I laughed because it was just typical. But in combination with Gresham and Kako he brought good pressure in the second half. He ended up with 8 score involvements from only 10 touches and 53% time on ground. He actually had a great game by his own measure. 8 SIs is the same as Merrett. Menzie did his job well. He should stay in.

Firstly, the beard not withstanding, Hawaii gave our backline an unmistakeable Nick Blakey element that we haven't seen in a long time. We've been crying out for some run and carry off half back for a few years. We've needed to make our D50 exits more dynamic than chipping sideways or searching for a mark down the line. Some run changed the game at the right moment. I don't see how we turn back from his inclusion now, unless he's not fit enough, but he wouldn't have been selected at all if he weren't. He has to stay in.

Secondly, with the slow Perkins out, we saw Gresham's role as a high half forward reap dividends in combo with Merrett. The pressure they were both able to bring was great, and allowed a guy like Menzie to do more. Pressure smalls combo with Kako is tge go. In the absence of a true FF and Langford, that worked well for us. Maybe Perkins on the bench but I thought we looked so much more agile and dynamic without him.

So that gives us a bit of pace and pressure in both halves of the ground.

McGrath survives to lock down on Kozzie. Ideally he'd be gone and Roberts develops the skill and tenacity to be that player. Then we play both Roberts and SEH in the backline, but for now it remains.

Said elsewhere, we need to know Hobbs' capacity for improvement. Play him on ball for a few full games and let's see how we go. We can shuffle magnets and put Duz back in the middle if he's failing.

Shiel had a great game and is a reason we won, but we know Shiel and we're rebuilding. He'll have his chance to rise to a final occasion on ANZAC Day.

I know I've got Hayes making his debut as sub. Harden the f*** up and drop the sentimental rubbish. It's a top tier comp and it's not the 90s anymore. Ridley has looked off and I still don't trust Reid's body. Hayes is on the list to deploy in ways that suit the team in any way that best supports it.

I'd be looking at a side like this;

OUT: Shiel
IN: Hayes

Team:
McKay Reid McGrath
Redman Ridley Roberts
Duursma Caldwell Durham
Martin Caddy Gresham
Menzie Draper Kako

Bryan Hobbs Merrett

Bench: El Hawli, Jones, Prior, Edwards
SUB: Hayes

SEW played wing 🙂
Durham played midfield 🙂

SEH started his rebound run that ended with a goal from HB. I'm saying I'd play him from there.
I'm putting Duz on a wing.

He started it from the half back location but he actually started the centre bounce as a wing.

So in essence he was the winger who pushed back to help and then attacked from there.

And that worked well so I wouldn't be averse to it.
I'm considering Duz coming into this season already a bit banged up and our need to find out as much as we can about Hobbs' capacity to play a full time on ball role. So, I want El Hawli's run from HB, Duz on a wing and Hobbs in the middle.
Not fussed about whether we win or lose at all, but I do want to know more about how we look with Hobbs and El Hawli in those roles.
