Garbage! Bonner is a good player. He has some Bonnerisms though that need fixing, but he is WAY better than SANFL level. When Burton is fit, Bonner goes out, but he knows the system and is great depth to have available. Only played 42 games, he will get there I reckon....

Other players previously rated "not SANFL level" by Big footy experts:
Amon
McKenzie
Mayes

If I’m a big footy expert what are your credentials good sir?

Westhoff out, obviously for a rest. Knackered over the last 2 weeks. Back in soonish. Georgi replacement is exciting.

Bonner in for Burton is a no-brainer. Defensively not strong, but has weapons and plays aggressively. The hate is misplaced.

Ebert for Motlop no-brainer as well, not that they are equivalent, but both are forwards and Ebert had to come in.

I'm a little surprised that Rozee is playing considering we play the following Thursday.

Problems with the ruck, maybe, particularly since Ladhams doesn't seem to jump.

Ports easily.

It just doesnt add up that the week we choose to rest Westhoff is the week we come up against 2 genuine rucks.

Especially with Ryder being so good at hit outs to advantage against a back up ruck.

Thinking about it I am worried that Charlie might be a late out after he didnt look right at the end of last weeks game and Westhoff might come back in.

Bonner is the most experienced afl defender we have available and he is coming in as a depth 7th man.

Personally Id rather Watts, but its not a big deal.

He has a propensity to be soft and easily distracted. If he didn’t have such a nice leg he’d be your classic SANFL player who coulda/woulda/shoulda. I’d rather see literally anyone else.

I heard that Rozee will need to have a pain killing injection before the game to get him through. If correct, why would they be doing this? Rest him and get him right. There’s no need to risk him at this stage in his career and his form suggests a week or two off would be good for him. We also shouldn’t be playing injured players, this season especially. There are a few players that could fill in until he is right again.

Yep I'm assuming selecting Rozee allows us the flexibility to choose a tall or a small on match day.
This! I'm hoping it's strategic. We would know thst Rozee is out, but we kept him in to get some advantage.

He needs it. I don't think we had much of a choice, tbh.

Bonner again! Jeez...I don't understand the selectors' fixation with this guy, the most unPort-like player in recent memory. I've yet to see his supposed strengths - running, good kicking - materialize in a game except on very rare occasions when there's no pressure on.

Like the structural like-for-like changes, but did Garner disappear off the face of the earth?

He's got a lot of weapons. His kicking on both feet is absolutely top, top notch. His main weakness (the contest) is something that shouldn't be all that hard to improve on. I think the selectors are fixated on what he can become rather than what he actually is right now. If he gets it right ala Amon, he'll become an extremely good player.

Rewatched Q4 PF, 2004 this eve to prepare myself.

St Kilda's Guernsey sponsor for the year was Piping Hot. Now that's low rent.

His poor contested play and lack of physicality haven't improved one iota since he started. I'd like to see him develop in those areas at the lower level (I know there's only scratch matches this year) before getting selected again rather than gifting him undeserved games. I'd be very happy to be proved wrong about him.

Agree. Actually would be disappointed if he plays - just not worth the risk. Planter Fascias are tricky.

can confirm

going on something like 8 ish years of heel pain that has doctors just shaking their heads and saying they don’t know how to treat it.

Has made working on my feet all day very hard, and sports difficult. I’ve had more scans and seen more specialists than I can remember.

I can’t even walk around the house barefoot anymore.

they’re not to be taken lightly. At some point mine was probably just a minor problem as well.

I disagree.

I understand fully why people have an issue with bonner, his effort at times can frustrate but it’s inaccurate to say he hasn’t improved

he was a very soft player with zero defensive capability when drafted.

He’s improved as a defender quite a bit. He now runs much harder and is involved in more contests, he isn’t just sitting back he is in contests

the big issue now has been a lack of concentration.

His effort isn’t consistent and just drops off in moments within games.

I’ve seen him make very good contested efforts within a game then to just fail 10mins later. That failure is what sticks with people and that’s why I can understand people not liking him.

But he has improved his defensive ability.
