His poor contested play and lack of physicality haven't improved one iota since he started. I'd like to see him develop in those areas at the lower level (I know there's only scratch matches this year) before getting selected again rather than gifting him undeserved games. I'd be very happy to be proved wrong about him.
So who should have come in to replace Burton besides Bonner? I assume you have seen the recent form of the other candidates and are confident they are playing better than Bonner?

I was at the crows saints game last week and while Ryder's ruck work at centre bounce and stoppages is still really good, he is absolutely useless around the ground. Can barely move.

I was stunned he got in the coaches votes.

11 hit outs to advantage or something ridiculous goes a long way. Brisbane killed us by winning centre so it is a bit scary. I guess with short quarters and really long breaks after goals Ladhams might be able to do it all himself

Garner is a solid defender but I dont really think he adds much in terms of ball movement, line breaking etc. He is a prototypical shut down small defender. You don't really see many of these types of players anymore.

Bonner is not as good a 1 on 1 defender, but as much as he frustrates me (and many others), there's something there worth persisting with. It he can put it all together we will have a great half black flanker who can break the lines with ease.

My patience is wearing a little thin with him though. If he doesn't put it together soon, he will find himself on the chopping block rather quickly.

I don't think it will matter too much - this week will be all about nullifying the ruck contest, bringing it to ground where Ladhams' ball winning and clearance ability gives us an advantage over the Saints. Dixon's ground ability at stoppages in the F50 will also be invaluable for this.

We'll be setting up to a losing ruck, I doubt we will even entertain the idea of going toe-to-toe with the Saints rucks.

Garner looked great when given chances at afl level but didnt set the world alight in his pre season games this year. Had an opportunity there and didnt grab it.

He is still young and will get his shots.
Bonner didn't take his chance either and yet he has been given another opportunity. Garner has proven that he can play at the level and either he, Leinert or Watts should have been given a chance to impress this week. Long term, Garner is the best option of all of them as he possesses toughness, composure and defensive awareness. Bonner needs to build his confidence and toughen up a the contest if he wants to stay in this team.

Seems like a fairly easy reshuffle to put Mayes in the back 6 and bring in whoever might deserve a run. Anyway, Bonner is getting yet another chance so we'll see if he brings anything useful to the side this time. If he does I'll be as pleased as anyone.

Bonner's lack of defensive effort or impact always seems noticeable to me as an onlooker. Theres times where I expect him to sweep through a contest, pick the ball up and run with it, but he always seems to just float around the territory.

I'm sure if Burton is as hard defensively, but more often seems to have pressure on his kicks, which makes it seem to me he works harder and earns his possessions.

Bonner could definitely be on the trade table this year. If Bergman is being groomed for half back and we select Jones NGA, we appear well set for half backs. Jones has a mans body so can play from the get go and Bergman was our 1st pick so he should get opportunities this year but more likely next.

I get the feeling he's competing with Sutcliffe for a spot and I assume the latter has more points with the coach.

Mayes just showed more for us in one game than Sutcliffe has shown in six.

The Ladhman's ball winning and clearance ability advantage goes away when the Rowan Marshall is the opposing ruckman. Marshall's follow up and around the grounds work is great as well.

Don't think Bonner is our only depth defender.
I would personally would have gone with Watts
Cos we are a bit short in defence
Kicking is elite with Jack
