Hi guys, good to see you flying in 2020, fully expect you to beat us, but think we’ll be competitive for a while and then drop away.

What’s your thoughts on Mayes? Very solid debut for you. Do you think he’ll get a run of games? Asking from a SC perspective. Cheers

He only played 65% TOG, so that’s only ~63 minutes of football (when the games are approximately 96 mins this season). I’m sure he’ll be fine to back up, especially with minimal training.

I thought the same until I saw him being out ran by bulky old white guys last year but he looks in way better shape

Yeah, he doesn’t need to do a lot of running when he’s played mostly as a centre square specialist tap ruckman. He was on fire in this regard against O’Brien last week, that Crows bloke can’t jump at all... Marshall does the around the ground running

Yeah lycett can't jump either but makes him his bitch constantly lol

Gray...... Dixon....... Georgiades
Butters.. Marshall.... Rozee

There is 2/3rds of our forwardline for the next decade.

Keep Westhoff, Ebert and Motlop out of there. They can rotate from the bench with these 6 for the rest of the year.

Bonner again! Jeez...I don't understand the selectors' fixation with this guy, the most unPort-like player in recent memory. I've yet to see his supposed strengths - running, good kicking - materialize in a game except on very rare occasions when there's no pressure on.
Let's hope he pulls an Amon very soon

If he keeps up at the level he played his first game yeah I see him getting a good run.

I disagree.

I understand fully why people have an issue with bonner, his effort at times can frustrate but it’s inaccurate to say he hasn’t improved

he was a very soft player with zero defensive capability when drafted.

He’s improved as a defender quite a bit. He now runs much harder and is involved in more contests, he isn’t just sitting back he is in contests

the big issue now has been a lack of concentration.

His effort isn’t consistent and just drops off in moments within games.

I’ve seen him make very good contested efforts within a game then to just fail 10mins later. That failure is what sticks with people and that’s why I can understand people not liking him.

But he has improved his defensive ability.

If he can do an Amon he could become a very good player.
What concerns me is the opportunity cost of not playing Garner, I don't want Garner to be our next Tom Harley.

"Westhoff is among the emergencies named, along with Tom Rockliff, Joel Garner and Boyd Woodcock."
At least he made it to the emergency list.

happy to see MG back!
would love him to have another excellent game and cement a spot.

Really hoped Lycett would get up though. Not a game im super confident about especially with there two ruck V Ladhams.

Cant see Rozee playing. Woodcock maybe a chance then to debut?

Few really big outs for us.
And it looks on paper a really young team

Bonner is 23 on the cusp of 50 games and highly skilled with question marks over hardness and confidence.

Last year Amon was 23, on the cusp of 50 games yada yada.

No guarantees Bonner makes the leap but you can understand the "do you see where I'm going with this" vibes from the selection table

.... did Garner disappear off the face of the earth?
Named as an emergency.

I really don't understand why Garner hasn't been afforded the same opportunities as Bonner however. Has looked the more ready player to me.
I would have liked to see Garner get a run ahead of Bonner but all in all I'm happy with these changes.

Maybe this season when Hinkley steps out of selection meetings to check on the dishlickers Monty and Schoey are locking the door. :p

I dont love Bonner, but it is reassuring that we go like for like. No bringing in Rocky and shuffling Houston back is a big shift in way we operate.

Who is second ruck though....? Marshall perhaps for 5 or so minutes a qtr. Dixon in forward 50?

Ryder could be a late out depending on the weather?

TJ deserved to wear the bars this week, highest SC points last week, very solid effort.

I was at the crows saints game last week and while Ryder's ruck work at centre bounce and stoppages is still really good, he is absolutely useless around the ground. Can barely move.

I was stunned he got in the coaches votes.

maybe they like bonner for his run and carry, which hasn’t been something I’ve seen as much from Garner. Bonner has a bigger point of difference to what we already have there

though I too am keen to see Garner

I have learnt my lesson with Marshall not to write off anyone who has played more than 20 but less than 50. If they make it to 20 they aren't obvious duds.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more of Garner, seems almost weird that he's not been given games despite the likes of a struggling Bonner and a departing Broadbent playing in his position over the last couple of seasons.

I do think Garner is a bit of a 7/10 across the board type player where the coaches obviously feel that Bonner has a higher ceiling.
