Jut curious, did the AFL make the call about teams having 6 on the bench from Round 9?

Also, if we are having 5 day turn arounds too from R9, could very easily play Ladhams/Lycett every second week, or pick the most effective match up.

Thy have mde it clear that there will be no extended bench, as the shortened quarters have resulted in less injuries so need need to extend the benches.

If Lycett doesn't get up and we drop Hoff for Georgiades, can we risk rucking Marshall in the middle for 20% of the game (when Ladhams is resting)?

He's obviously not a ruck, but perhaps he can do something below his knees when the ball hits the ground.

There’s just way too much to lose from rucking Marshall

1. We lack a forward and go back to the same forward problems as before

2. we get killed in the ruck

3. Marshall gets killed in the ruck. Literally. The big blokes will aim to hurt him.

4. Marshall loses confidence getting killed in the ruck

5. Marshall gets injured

6. dixon has to work up the ground. Gets burnt out like in past or worse, injured.

all that for what benefit? I would rather play a shit 3D westhoff than risk those problems I named.

having said that happy to trial ladhams and lycett ruck combo (but I think that will have its issues as both are 1st rucks)

I think keep westy until lycett is back in..

then trial the two rucks for a week or more

then bring back a rested westhoff at some stage unless the two rucks are working super well

So the alternative is play a bloke who is a liability to save a Kid? If Westhoff is done, then what happens?

Drop the Hoff, Marshall to be the Second Ruck, Watts in for Bonner and MG in for Westy. Bring in another Mid Ebert or Leinart and Houston can always slide back. Could Leinart play as a Wing/2nd Ruck?

Imagine a team with Dixon, Ladhams, Marshall, Watts, Lienart - all being + 195cms. Then having ball users like Hartlet, Farrell, Watts, Lienart all hovering around...

because a carbon rod if it competes in the ruck is more beneficial to us than the negatives of rucking Marshall

I’m all on board dropping westhoff when lycett is fit, but I just don’t want to be rucking Marshall just when he’s fit and firing and the team (specifically the forward line) is firing.

So next week will be 21 vs 25??

I think Ken will be fine with playing Marshall in the ruck for a few minutes but I can't see him going in without the insurance policy of throwing Hoff back if oppo tall forwards get a handle on us.

If Lycett is still out, the opportunity cost of Hoff doing nothing all game outweighs the really marginal benefit of his pretty ordinary ruck chop out capabilities. Only thing of benefit he currently provides is to reduce the risk of injury to Marshall and Dixon who are the only other realistic chop out options. Hard to say which one of those is the lower risk, but surely that's the way you have to go.

If Lycett is in, then Ladhams stays in and Hoff drops out surely. Though I'd love to see Georgiades, Ladhams has to get another game after that effort.

Motlop and Westhoff clearly need a spell, motlop's might be forced with injury but he is an out on form too. Motlop despite a pretty good first few weeks has barely fired a shot in the last 3 or 4 games. Ditto Westhoff.

And you would suspect Burton is an out and is there any word on Rozzee as he had that injury but went back out there but was clearly limping after the game.

Ebert in for Motlop is a no brainer.
Bergmann or Bonner for Burton.
Lycett or Georgiades for Westhoff.

Wasn't there talk last week that Westhoff was going to be rested because he had niggles? Then Lycett dropped out and we kept Westhoff in for his height/second ruck abilities?

I just don't buy the narrative that Westhoff is finished. His game yesterday was beyond deplorable meaning that he must have been injured. He simply didn't get near the ball.

Get Georgiadis in the team for him.

If Lycett is fit also get him in the side. Keep Ladhams to play a kick behind the play/second ruck. Ryder is back in the team this week. Him and especially Max King could prove a problem for our short Key defenders.

Ebert for Burton is a simple swap.

So we've got Hoff, Motlop, Rozee, Dixon, Gray, Burton, Lycett, Drew and Sutcliffe all dealing with some type of minor niggles or injuries.

But the good thing is we've got Ebert, Rockliff, Georgiades, Watts, Bergman, Williams, Hayes, Garner, Bonner, Lienert and Buzza all waiting in the wings.

We bat pretty deep if injuries happen.

If you want to rest Hoff and replace him with a big bloke who can ruck, play Wylie Buzza.

He will terrorise put the frighteners on opposition defenders with his physical approach and protect Marshall. He was noted by Matt Lokan for his game in the seconds trial against the crows on the weekend.

I would probably play Lienert if Burton doesn't come up but I like the idea of Pasini surprising everyone and getting a game. Good intercept mark and distributor of the ball. Monty loves that in his defenders.

I wouldn't mind Woodcock for Motlop, small forward with good goal sense who can run through the midfield.

I like this idea if Lycett is out. Though the use of the word terrorise should surely be banned from this board.

You're right, my bad. Will fix. :D

We have to have a take a no prisoners approach to selection for the rest of the year.

Not a we won, I love these blokes, no changes.

Rozee needs a rest and a rocket. Motlop and Burton probably wont come up. Hoff should be dropped but might survive if Lycett isn't fit.

I think Burton will be a perennial hammy twanger for the rest of his career.

I said last week that playing Mayes will bring lots of enthusiasm for someone expected to make their club debut in the first few rounds last year, to counterbalance another 4am start. Plus he was playing at his old home ground.

So why not look for some more of that enthusiasm. If Marshall and Ryder are going to ruck, pay Ladhams and Hayes if Lycett isn't fit. Give big Lurch a go and watch the players get around him. Hoff gets a rest and a rocket.

If Georgi boy is fit, pick him.

A squad will win the flag this year, not the best 22-25. Put some games into guys that have been putting in, so that come late in the year and if we make finals, they have had a taste of it and are ready to go if injuries and form mean we need to make changes.
