What impressed you about Madden on Friday night? I watched most of the game and apart from a few tackles I didn’t really notice much from him at all. What I did take out of the game is Ah Chee is way too good for that level and Tom Berry isn’t far off demanding multiple games at the top level. Payne was also excellent!

yeah, watched the game today. i loved the use of madden in play not as a tight lockdown defender. we all know he can tackle but his sprinting with the ball, marking and delivery have improved. whole heartedly agree with you on your other points but i really want to get payne into the ruck or onto a wing or somewhere where he has to play with constant intensity not the on, off play as a key defender.

I'd be curious to see whether we'd consider Lohmann though if he was fit. We did seem to want to get him straight into the senior team earlier in the year.

Sounds like there may be a question mark over Rich & Gardiner too. Would think Madden & Payne are the obvious choices there if need be.

On another note, I'm starting to get a little worried about Cockatoo. Really thought he'd be a best 22 lock for us this year, but he seems to have fallen well down the pecking order now.

They would be my changes too. Is Payne injured?

Expected Cockatoo to hold a spot and be given a long run this year. Could still improve a lot next year. What’s his contract like?

Yeah fair call, I just don’t think he is doing anywhere near enough demand a spot in the one like the other boys!
The idea you have for Payne, is that similar to what Harry Himmelberg is doing this year? I have watched bugger all giants games but I saw he had 37 touches yesterday!

Himmelberg has played the last few games as a true loose man in defense, similar to Rich/Coleman for us. The difference is that he's both a very good kick and a very good height and mark, so the Giants are able to stay tall in defense while also maintaining rebounding ability.

I didn't realize how good a field kick he was until he started playing back.
This is a great move by McVeigh and for Himmelberg as well.

I reckon we will see Cal back for Zorks. I love getting games into the kids, but you can't play too many sub-50 game players at once. Dev, Noah and Kiddy all in that bracket at the moment. Adding a 4th might just be a little too compromising...

I think Terry on Oliver and Jerry on Langdon.
They will tag Neale. So Lyons needs a big game. Run Rayner in the centre more.
Otherwise Dev on Oliver although needs to run tighter then he did at Freo.
Against the Demons you need to go in hard why I say the Berry brothers.

Hipwood on Lever and get him to run out of space. Hippy still finding his feet so again sacrifice his game.
Need to play Bailey forward 90% of the game if the demons do have a weakness is small forwards.
So him, Charlie and Linc be a problem for them

Payne in for Dizzy.. Not sure we can play Dizzy against the demons if not 100%
Part of me like the 2 rucks although we probably need the run. Maybe medi sub again

Totally agree. I don't think Kiddy is in the category of getting games into youth. He's easily best 22 IMO.

He has been great, but he had a Harris Andrews running over the ball moment against the Saints that ended up a goal to them, had me tearing my hair out in the crowd.

But being human, doesn’t mean it doesn’t piss you off in the heat of the moment.
I am sure Fages would have got a bit heated after the incident as well. Especially when it led directly to a goal.
I love Kiddy though, one of my favourites.

He's definitely best 22. Best 15 even. He's not "games into youth" at all. But he still is inexperienced, and I expect some of his off-the-ball work, positioning, knowing where his team mates are to improve after he hits that 50 game mark. Still don't want too many sub-50 game players in the line-up at once.
