Well we'll clearly have to agree to disagree on Dunn, and for the record other than the term "champion", "was in All- Australian contention" is the most loosely bandied around phrase in football so I rarely give much credence to it. Dunn is average at best and always has been, and it could only be sheer desperation at this stage that is making Magpie fans think otherwise. Not to mention he's pushing 30. As for moving Howe or Reid forward, there is nothing to say we cant try it, I just don't think it will work week to week and/or clearly isn't the answer long term and will only hinder our backline, hence why I provided another alternative as to what we can do such as replacing White with Cox and moving Moore up the ground.

Dunn is pushing 30-in other words he is 29. Reiwoldt is 34-should the Saints be playing such an old hack? You say Cox is the answer yet Mason has failed to hold anything kicked in his direction this year. Of course he can regain confidence and start clunking a few but I think your option is far more of a "Hail Mary" move than shifting a proven good contested mark in Reid to the forward line and filling his defensive role with an experienced defender.

I don't know why there is such angst against Smith. He is travelling better than a lot of his team mates,
He is averaging 19 possessions, 4 contested possessions; 0 turnovers resulting in goals (every other player in back 6 has a minimum of 2); 7 marks; 3 tackles and 3 rebound 50's per game and his direct opponents have kicked 2 goals on him.

I'm not sure how accurate that turnover stat is.

There was a clear turnover in the goal-square on the weekend, and I recall one in another game this year where he switched it across half back straight to a Swans player. It directly resulted in either a goal (or perhaps it was a shot on goal which maybe missed).

I think there has been a few other times so far he has buckled under some pressure.

He strikes me as a very clean and efficient user of the ball when we are up and running, but I don't think he has developed composure yet under pressure.

I think he is a nice player and would be really good in a strong team. He has a beautiful long kick and an ability to win the ball. I reckon with experience he could be a damaging player...I'm thinking Matthew Boyd type.

Right now though, we are not a good team, and he gets exploited a bit.

We have guys who played in the VFL on Saturday who simply should be in the seniors, e.g. Schazza. Enough with waiting and hoping he is ready, he needs to play senior footy, and lots of it. There will be games when he goes missing, and calls to drop him back, but if we aren't playing finals then we must persist. He is a quality footballer.

JDG and Wells go without saying.

Can we find a place for Dunn? He is a hardened and serviceable AFL footballer, and an onfield leader. We need him in the team, although our defence is performing well - comparatively.

Daicos will debut this year, probably soon. He makes plays and when he gets the ball, something good happens. He's going alright for an 18 year old kid.:)

The players to make way include Crisp, Smith, Blair...and I've no idea who else and how to rearrange the deck chairs. I usually argue for consistency in the side from week to week, to build chemistry. But the latter isn't happening and we are shooting ourselves in the foot with this much quality running around in the twos.

This is pretty much it in a nutshell

Out Crisp Smith Blair Ramsay etc
In JDG Wells Dunn Shaz Daicos Mayne and maybe Phillips gets another chance

Cox on call to replace Moore or White if they dont lift

Not sure the exact combination of changes this week but this should be target state in the next few weeks. As for this week it should be three changes with Dunn and Wells the two definite ins and Crisp and Smith two of the deffinite outs. Perhaps Mayne (or Daicos if they want to take a punt) for Blair the other change

You can't say JDG is out for weeks after he gets over the hand for disciplinary reasons and then rush him back when you lose.
If Wells comes up well after playing VFL then bring him in. Phillips presumably comes back after being a late withdrawal. Moore needs to go back and get some touch and confidence. Unfortunately there isn't anyone good enough to play seniors in his place but we need to get him in the right frame of mind and being ordinary at senior level won't achieve that.

In: Wells, Phillips, Cox,
Out: Blair, Smith, Moore.

Unfortunately we can't do a lot more with this list. It just isn't talented enough. Until White, Blair, Greenwood and Crisp can't get a game because there are considerably better players ahead of them we are also rans or worse.

Why isn't anyone mentioning Rupert Wills?

He might need another game in the VFL to get his fitness up but after that he comes in and he stays in. Tackling and clearance machine.

He plays instead of Phillips coming back in. I am not a massive fan Phillips as well to be honest. I don't give a crap how many touches he averages.

He isn't a great user of the ball and we have a lot of mids that do what he does but we don't have many guys who tackle after tackle.

I've had a slight change in mind of the changes for ANZAC Day. These four changes are a must.

In: Wells, Wills, Mayne and Dunn
Out: Crisp, Blair, Moore and Smith

We don't put Reid or Howe up forward, that would be really silly. They are backmen, that's where they need to stay and we need them there. Dunn has proven himself kicking goals. I think he will do good up forward but I would much rather him playing Smiths role.

I would go with a forward line like this

Sidebottom -White- Hoskin Elliot
Elliot- Mayne- Fasolo

I wish but I don't think Scharenberg will be brought in for Ramsey. Ramsey will probably get one more chance and that is due to being out for a while and his pace. I can understand that but if those four ins don't all play this week and those four outs don't all go out, I will be shattered.

There has to be changes to this team and its minimum four. I know people don't want to make a lot of changes but it has to be done. Crisp, Blair, Moore and Smith simply do not deserve to play on Anzac Day. You just cannot play like that and expect to get a game with pretty much the whole list being available for selection.

Never thought I would want Dunn getting a game for us. That's how low this club has sunk so quickly. Bloody Jordan Russell and Simon Buckley would be getting a game in our backline.

You should get done for attempted man slaughter, as I almost just choked on my own vomit.

Out

Jack "Potato" Crisp
Josh Smith
Jackson Ramsay
Jarryd Blair

In

Daniel Wells
Lynden Dunn
Josh Daicos
Tom Phillips (Should never have been omitted)

Dunn goes back to help Reid.
Howe goes forward to help Moore.

Just sit back and salivate over this forward line for a second.....

FF: Fasolo Moore Daicos
HF: Elliot Howe Sidebottom

Cox needs to come in to take the best defender, he might not be the best player but he relieves Grundy in the ruck and at the very least is a target who can bring the ball to the ground for players like Elliot, Fasolo, Varcoe ect to crumb.

I've had enough of Ramsey, he needs a good spell in the two's. He's coming off an ACL so he needs to get back up to the speed of things, he gets caught holding the ball way too much so he is clearly a step behind at the moment. Josh Smith is also lucky that Scharenberg isn't ready yet. We should drop both this week to be honest, play Scharenberg and play Varcoe down back if we need to.

IN:
Cox, Wells, Scharenberg, Phillips

OUT:
White, Ramsey, Smith, BLAIR

EDIT: i forgot about Blair, time to go Blair you're done. Bring in Phillips who wasn't a bad outlet for us, yes his disposal was hit and miss but he actually found the ball and was fumbly like more than half of our players.

I like this.
And i would keep an open mind position wise with Reid and Howe.
Throw one of them forward, either/or at different times.

Can we please stop saying Phillips was omitted.

He was a late withdrawal due to illness. Was named in the selected side.

Was away this weekend so didn't see the AFL game and only a small part of the VFL game, but of what I saw Daicos is just about second on the list behind Pendles in terms of class. He's got that time thing that so many don't, and I'd love to give him the opportunity to see whether he can bring that to the top level yet.

For mine, Dunn comes in and we send Reid forward to help Darcy, we need to try something!
I'd give Daicos a taste of senior footy, bring him in this week as he can't do any worse than Blair.
Out goes smith, has not done enough this year and lacks real composure when the heat is on, get scharenberg in there

Apologies... Was just going off the AFL app.

I like Howe forward instead of Reid....... One of the biggest issues we have is keeping it in our forward line and avoiding the quick opposition goal in transition. Reid for me is starting to look a bit passed it and has slowed significantly. He is also average once the ball hits the ground.

If I had my choice, i'd clone Howe a few times and play him forward and back but unfortunately, that's probably not an option in our life time.

Not sure anybody is seriously suggesting he be rushed back. Although hed be handy...
He's being out actually hampers Moore always looking for Moore when he's got the ball fwd or around center having said that ,word is he was never gonna fess up until he got real heat from some senior players and then still didn't want to ,the ill never let you down muppet must serve his full suspension.

This side is finally injury free, so i really dont think mass changes is what is needed. Some players just need more games to get back to speed.

I would definitely bring back wells, and i would pull the trigger with Dunn to allow Reid forward.

I know it hurts us down Back, but we are just going to keep losing unless we try something more offensive.

Phillips will also come into contention.

Blair goed straight back out, and ive lost a bit of patience with Josh Smith.

Id leave Ramsay because the Bombers have dangerous small forwards and Ramsay is atleast playing tight defensively.

I think id ultimately do:

In: Dunn, Wells, Phillips
Out: Blair, Smith, Crisp

That makes us look a lot better on paper. I reckon we could get away with playing Reid forward without bringing Dunn in, because we could just swing he or Moore back in case of emergency.
These ins and outs sound great.

Unfortunately I've lost confidence in the match committee, so I don't think we'll see them :(

Agree it seems Reid has slowed down and whilst being an awesome defender still, probably is not as creative as he has been in the past. Would rather throw Howe forward. Goldsack is perfectly capable of covering for Howes absence in defence.

I know they won't but geez they would be tempted to say stuff it we will bring Degoey back for before he has served his time.

Bit hard for Moore to do any worse.

Wish players would have kicked it to Moore instead of Blair on the weekend.

Blair did an awesome job of playing decoy forward, often dragging two defenders with him. Mathematically that means there must have been a loose Collingwood player somewhere else!!!. Unfortunately the Collingwood players didnt get the memo....they kicked it to him anyway!!!!
