His article in the paper this morning on how Port can "bounce back" is beyond disappointing.

I saw it and thought, this should be good. Chris is a straight shooter.

Unfortunately he has been Koched up.

He avoided any chance to set expectations for next year or accountability for this year like a politician. And made poor excuses for our top 8 record.

What is the internal expectation for next season?

"We expect a response from the group. We certainly believe we have the ability to turn 2022 around and perform strongly in 2023".

It's not even make finals now. Just "perform strongly".

ET, you are being extremely polite. Davies responses were absolute garbage.

It really worries me this disconnect between the leaders within the club and reality.

They sold us a premiership contending lie, and they set high expectations but then no-ones ever been held to account for failing to meet them.

Now they live within this delusional state that it is only injuries and a few close losses that were our issue. Continuing to perpetuate the premiership contending myth, ignoring the stale, stagnant reality of our mid table rut under Ken, and the aberrations that were 2020 and 2021 due to covid.

We were completely un-competitive against the best teams this year (2-9 Vs top 8), we got blown out of the water in large patches by many. Fruitless comebacks mean nothing.

We have serious gameplan deficiencies that show us being extremely ineffectual for the amount of ball we have, the disconnect between mid to forward is huge and our forward line in general is really poor in comparison to some of the best sides.

We also have massive issues personnel wise. A makeshift Finlayson/Dixon combo is not a solution. Lycett is not an improvement. We have Pasini recovering from a knee and still a while off combined by some real issues in those key defender posts. On top of that we're lacking for small forwards and don't have the midfield depth we will need for a flag.

The club needs to own up to the shitshow that is the state of our gameplan and our extremely shallow list, hold those responsible to account and stop selling a myth that we'll be able to magically bounce back and win a flag next year. It is FLAG or bust next year with Hinkley and it isn't a realistic goal for this side, so the club needs to show some gumption, make the long term changes required, communicate the reality, and TRADE AND DRAFT FOR THE LONG TERM!!!! Not short term sugar hits.

The worst part for me is we've fallen behind so many sides (ignoring pure ladder positions). Sydney, Fremantle and Carlton all clearly have overtaken us. Melbourne are already well ahead of us. Geelong should fall away soon, but then again who knows with their ceiling-less salary cap. Then you have Collingwood who are still questionable for '23 but certainly looking to go past us, and at best we're in a mid pack crunch with the Suns, Dogs, Tigers and Saints.

Yeah but we had to play Geelong and Melbourne twice!!

Never mind the fact that in order to achieve our stated goals we would likely have had to beat them both.

Trained by Dustin Drew, Max Power, which has drawn Box 1 in Race 1 at 6.35pm, is raced by The Future Syndicate, which includes Port coach Ken Hinkley and reigning Brownlow Medallist Ollie Wines.

Also involved in the ownership group are current players Darcy Byrne-Jones and Tom Clurey, former players Tom Rockliff and John Butcher and General Manager Chris Davies.

shrugs

If you are not part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem.

My favourite line from that Davies interview was where he said because of injuries to the forward line they didn't put Rozee into the midfield until the 2nd half of the Carlton game.

They had a full strength list of small forwards in round 1 but played Rozee in the forward line. In round 2 they elected to play Mead as the sub rather than the forward line which meant they had to pick between Butters and Rozee playing forward - elected to go with Rozee. Round 3 they had Motlop, Powell-Pepper, Butters and McEntee all as small forwards - but they still elected to play Rozee in the forward line as well. Round 4 they bring Mead back into the side and had him, Motlop and Powell-Pepper as three small forwards with Butters also rotating through there. They still elected to keep Rozee in the forward line. Even in the first half of round 5 they had Robbie, Motlop and Powell-Pepper in the forward line but still for some reason played Rozee as a small forward.

It was only in this game when they were 0-4 and nearly 50 points down to Carlton that they decided to give Connor a run in the middle.

It was not injuries that kept Rozee in the forward line - it was their own ineptitude. If the plan was to play Rozee in midfield they wouldn't have kept him in the forward line when the team was near full strength in the forward line to start the season. And the only reason he was put into the midfield was because against Carlton the midfield couldn't have played any worse in the 1st half - and when you're 0-4 and 50 points down you don't exactly have anything to lose.

The revision of history to suit their own post script narrative is as startling as it is concerning. Koch, Richo, CD and Hinkley are all "yes" men blowing smoke up their own backsides thinking how great they are because the team didn't capitulate after 0-5 and instead only missed finals by 2 games. What a standard to live up to.

Davies quickly going from Summer of George to Burt Peterson in the eye of this board.

I still don't know what he has control over within the football department (there are clearly personnel decisions where he can, at best, provide advice to the board or executive).

But if Davies is Burt Peterson then Hinkley and Koch are Freddie Rumsen's piss soaked trousers. They remain our biggest and most pressing concern.

The review is complete and they'll be switching from International Roast to Nescafe Blend 43 in the coaches meeting room.
Will never happen. Good clubs don't change coffee suppliers. Especially not in the off-season. Chasing greatness comes from sticking to the stability of International Roast. Mind you we will conduct a thorough review of all suppliers, every single one to see if change needs to be made, but International Roast isn't going anywhere.

Lol....as if they even did a review.

Honestly, in a way I'd almost be happier if they didn't. We all know the outcome of any internal review would be "we're going to put more support in the box around Kenny", and a decade on its abundantly clear this shyster deserves no more of that.
Hang him out to dry.

Yeh we're just a small battling club that can't afford Nespresso.

A double espresso gives us the best chance of success.
