Well, juddy had his best game since 2007 and was the second best player in the match being edged out by Mumford.

I'm sure those with short attention spans would agree with me that this one game vindicates all the accolades he has received from 2008 to 2010. ;)

It helps to play in the best team in the league which has a well recognised team ethos that enforces things like shepparding. Not to mention not being the no.1 ball winner (contested balls/clearances) in your side, actually Pendles is probably after Ball/Swan/Wellingham in that regard. His value is as the final link in the chain through the middle, a job Judd used to play with much greater effect

He is the top 5 players in the league for average contested possessions and equal with Ball and Collingwood. Second for clearances behind Swan.

Top 5 Contested Possessions (Pro-stats)

  1. Priddis
  2. Kennedy
  3. Judd
  4. Murphy
  5. Ball
  6. Pendels
Top 5 Clearances

  1. Cotchin
  2. Judd
  3. Mitchell
  4. Boyd
  5. Swan
I think you understimate your midfield a bit. It may not be as deep as Collingoowd but you have four players who average over four clearances a game, while Pies have three. You have five players who average 10 or more contested possessions while the Pies have seven.

The addition of Curnow has made a huge difference. I was livid Hawks let him go as I desperately wanted him. It means Gibbs has been allowed to play off half back. But if you play Gibbs more in the midfield you can match Pies there. Actually Collingwood had 33 to your 32 clearances in the game you played against them in RD3.

I still rate his best game at Carlton being the elimination final last year. His 3rd quarter was something i haven't seen from any player in the AFL for quite some time considering the stakes. He was inches away from single handedly winning a final.

Re: Chris Judda$

Your recruiting staff deserve a bonus for getting Curnow. Another one who has improved your midfield is Ellard.

Both are remarkable stories.

Ellard was drafted onto the rookie list at the end of 2007 and managed 1 game in 2008 vs the Eagles at Subiaco. Didn't play again for the season. Did well as mostly a small forward in the VFL.

Dominated in the VFL the next season after moving to the midfield, winning the Bullants B&F but couldn't crack a senior game. Many thought he was a certainty to be delisted but his great form in the seconds meant he got another opportunity.

Again, he was clearly our best player in 2010 but many had lost any hope of the MC ever giving him a game, due to his physical limitations. But he managed just that in round 17, where in his second game he again played the Eagles out west. Was a solid player with excellent endeavour and managed to keep his spot for the rest of the season, with a best effort of 19 touches in the final.

Was rewarded with an elevation to the senior list and many thought he was a very good chance to play round 1, but suspension followed by excellent form from Curnow kept him out of the side. Once more, he was far too good at VFL level and was brought back into the side vs the Crows, where he had 25 touches and kicked 2 goals, including the 2nd last of the game which put us level with minutes to go.

Played again on the weekend and picked up 22 touches and an equal game high 10 tackles, breaking the record for most games in the 46 jumper by a Carlton player with 10. :thumbsu:

If he played for Collingwood would you still feel the same?

He is champion, simple as that.
He is a good player.
His disposal is too poor to be considered a 'champion' or 'one of the game's greats'.
Going for another team has nothing to do with it. Kicking is fundamental to the game FFS.
Try watching him without those rose-coloureds mate (you may have to turn the sound off on the TV too, if Walls and Lane are fapping) and look at his disposal.
Call me old-fashioned but hitting a target is a skill to be respected. Buckley used to hit a guy 80 metres away, on the run, either side of his body. The only thing Judd hits well is his missus every night.

Try watching him play without your black and white goggles on ...Judd is so far better than Buckley that it's not even funny...whilst Buckley certainly could kick the ball better (whilst receiving a handpass out in space ) Judd is a much much better footballer .

And if you want to compare their missus's ..then Judd is also daylight ahead of Mr's big nose Buckley ;)

Who has goggles?

And yet Paul Roos said this week that Judd has become a clearly better player at Carlton than he was at West Coast. Not as flashy, but clearly better.

Suppose we could take notice of the tired out old trolls instead.

How about you get your blue and white goggles off. Judd's game against Sydney was certainly a great one and easily BOG. But against what? An ordinary Sydney Midfield.

If you want to have a wank over a performance, just take a look at Buckley's performance in the 2002 GF against one of the greatest teams and greatest midfields in history, and in a game that really counts.

To say Judd is so far in front of Buckley that it is not funny when Judd's kicking skills are so much below Buckley's is a ridiculous statement.

Buckley was not an umpire's pet either.

I'm in my early 20's and the best players I've seen have been Hird & Kouta (IMO of course) Kouta was the reason I started following Carlton as a kid and I have to say Judd eclipses him by a fair margin and I reckon he's on par with Hird.

Judd & Ablett Jr will be remembered as the best players of their generation, I think.

you mean the game where he completely disappeared in the last quarter?

when voss ran wild and was instrumental in his teams victory?

buckley's norm smith is a punchline on the level of woewodin's brownlow

So you think Buckley is better than Judd?

I would not say better.

They are both champions. Impossible to say who is better. Buckley carried crap Collingwood sides for years. He almost carried a very ordinary team over the line against arguably the greatest team of all time in 2002.

He deserves far more respect than to be called a laughing stock in comparison to Judd, as the poster I was responding to had claimed.

You mean that game where everyone was so pissed off at him being awarded the Norm Smith that they changed the entire voting process so that such a blight never occurs again?

You blokes piss and moan about Judd over Swan last year, but no one at AFL house has changed the entire way the Brownlow is awarded like they did when FIGJAM was awarded a Norm Smith.

The AFL pretty much said "never again" when they reluctantly hung the medal on his neck.

What a load of tripe!!!!!!

Buckley was a clear BOG. He dominated for 3 quarters. Yes he had a quieter final term but after carrying what was a very ordinary team for 3 quarters, who could blame him. The Lions had several good players that day. We had 2, Buckley and Rocca.

I understand that it is difficult for Carlton supporters to acknowledge a Collingwood champion. But open your bloody eyes!!!!

Is it blight on the game that Judd will get 3 votes for last week when he only played one good half? He was pretty average in the first half.

As for the Swan comment. I could not give a toss about the Brownlow. It's an umpires award. Prestigious ? Yes. Significant? No. The 3 greatest players I have seen play in Leigh Mathews, Garry Ablett and Wayne Carey never won one. So IMO, it is irrelevant. Swan won every single other award going. From the players to the coaches award. IMO that is meaningful. If Carlton players win the next 20 Brownlows, I really could not give a toss.
