Note also that when Judd loses his temper or gets testy, it's not "showing leadership" or "mongrel" like if Luke Hodge does it. It's suddenly unsportsmanlike.

Faz with respect, I havent banged on about Judd losing his cool and getting into a push and shove with opposition players (I really dont care about that).
Of the above 3 incidents listed if any other opposition player did just one 9espicially the eye gouge it would be alot of calls from media commentators calling him unsportsmanlike.
It seems like to me that Judd gets a cushier ride from the media then Buckley (who rightly copped a barrage of criticism for the Ling incident) but there is no attention to the darker side of Judd's performance.

Please don't get confused about these terms.

When Luke Hodge shows his leadership, it involves more than just "flying the flag". Hodge is a vocal leader. He encourages his teammates, he settles them down, he sets up many of our structures and tells his teammates where they should be. He is like an on-field assistant coach.

When Hodge "shows some mongrel", it usually involves more than a bit of push and shove after the siren. It usually refers to the way he plays. His physicality, his appetite for the contest and his tendency to dish out as good as he gets.

Kudos to Juddy for showing a bit of mongrel, although it was fairly insignificant stuff. Everyone respects and admires the gentlemen of the game, but while it's good for a player's image, it's irrelevant to winning games of football. If the raw ability is the sane, I would much rather play with a team of "mongrels" who inflict a bit of pain on the opposition and soften them up. Give me Dermie over Kernahan and Voss over Hird & Buckley, any day of the week.

Im pretty certain that in about 5 years time, once Judd hangs up the boots, 99% of Carlton members will support the move to change the name from the Blues to the Carlton Judds FC...

Gun player, but the fan reaction is astounding... They'd honestly prefer to see Judd undeservedly get the 3 votes over a clearly BOG Yarren just to support their idolising...

More than 1 player in the team, and fortunately for the Judd followers, the other 21 Carlton players showed that last night...

As much as I admire the way Chris Judd Plays, last night was the third unsportsmanlike effort Ive seen from him over the past 3 years.
1. The Eye Gouge on the Brissie Player
2. The Elbow on Pav (how he didnt get suspended for that, Ill never know)
3. The shove into the fence- Its Unnecessary behaviour from anyone let alone from a champion of the game

1. He never eye-gouged a Brisbane player

2 and 3 occurred in games where the umpires completely lost control of the game by ignoring the off-the-ball treatment. They were disgraceful last night. It is very rarely that Judd loses his temper, and when he does it is warranted.

So hang on... are we a one-man team, or is he overrated? Man it gets confusing on here.

Yarran was tons better than Judd last night. As was Sam Fisher, probably Heath Scotland, and several others.

Gotta love that Juddy's "bad" games are 27 touches and good work around clearances.

Please show me where this has been said?

The voting on our board had Duigan, Yarran and Jamison a clear top 3. Get your hand of it champ....

Exactly.

If anything, I'm the opposite of what sobraz said.

I can't stand it when the media are pulling themselves to Judd and saying how he won us the game when there was another player who was clearly better on the night. Especially when it's Murphy!

Yep me too. Judd can be our best player but he simply just doesn't win the game for us. He got 1 touch in the second quarter which was our best quarter by far. Obviously we couldn't maintain it but still showed that we don't solely rely on Judd.

Also consider the attention Judd receives. This allows the likes of Murphy a little more latitude. I take this into high consideration when comparing our players.

Poor Juddy was heavily targeted all night by multiples. :( Not that Murph didn't have a tag mind you, but not to that extent.

3 - Gibbs
2 - Yarran
1 - Fisher

For mine anyway, if Judd polls 3 votes I'll laugh.

Was a somewhat tough night for votes, because I'm not sure anyone won for 4 quarters. Maybe Fisher did? Yarran looked a million dollars, and Duigan, Jamison and Scotland did good things at important times for the winners.

Judd was well held, shanked kicks, kicked 0.3, gave away multiple free kicks and started a melee. If he gets 3 votes, even I'll admit it's rigged! :)

He was OK, serviceable, good at times, but nowhere near BOG.

Yeah I understand that. Judd definitely does a phenomenal job considering how much attention he gets from the opposition. And I'm not for a second suggesting that Murphy > Judd.

It just annoys me that even on the rare occasions when Judd doesn't have a huge influence on the game, all you hear from the media is Judd this and Judd that.

Give some of the other guys some credit too. And Murphy is especially overlooked in my opinion.

Judd has a huge influence on games even when he is quiet by virtue of the fact the opposition invariably expend so many resources on him, but I take your point.

Duigan or Gibbs was BOG for mine.

Judd was not to be seen in the second quarter. First quarter was okay. Came into it well in the second half, but his kicking was again letting him down. It seems to be rare that he runs into goal and actually kicks straight... and there were a couple of clangers where he shanked it straight to a St Kilda player when it was getting tight. Just when you start to change your mind and think "maybe he still is the best" he goes and kicks the ball insanely poorly and you go "ah well".
