He needs to work on his disposal by foot. A lot of the time his poor disposal is due to being molested by a crowd of opposition defenders but it's no secret that his technique/kicking action is not up to scratch.

Still an elite extractor and clearance player who hunts the ball mercilessly and can single handedly lift the whole team, still in the top 3 players in the game IMO.

This is the biggest misconception about Judd. Judd rarely kicks unless he is in space, he prefers the backwards/sideways handball. His kicking is just middle of the road, and his kicking for goals is in the lower end of the competition.

Anyway, idiot trolls aside, his kicking is a worry but most every other part of his game is fine at the moment and he's a real classy workhorse. The thing I've been noticing, maybe not so much last week's game, but otherwise he usually does and goes out of his way to do whatever the team needs, lay crunching tackles (I think he's improved his defensive nature in general this year), attack if we're hanging back too much and working ourselves in to trouble, take the game on etc. Real on field leadership I guess you could say.

I'm excited to see him tomorrow night, though I probably agree so far this year Murphy is slightly ahead of him.

Last year, I like a lot of people was surprised he won the Brownlow. I thought his best was well past him, I'd forgotten how good his best was and I wouldn't have had him in my top 15.

Already this year I have seen more of him AND watched him more closely.

I (and I think many others) was wrong. He is an amazing footballer. His ability to get the ball and get it away to advantage is unrivalled in the game I think. Must have 3 BOGs already this year. Looks like he could be a shoo in for a third Brownlow and I now think ranks amongst the greats.

Anyone else changed opinion on Judd? He copped a lot last year.

My opinion is still the same, I think he's the best mid in the league. Would like to see him win a third Brownlow this year and be remembered as one of the all time hreats.

Carlton look twice the team with Judd in their midfield. He is such an inspiration to their younger players.

And he played a very big role in West Coasts two grand finals. Happy he got a premiership medal at the Eagles. I'm not too sure if he'll get one at Carlton.

He never had great kicking technique. Can't kick it around his body, spear punts, etc.. He was always an athlete first (one on the best we've seen play), and a footballer second.

Nope, view hasn't changed. In fact he is playing worse this year than last year, far worse imo.

Luckily for the Blues, Murphy is fit and firing though.

Judd had questionable disposal last year, this year it has gone from questionable to poor.

Apparently Goodes & Judd will be going head to head at some point tomorrow night - which is the sort of thing I should be able to tell my grandkids about in years to come. Two of the most electric players it's been my pleasure to watch and two of a very very small group of AFL players that can turn a game on its head single-handed.

It just seemed extremely over the top to state he had no football ability when obviously he's not just some player who can just run fast.
His extraction/clearance ability as well as his vision/decision making shows that. Not denying his athletic traits are what have made him what he is though, they are a big part of it.

While his overall impact will probably diminish as he gets slower, he will always have that inside ability and he's a true professional, he'll work as hard as he can to keep his body going as efficiently for as long as he can. We (Carlton) just have to not kill him with workloads he shouldn't have to shoulder alone but lately with our increased inside midfield game with the likes of Curnow and Murph stepping up, it is looking better.

Team dynamics at both West Coast and Carlton have demanded this from him.

To be able to make this transition puts him in the all time great category.

Only the games greatest players have been able to change roles mid career and continue to perform at elite level.

Players such as Leigh Matthews, Ted Whitten, Darryl Baldock and Alex Jesaulenko.

His record as it stands now, and what it could be by the time he is finished will support this.

An athlete first and footballer second is more like a Shane woewodin. Judd has just about the cleanest hands when charging into traffic, rarely fumbles going full tilt when collision is imminent. That is a skill all on it's own that only the elite on ballers put on show on a consistent basis. Hayes, black, Mitchell and a few others are likewise but Judd is the master. All you armchair afl/NFL/a league/NBA statistician keyboard warrior tossers who's sports following revolves around the Internet and who've never played the game will not understand what I'm on about. But REAL footy people will.

Like other Carlton supporters, I feel he is slightly down on last year's form which was exceptional (despite protestations). Murphy is ahead of Judd thus far this season in terms of output and efficiency. Judd has still been pretty decent though. He just sets pretty high standards to live up to.

The Brownlow has become a 2 year medal.

Ablett needed to dominate for 2 years.
Judd has dominated for many many years.
Buckley needed to dominate for years.

The list goes on.

Thing is Swan was just a good quality player pre 2010. He did dominate 2010 but so did Judd and Ablett.

Judd happened to win it. Big deal. Swan will win it this year because of the year he had previously where he earnt recognition as a top line player.

When you earn recognition as a top line player you get more votes. Judd earnt that recognition many many years ago. Swann has earnt it now and will earn more votes beacuse of it.

Any one who does not rate Judd really needs their head checked. It's fact he's a great of the league. He might not be the best supercoach player or stats player but I have not seen many players who can influence the result of a game as much as Judd does. This is the most important thing when judging a footballer. Not stats, not flashiness, not how exciting they are, it's how much they influence the game and how much they influence their team's result.

The influence Judd has on games is the difference between Swann of 2010 and himself although I think that Swann now has a far greater influence on games this year than last.

Either way Judd is a brilliant player and if you think otherwise i suggest you buy a TV and begin to use it.

It might appear so but he is still having a profound influence on games. The reason he is a little less sighted is because Curnow, Robinson, Ellard and Murphy are shouldering the load now. Which is a good thing.
